Hi Jimi, happy new year.

I escaped to Mexico. On Christmas eve morning I got an invitation from my friend I wrote about here:

https://vapingunderground.com/threads/what-are-you-cooking.529351/page-36#post-3325047

He found out another friend of ours, who lives in San Miguel de Allende, flew to Spain for Christmas. We could have the villa to ourselves, so he asked I could meet him at Austin airport for the 430pm flight. What a whirlwind, to pack, clean up my kitchen, shower, dress and drive to Austin in time for the flight, but I made it!

The home is staffed, all of them off for the holiday while their boss was gone, but his driver picked us up at Queretaro airport, about an hour from San Miguel, and the cook greeted us at the door. We tried to let them be on vacation as planned, and tipped them heavily for anything they did for us, and they did. Breakfast on the sideboard each morning, and the driver on call when we wanted to go into the centro.

We had a lot of fun. San Miguel is one of the most beautiful towns on earth, colorful, with art galleries, the crafts market, the topiary tree-sicles in front of the Parroquia, and the Parroquia itself magnificently lit up at night (which we had a view of from our terrace at the villa). I wish we could have stayed through New Years Eve, but that was all I could stand to be away from work, and even then I was crazy worried about it.

The reason I had to clean the kitchen was, I'd baked a gingerbread cake to take to Christmas dinner with the famdamily. I wrapped two pieces to take to the airport for us to snack on while waiting for our flight, and as often happens, the skinny guy across the hall got the rest of the cake. I'm about to post it in the cooking thread. I've done nothing else except work work work since I got home last night.

Hope everybody is still enjoying that holiday feeling. I'll be back to play the music game.

I'm sorry you're still feeling puny.

I remember quite a few years ago, a review of vape liquids for improving lung health. It may have been about DIY, but I wouldn't begin to know where to search to find the info again, other than a quick googly, which turned up this. It has all positive user reviews. That's all I know.

When I got home last night I had an awful dry cough and was sneezing my head off. I guess I picked up cooties on the plane, because I was fine in Mexico.

I had no remedies other than various teas, mint, ginger and so forth, so I made mint tea. I have a particular brand of black licorice candy I really like, which contains licorice extract and anise seed oil. I did a quick googly on that, to see if licorice is good for a cough, and I saw enough positive results that I didn't even feel the need to read any of them. I ate a few of these RJ's soft licorice and, boom, cough gone, sneezing over. It could have been the mint tea too, or the combination of both.

I've been drinkin tea heavily, even added some marshmallow root, what ever this is it's horrible. I am goin to mix up a menthol/minty/euculiptus vape juice today to try, might me easier to take. (yes I am a terrible speller)
Well the granny healer in me says to vape it with only a very little of those ingredients. They can be irritating too, though in adults they do tend to ease breathing. Of the old thing I was remembering, the one memory that comes through clearly is mullein.

Yes I like Mullein and it grows well here, every year or two I go foraging for wild herbs. Even the pine needle tea has a relieving effect.
Sounds like you had a great time on your trip ;)

I did have a great time. I was so busy reporting my own adventures and recipes earlier today, I didn't even ask if you and the other music players had a nice Christmas. I would love to know what mischief everybody got into while I was gone.
Hey @Bliss Doubt it sounds like you had a great time!

We spent Christmas in the home area since our grandson only lives 15 miles away. The Friday before Christmas we spent making close to 20 dozen tamales with my daughter's in-laws. Christmas Eve was spent eating some of those tamales at my daughter's in-laws and then midnight Mass. Christmas was back at my daughter's house where they cooked a full prime rib roast.

In case you didn't know, my daughter and her husband's parents both built big houses on the 20 acre farm her FIL owns outside of the town we live in, so they are neighbors to each other.

I'll have a word match after this, but for the moment I have to post this beautiful song, as uplifting as it was when it came out in the 80's or 90's, Djur Djura (she lives in Paris now). The title means "Heirs to the Future", so it's a New Years song from me to everybody. I hope you'll love it. It starts and moves along with the singer and her very young friends, and finishes in a heart swelling crescendo with the whole community sounding their ululations.

I'm editing to add just a little explanation. That beautiful flag represents the free man. It is a Berber flag, and belongs to no particular country. The Berbers are the aboriginal inhabitants of North Africa, some of sub-Saharan Africa and southern Europe. They are neither Arab nor muslim, at least not until the inevitable modern admixtures with invading governments and cultures, including foreign colonial governments in North Africa. Like the first nations of our own continent, the Sami of northern Europe, the Basque of Spain/France, the indigenous people everywhere, and like the Amish farmers of north and south America, the Berbers have struggled to maintain their identity, automony and traditional ways.

We all face challenges to our freedom, from rogue governments, from excessively powerful multinational corporations, from little dictators everywhere in our lives. I feel this flag shown in this version of the song, "Heirs to the Future", is for all of us, for people everywhere. It is a wonderful graphic showing the exhilaration of complete freedom. The blue is the ocean, the green for the mountains, yellow for the desert sand. Red is the color of resistance, and the color of life.
