Aztec I think?
Or GP just being a boof head
Your GP is messing with you... FYI avocado in Spanish is aguacate. They have the good fats in them and even better when it's guacamole... BTW guacamole is a major food group along with tortilla chips and salsa...
I was looking for a pic of goph's garden hot sauce by word searching, and stumbled onto this conversation.
Yes, Aztec, specifically Nahuatl or Nahua in the Uto-Aztec language group. I shouldn't start the controversy of saying it is still spoken in some areas (though dying out), but it is.
Some say the original word "aguacatl" meant testicle, but others say a man's testicles started to be called aguacatl because of the shape of the avocado vis a vis the shape of the testicle, sort of the way people now will call a man's jewels his "huevos". Anyway the Spaniards morphed the word "aguacatl" into "aguacate", which then morphed into other forms.
Whatever the language around the marvelous avocado, I hope we will always have them. I agree with goph that guacamole (aguacate mōlli--pressed avocado) is a major food group with tortilla chips.
