Can anyone explain something to me? I dragged myself out last night (never easy for me to overcome my social anxiety) to hear some blues. Here is who I went to see, with my question below the video.
So they start out sounding pretty good to me. Now, they don't have a soundboard or anything just to be clear, just the amp setup. As the first set progressed, the guitarist/singer starts reaching down to the amp/monitor in front of him and making adjustments. By the time the first set ended he'd turned everything up (except his mic) to the point that the singing was completely muffled and unintelligible.
I walked out at the break. If the mix had remained the way it was at the start, or the way it sounded in the video above, I would have stayed for the whole performance but to me he screwed it all up so bad it wasn't worth listening to. So my question is WHY the f**k would you screw with the volumes during the performance? It was very disappointing, and ruined my mood for the rest of the evening. If there is singing, it should be the focus, not the instruments. Am I the only one that thinks that way? Why bury the vocals? I felt like saying "Guess what dude, I don't give a rat's ass what your guitar sounds like if I can't make out the vocal line."
