As someone who rarely watches movies, I need suggestions on good movies available on either Netflix or Amazon Prime. No rom-coms, nothing with overtly romantic themes. Not saying it can't contain romance, just that it shouldn't be a romantic movie.

You might find some ideas. If it's on TubiTV it's free:

Tubi is the largest free movie and TV streaming service in the US. We are not available in Europe due to changes in EU laws.

and you can pause the movie whenever you want.

There are so many movies I've never seen, so having it be a recent release doesn't ever matter to me, but we all have our preferences.

And the VU movies thread does have entries on recent releases too.

YouTube has a lot of movies for free too. I stumble onto them all the time.
