Loving My Rayon

I stopped out at Sally Beauty Supply today (to get stared at as the only male in the store) and bought the smallest box of cellucotton rayon I could find...five hundred feet.

So far, I've rewicked five of my Kangers with the stuff. And wow! The flavor just pops.

However, I've got a few questions:

1) I've noticed you have to use a fair amount to get the proper draw, much more tightly packed than cotton or silica. Is that right or am I doing something wrong here?

2) On small coils (the Kanger featuring 1.5 mm or smaller), is there an easy way to draw the rayon through after freeing the old cotton or silica? I've been making the pointed end and pushing that through, but it takes a fair bit of twisting and failure and annoyance.

3) I've seen some reports of 100 ml lifespans for rayon, but don't believe it. How long should I reasonably expect this to last on a clear liquid that's gently flavored?

Thanks!

First off I use almost exclusively rayon. I have tried a lot off different cotton. organic Japanese ect. The flavour is ok I just cant stand that break in period. And the dry hit I get from cotton is way worse than that of rayon.

1- I Use a slight bit more rayon than cotton in the same coil. Not much thoe. Pretty sure the rayon shrinks more than the cotton when it gets saturated.

2- When I re-wick with rayon I often waste a lot off it trying to get that perfect diameter / piece. just the nature off how it comes out off the box. Wavy and kinda uneven. Whereas I Utilize the same technique make a point and pull it threw. Then work it back and forth until I find that perfect tension. Sounds like your trying to cram to much off it in there.

3- On a regular cotton build I would change it before the week was out. Kinda loses it umph.. The rayon dose seem to last longer . My coils get gunked up before I need to re-wick. But just out off safe practice I re-wick every week or so. But In the past have easily gone threw 100 ml off juice in a two week period on the same wick. At the extreme end have also noticed the rayon breaks apart inside the coil after extended periods off time. kinda weird. I would pull from both sides and it just falls apart in the middle. As per light flavourings or coill killing juice the rayon stays much cleaner brighter and for longer than cotton. That much I can confirm !

I love Rayon. I just recently got a tank that takes proprietary coils. I hate pre-made coils. I remember why, now, because the flavor takes so freakin' long to break in!!

When I wick, I twist up one end really good, like you said. I get it started, then simply pull through with tweezers.

ALWAYS, when wicking with rayon, make sure your hands are really clean, or wear gloves. It picks up oils from your skin very easily and, trust me, that's a bad bad tasting vape, LOL.

My wicks last at least a week, mainly vaping dessert flavors.

That Busardo video was what finally motivated me to stop over at Sally on my way home last night. I'd been thinking it for a while--silica just tastes meh and has so-so wicking capabilities.

The "health issues" with rayon don't bother me, knowing what goes on a cotton crop and onto the fibers to de-goo them for spinning.

And tweezers. Uh, yeah, so why didn't I think of that? Thanks!

Rayon is amazing when wicked correctly. Pull it through so it is tight, it should squeak slightly and you should feel almost a vibration as you pull it through. It is almost impossible to get it too tight in there but it will break in no matter how tight it is. Pull about a 1/5th or so away from the bunch as your tails and then cut the rest almost to the coil so it is almost like a bow tie. The tails need to be thin enough that you don't think it will work properly.

This is the basic idea. It seems crazy but it works like a champ

Way awesome, thanks!

Experimentation with my old Kanger T3S has turned a device I didn't much care for into one I now really love. I'm currently testing a wick to destruction and it's on its fifth tank, so it's already vaped over 10 ml.

It still tastes the same as when I loaded it up. With the stock cotton wick, it'd taste good for about 2.5 ml and then die at 5.

Yep! I've been a fan of rayon since I got to try it out last year. I've not tried any cotton, yet, that outperforms it.

Tank 6, 11 ml so far. Still tastes like new.

I'm about to re-wick ten bases just so I have them ready--and rewire and rewick a few others that I popped when dry burning (note to self: 8 watts is more than enough on 32 ga Kanthal...)

I hate to admit it, but I have about 100 T3S heads (and 65 older T3 heads for an 808/ego external oddball that I still use).

Time was, I used to rewick and rewire all at once with silica. Now with rewicking and only rarely rewiring, I've got 300' of Kanthal that should last me decades...

you are obviously not making Clapton coils that much kanthol would last me perhaps 6- 10 dual coils lol.

That box off rayon should last decades to. I know that I have not even made a dent in mine.:D

I'm barely allowed to use a coil jig, particularly after the Great Knife Accident of 2006. :)

But yep, that tank is on Tank #8, 16 ml, and still going strong on the original wicking. I'm a little dizzy from the nic, the tank hasn't even noticed.

At this rate, I can't even estimate how long this will last. A hundred ml is becoming much more likely.

Depends on what I'm vaping. I can get about 2 weeks on a wick.

I just had a brief experience with a pre-built Nautilus Clapton and I gotta say, my protanks with rayon blew them away in flavor. It was a fairly expensive experience to be so brief. Could've bought a whole box of rayon instead.

Unfortunately, rewicking Kanger T3S bases with rayon simply doesn't work that well, so it's back to silica there. It's almost impossible to get the amount correct and it either leaks immediately or starts to leak after a use or two.

Maybe I should try cotton in there.

My stepson gave me a 10' coil of the cellucotton rayon a few days ago and I finally got around to re-wicking my Crius with it.and all I can say is wow! This stuff is awesome! I think it tastes cleaner than the Japanese cotton I've been using, and it seems to wick better/faster as well. I might never use cotton again!
