Hi Jimi,

One of the biggest challenges for home gardeners is knowing exactly what each plant needs. Without the right guidance, it’s easy to end up with stunted plants, disappointing yields, or harvests that don’t store well.

On today’s Harvest Club Journey, we are sharing three Plant-Specific Growing Guides—to take the guesswork out of gardening and help you enjoy thriving plants and abundant harvests.

Inside each one, you’ll discover:

🌱 The nutritional benefits of each plant
🌱 Exactly what it needs to thrive and produce for you
🌱 Simple ways to maximize nutrition and yield
🌱 Best practices for harvesting & storing
🌱 Common challenges (and how to solve them before they start)

“I’m on a 10 acre lifestyle block and about 2.75 acres is in beautiful Organic Gold kiwifruit. I’m using your resources and great videos to expand my home garden and to ensure soil health of our fruit trees and garden. Thanks for all the great goodness of knowledge you share 💚
— Hanna, Harvest Club member

There's a lot of insects that I don't see anymore, hmmmm maybe a side effect of GMOs
Could be. I have been seeing a lot of skinks which is good, they eat a lot of bugs like roaches, YEY. When I was laying out getting some sun, I'd see them running around on the deck. Have a couple of pics of them just laying down on the deck, I'd post them, but the pics are on my old phone. Least they don't eat the hummers!

Soil = life of the garden
Hey Jimi!

After pests, the #2 most asked question I get is… how do I know if my soil is healthy? Or how do I create healthy soil?

To many, soil just looks like dirt. But those in the know understand that soil holds the most life in the garden…

In fact, just one square meter of fertile soil can hold 1 BILLION organisms.

So, for this month your Urban Grower’s Guide tips will be focused on soil.

Marvel at the wonders of soil in this article: Healthy Soil Supports Life.

Ever heard of sheet mulching? This is a powerful tool for building fertile soil that helps your crops thrive. Demystify the process with this Sheet Mulching Infographic (and if you like what you see, there is a free Healthy Soil Hacked video series waiting for you on that page!).

P.S. Want to dig deeper into exactly what you need to do to create the perfect soil that supports your crops to thrive? Our most popular course, Growing Food the Basics, is a comprehensive online course covering the 7 key principles to easily growing your own food at home. Although it's a foundational course sited to all levels of gardeners, once you finish the course you'll know more about growing food in your yard than most people on the planet! Click here to learn more about Growing Food the Basics.

Have a fantastic week.

New video with Doc!

Hey Folks,
Hops is one of my favorite herbs for pain, sleep, nervous tension, and digestive health. Plus, they grow into a gorgeous wall of shade in the summer and die back in the winter, letting the sunlight in.
I sat down with Carolyn Thomas from Homesteading Family to show you exactly how to grow, harvest, and use hops at home.

You’ll see why this little plant is such a powerhouse.

As food prices continue to climb, preserving your garden harvest and farmer’s market haul might be on your mind this season. But what’s the best way to save and store all those veggies? And how much time and equipment is it going to take??
Too much of a good thing is a great problem to have… as long as you’re ready with a plan.
You have to take action fast or that precious harvest goes to waste. It would be so much better as pasta sauce later in the year. 😉
That’s why we're inviting you to a Masterclass with Stacey Murphy called 3 Strategies to Simplify Preserving and Storing the Harvest: Enjoy Fresh, Organic Vegetables & Herbs All Year Long.
--->>
Access the Masterclass now
You’ll discover how to think like a restaurant owner so that you can transform fresh food into a stocked kitchen without a lot of hard work.
This is not just about a bunch of canned tomatoes here. We’re talking ready-made meals with that summery burst of flavor and nutrition all year long.
In this Masterclass, you’ll learn the strategy Stacey’s dad taught her that made her a “flavor ninja.” You can transform basic garden ingredients into wildly delicious meals in minutes, too!
You’ll hear about Stacey’s complete Harvest into Meals preservation system including…
  • Garden fresh recipes
  • Meal planning
  • Food storage
  • Canning
  • Fermenting
  • Drying
  • Dehydrating
  • Pickling
When you have a preservation system, you can enjoy delicious, garden fresh meals even when it’s cold outside.
Preserving the harvest means you don't have to say goodbye to your favorites simply because the seasons change.
And it really can be simpler than you think.

Organic Producers Modernize, Implement Precision Irrigation With NRCS Assistance

Join NRCS Chief Aubrey J.D. Bettencourt as she “Dishes the Dirt” on how the agency is helping a small, family-operated farm in New Mexico grow fresh, organic produce. The agency provided financial and technical assistance to help Mathew Ladegaard modernize a nearby acequia to deliver scarce water resources via precision irrigation to his high tunnel crops. Container plants need THIS
Learn which growing medium will help your plants thrive
https://campaign-image.com/zohocampaigns/133052000002479297_zc_v64_last.png

Do you ever feel overwhelmed choosing what to grow your plants in, Jimi

Potting soil, garden soil, seed starting mix, potting mix… what’s the difference? And should you choose organic, natural, OMRI-listed, or something else entirely?

🤯 It can get confusing fast.

Here’s the secret: plants grown in containers aren’t connected to the earth’s soil. That means the growing medium you choose is everything—it determines whether your plants thrive or struggle.

That’s why we created the Container Growing Medium Guide.

Inside, you’ll learn:
🌱 Why potting mix beats soil for containers
🌱 What those confusing labels really mean
🌱 The key ingredients that naturally feed your plants

>>> Download your Container Growing Medium Guide now

With just a little clarity, you’ll shop with confidence and give your plants the nutrition they need to grow strong, healthy, and abundant.

Your thriving garden starts with what’s inside the pot—let’s make sure it’s the right stuff.

To your success,

🌱 The Grow Your Own Vegetables Team 🌱

P.S. The right container growing medium = healthier, happier plants. Don’t guess—get the guide.

As gardeners, we already know the joy of planting a seed and watching it grow into nourishing food. But imagine if the whole world recognized vegetables the way we do — not just as something to eat, but as powerful medicine.

Imagine a world where doctors prescribed vegetables…

Where knowing exactly which foods to eat and what to avoid was simple and clear… That’s the vision behind the 2025 Food Revolution Summit Docuseries: Healthy People, Healthy Planet, created by our friends at Food Revolution Network.

This eight-part series reveals how you can use the power of food to transform your health — and even help heal the planet.

Inside, you’ll hear from 45 of the world’s top doctors, scientists, and food experts, including:
  • Dean Ornish, MD — father of lifestyle medicine and best-selling author
  • Ayesha Sherzai, MD — neurologist and Alzheimer’s prevention expert
  • Michael Greger, MD — founder of NutritionFacts.org
  • David Perlmutter, MD — neurologist and six-time New York Times best-selling author
  • Brooke Goldner, MD — autoimmune disease reversal expert

From September 17 to 24, you’ll get the latest breakthroughs in nutrition and health — including insights on preventing disease, boosting energy, supporting mental health, and living longer.

We believe that growing your own vegetables is more than fuel — it’s a path to wellness, resilience, and connection. This docuseries brings that truth to life in a way that could change your health — or the health of someone you love.
