Making a NIC base

I believe I have grasp the concept behind making a nic base but would like the Guru’s to weigh in.

You mix vg/pg/nic together in your personal desired amount, in my case 70/30 and 12 mg nic. When you make your recipe you add your flavors and percentages, then add your nic base setting the percentage to the highest amount you can without getting an error message from the program. You still have to add small amounts of either vg or pg or nic to get to the desired levels of each because the flavoring affected the ratio and every recipe has a different percentage of flavoring .

If I have this right, I like the idea, must be part of that “voice of experience” I have always heard about. Also seems as if it would shorten the steeping time because the VG is already thinned out and the flavors can blend easier.

It seems like I would want to do this in a fairly sizable amount. What would be the reconditions for size and container type?

I do it the lazy way. I mix my nic base in a big bottle every couple weeks. Then I just squirt from that bottle into my smaller bottles, add flavorings, and I'm done. I like to keep the 100mg stuff well away from everyone, out as seldom as possible.

I make my mix 90% VG, 10% water (I don't use PG) at 15mg/ml nicotine strength (lately). So if I add my usual 5% or so flavoring, I'm vaping 14.25mg.

I keep a smaller bottle of 90% VG, 10% water, 36mg/ml to vape when I crave a cig. I vape that unflavored or with a little tobacco-ish flavoring, not enough to change the nic strength much at all.

I also make a 50/50 PG/VG mix at 25mg for my partner's vapes, and use it the same way. That usually gets 10% or so flavoring, so my partner vapes around 23.75mg/ml.

I used to use 15-20% flavoring. I mixed my bottle back then with extra nic to account for it. I'd mix it 24mg/ml, which comes out around 20mg with that much flavoring added later.

Like HIC I mix a fairly big bottle (whatever I have on hand that's empty - at the moment it's a 120ml blue glass bottle) up of 7mg nic, 70pg/30vg. Since I vape 6mg, whatever I put into it puts me in the ballpark! Makes it much, much faster to make up recipes!

I also keep a bigger bottle of WL nic 13mg premixed at 50/50 for friends :p (Mine is VT nic LOL)

What program are you using ejuice me up?

I do what HIC and Amanda do. I was using a 75/25 ratio at 13mg. Last batch was at 15mg. Next batch will be less vg and about 13mg, probably. He likes 15, I like 12-13mg.

I used to do this.. now.. I make a tiny bit of a recipe, see if I like it.. then go large.. the smallest I mix right now is 150ml..
Depending on what it is, and if it is earmarked for someone else.. or me, it saves me the time to do up 15ml to 30ml bottles..
Steep/age time is not a worry either.. My bottle gets below 2/3 empty.. I mix up 120ml and seed steep.. after a few days.. it turns out fantastic.. :)

Actually.. it might turn out a bit different, without adding the flavors to blend it all together.. I notice a difference.
Since I started doing mine like above, the results at what I am looking for are there.. normally in 3 days or less..

then again, maybe it is just me.. unless all components of the juice are together..
try it both ways and see.. best advice I can give..:)

I was little confused HIC by this:

My understanding was that 100 mg/ml nicotine = 10 % actual liquid nicotine, the other 90% percent of the volume of the liquid is VG/PG or a combination of both. At least in terms of what WL and other DIY shops sell. Have you found a place that sells the pure extracted nicotine by itself? I guess this would be 1000 mg/ml and would be very dangerous Thanks. I know Wiz Labs has some more potent stuff, but it is not for sale to the public/individuals last I checked.

not as precise as I expected from HIC:) but your right, this is not taste, I guess I've been making more work for myself by considering all things to be equal when they are not. I'm pretty sure I will not be able to detect the difference between 12 and 11.25 nic, but because I never tried before if I do I can follow Huckelberry and start at 13mg. I have played with 65/35 vs 70/30 and did not see a marked difference either, so if I end up 69/31 I'm still good. This does make mixing considerably easier. Also I like the idea about the craving bottle.

AmandaD, thanks I was at amazon last night thinking about getting some (pretty close) 120mil bottles, ordering today

Smoky Blue, good idea on the 2/3 empty, not sure I should be mixing 150mil recipes yet, but I'll get there

Mrscaryz, the program i use is called Juice Calculator

No, I don't use pure nic! I buy 100mg/ml nic in VG base. I mix that with additional VG and water. I call the result 'my nic base.' My nic base comes out around 15mg/ml nicotine.

I would never use pure nic; I don't have proper safety equipment for that, no desire to work with liquid that dangerous, and it would be a serious danger to others in the family. I keep the 100mg/ml (which is 10% nicotine, as you wrote) bottles I buy tucked far back in the freezer, in zip bags I drew skulls and crossbones on.

I'm at the other extreme; I rarely mix even 20ml of anything. Recipes in development live in 3ml bottles; most recipes I like go in 6-10ml bottles. I prefer to vape fresh-mixed, and I crave variety - so I mix numerous small batches of different things.

I was going to add a comment, but you have already eluded to it. Hell, Im gonna put my two cents in anyway...

Both ways to mix are great, but for different reasons. If you have a few recipies that you and the family and friends vape alot, I would go ahead and do my 120 to 240 ml batches and mix it all up at the same time, then pour into my 30 ml boston round glass dripper bottles that are all labeled and so everyone just comes into my office and grabs what they want to take with them. They return the bottles empty and when I see 4 to 6 or more of these empty bottles, I will make a new batch. None of my recipies need steeping (for the most part) , so they are always just ready to go. Sure, many taste even better after 2 or three days.

Now "on the other hand", I recently got the fever again to mix and experiment and have been learning the Flavor Art line of flavors ( "Wow" is what Ive learned recently). So, I am glad to have read this nice thread about the pre mixing of a Nic base to make my life easier as I make/test new flavors Ive not ever tried before.

Last night I mixed about 5 flavors while I was online in the Flavor Art thread. of course I started at maybe 2%, vaped, then 3% then vaped, 4% then vaped..etc, etc. I mixed these all up from scratch (didnt have a nic Base). I dont mind it, and Ive been doing it long enough to where its not a big deal, but after reading this, Im gonna make up a batch of pre mix nic base and should be much easier testing out my 30-40 or more new flavors to do quicker testing and recipie making.

Good thread. Thanks for all the input from everyone !!

This is exactly why I started mixing my base in large quantities.
It makes it so easy to try new things in small batches without having to get everything out and mix from scratch.

Man, that's some incredible service you provide! Lucky co-workers!
