What an exciting day! NOT!!! At least there wasn't a fire. Hopefully no lingering smoke smell.I have to log out. I'm exhausted.
Is it good to confess one's foibles?
I don't think I have ever, in all my years, lost track of something on the stove or in the oven, and nearly started a fire, but today I did. If I'd not taken the lid off the pan, maybe I could have avoided what happened next, smoke billowing up to the ceiling and throughout the apartment. I opened the back door to let the smoke out, but too late. The loud smoke alarm started to beep. I tried to reach it with my little step ladder, too low. So I walked the big ladder to underneath the alarm, still couldn't reach it, but from there I could reach it with a hammer. I tried to beat it to death, but it was too strong.
Then there was a knock at my door. A sweet neighbor in my building, "are you okay?". I explained. She's tall, climbed the ladder and turned off the blasted alarm. It was pretty humiliating because this had to happen on a day when my apartment was a total mess.
So in the restored blessed silence I started to open windows, but the damn alarm started beeping again. The sweet lady came back, climbed the ladder, took the alarm off the wall and turned it off again. I told her to leave it on the table in case it started to beep again.
So all day I've been alternating between opening windows, then closing them all and running the a/c, spraying orange oil spray all around. Thank heavens I'd just stripped the bed sheets for the laundry, or I'd be sleeping in cooked sheets tonight.
Oy, never get on the phone when you have something on the stove.
Congratulations Wolfie
