Problems with wattage/resistance

I'm using a zenith v2 on my innokin cool fire v4 mod, the problem is no matter if the coil is high res or low res I always need to crank my battery up to 40 watts (maxed out) in order to get good vapor, now this isn't a huge problem aside from the fact that I thought for higher res coils you needed less power so surely there must be something going wrong, or something I'm doing wrong? Thanks people:)

Hey bud, welcome to VU :)

I am going to answer your question but first I am going to ask you a few questions as well...first off....how long have you been vaping? how long have you been rebuilding? do you have an ohm's meter? do you understand ohm's law? Do you have a firm grasp on at least the basics of battery safety and properties?

if the answer is not very long to the first two and no or not really to the second three please study the links below in careful detail and look this stuff up on youtube as well.

To answer your question in short and in basic as possible without understanding ohm's law...the answer is yes and no. The lower resistance the higher the demand in terms of amp drainage is needed with a lower voltage on your battery to achieve a desired wattage (power)

A higher resistance coil will need a greater voltage with a less drain in terms of amp drainage to achieve a desired wattage.

I am guessing without looking at your profile that you're fairly young (18-25ish) and you walked into a vape shop and said that you wanted to just blow as big of clouds as possible....I say this because it is a trend forming among the younger legal ages that want to just blow "big cloudz brah, cloudz for dayz," because it looks cool, even if you've never smoking anything for a second of your life. I won't tell you what to do, but I will tell you how to do it so you do it safely and don't harm you or those around you.

Ohm's law basically has four elements to it....You have Resistance (which is the ohms), you have voltage (which is the force of the current,) you have amperage (which is the speed at which the current is traveling or drained from your battery in our case,) and you have wattage ,(which is the actual amount of power being produced.) The wattage being produced, or in the case of vaping how much power we want our coils in our atomizers to generate, is achieved by the other three elements working in concert for a desired result.

The IMR/INR and LiPo batteries we use have three separate rattings ...There Mili Amp Hour rating (or mah) and their Continuous Amp Drain rating, and their Voltage Rating. Both types have a maximum voltage rating of 4.2 volts, that is the highest their voltage can be charged to. Their mah rating and continuous amp drain rating can vary by battery. In vaping you want a battery with the highest possible continuous amp drain rating, not the highest mah rating, to stay safe. As your battery drains, the voltage level drops, once it gets down to around 3.3 to 3.5 depending if you're using in a regulated device like the one you have or in just a straight mech they need to be recharged. How it works is think of the voltage level as the force the power is being pushed from the battery, the strength behind it....the mah rating as how much power it has to push, and the continuous drain rating as the speed it can be pushed at. If you have a 2000 mah battery with a continuous drain rating of 20 amps than that battery can be drained at the speed of one amp for 2 hours or as fast as 20 amps for about six minutes...that means the battery would be completely drained in six minutes and the voltage would fall down to zero...now if you let the voltage drop below 3 volts the battery is pretty much dead forever because you have to have some voltage for the battery to charge...you need the force to push the power out and to help the charger push the power back in during charging....so in reality you can drain that battery at a rate of 20 amps for about 5 minutes or 4 and a half befbeore it needs to be charged.

below I am going to include several links...the first two are an ohm's law calculator and the steam engine tool...the other four links are the threads we use as the "unofficial guide to advanced vaping." If you're already using RDA's then you need to know this stuff, it's kind of, well no, it just is important period. Please take the time to study them and vape safe bud....please.

Thank you man, and well kind of, I've smoked for 3 years and I picked up ecigs here and there but always ended up messing them up and going back to smoking, but I got this regulated mod and started getting into the builds etc, not just for the clouds but they are a rather big attraction to me, before this I had a cherry bomber clone but i had a feeling considering Im new that I'd probably blow half of my face off if I kept vaping with that so I'm leaving that one for a bit haha

But most of the stuff you just said I haven't heard properly about before or bothered to research so thanks for the explanation, though I may have to go over your comment a few times to get a proper understanding of what you said cos that seemed pretttty complicated hahaha, I'll make sure to check those links out though, yeah, I mean, I thought vlotage and wattage were the same but just different measurements so that's the type of newbie yer dealing with here I'm afraid haha

Cheers for the help though mate ill check those links out asap

Don't get me wrong man, I am really glad you asked the question and seriously hope you do. There's a lot of power running through and trapped in those little batteries we used and thankfully you're starting out with a regulated mod so you have some built in safeties and protection to help keep you safe as you learn....but proper battery safety and basic understanding of ohm's law is a must if you're using RDA's and not optional to learn if you feel like it,,,it's to not only avoid the problem you're having, but to keep everyone else safe as well.

I am seriously glad you decided to pick up vaping rather than smoking again and that it's just not the "big cloudz are cool brah" scenario :) But you gotta learn the basics of you're going to do it right and keep it safe...I know it sounds like a lot of big complicated stuff to learn but it's not...once you've got the basics down it's a lot of common sense and even I forget the ohm's law formula's without the help of the calculator these days...don't get me wrong, I know how to do the math, I just forget the actual formula's because it's so easy to plug and play the numbers and let the thing do it for me...but I still know what the numbers mean and that is paramount.

Anymore questions please don't hesitate to ask....there are no stupid questions, only stupid reasons for not asking them...and I wish you happy and safe vaping bud...take care :)

Since getting into proper ecigs rather than egos and such I've stopped smoking for 3 months, so yeah, not just for the clouds, but thanks man, just so much stuff to learn about vaping and I wouldn't have known where to start had it none been for the links you sent me, still trying to make sense of all the info that comes with vaping but I'll get there, for such a simple piece of technology there really is a lot to learn!
Again thanks bro, helped me out there:)

Dude I am glad I could help, that's all I wanted to do....I was just trying to stress a point to make sure it got across...a lot of times we'll get a "drive by" where a question will be asked and the OP doesn't come back for the answer so I get "one shot" (no bad pun intended) to stress a point....it will all fall into place and be simple before you know it and you'll be replacing me :)
