I got around to trying my NET tobacco extract- the Lane BCA blend from Pipes and Cigars. Mixed high at 25% (fairly standard for homemade extracts). What I didn't realize when I bought the tobacco was that Land BCA is an "aromatic" tobacco- meaning that it has other flavors added to it (this one has vanilla and whiskey aparently). Unfortunately, the extract seems to have pulled out all of the "casing" flavoring and very little of the tobacco. That being said, it does taste good- a nice rich vanilla! Just not quite what I hoped for. I'm pretty sure there is diacetyl in this too- i detect a familiar buttery note (don't forget, diacetyl is a naturally occuring compound as well). That said, I'm not going to be vaping this all day long. I do have some other tobaccos too I'm working on- got a smoky latakia and something called "stoved black virginia" that I'm hoping will give me a rich tobacco flavor.

Also, going to mix up a variation on "Miami Knife Fight", calling this one "São Paulo Switchblade Skirmish"!

4% ECX Rum
3% TFA Guava
2% TFA Kiwi
2% TFA Nectarine
1% TFA Papaya
1% TFA Key Lime

Think this one is going to be super amazing! Will update back here soon....

Next up on the ol mixing list! Will probably make these this weekend (or sooner hopefully, running out of juice! lol)

Just Capella Lychee (14%)

"Brony"
8% Capella Sweet Strawberry
2% FW Yellow Cake
1% FA Marzipan
1% FA Vanilla Bourbon
1% FA Vanilla Tahiti

"Eggnog Surprise"
10% Homemade Nutmeg Extract
2% FA Vienna Cream
1% FA Meringue
1% FA Vanilla Bourbon
1% ECX Rum

"Cardamom Coffee Torte"
1% FA Tiramisu
1% FA Espresso
0.5% FA Cardamom

it will work, don't think it won't.. but as you tinker with your flavoring, you will be able to pick things apart..
once you reach that level.. from there you can decide if to improve it for a main taste in your juice, or..
decide to make it a minor attraction..

for my version of a "ry4":

first, i pick the tastest tobacco as the main player..
then 2 more... for body and depth..
i have used the lightest, and the darkest and in between..
as you go thru the web hunting.. you might even see things like:

tobacco brown or tobacco light

a brown tobacco would be like the nutty 555, or even a heavy tobacco/cigar like tuscan reserve
a light would be your oryental or english tobacco..

then you need to think on your vanilla's or creams..
how heavy or light do you want it? there is nothing stopping you.. either way is right.. ;)
do you want it spicy, plain, vanilla-ish, barely noticeable, or heavy?

and your sweets..

i always pair my vanilla with a half dose of caramel/butterscotch.. or an equal of both..

so to look at an ry4 like this, my version:

tobaccos (going for a bold ry4)
1.5% fa burly (dark)
1% fa max (medium)
.75% fa shade (for the wrapping, light)

vanilla/cream (since my tobacco is bold.. heavy cream is out!)
.75% fa irish cream (oh yes, i went there! light vanilla with that tiny bit of mint)
.5% fa vanilla tahiti (for the nut! with cream..)

now at this point, you can decide if you want it an alcohol flavored ry4 or not..
if so, i have better luck with the bourbons and rums from tfa..

1% tfa bourbon
.5% tfa brandy (or go crazy and try .35% tfa orange brandy)

smoother or burnt sugar effect
.25% fa butterscotch

and your additives..

.25% mts vape wizard (to smooth, not smother!)
.5% apple cider vinegar (for dark tobaccos, blender, smoother and enhancer)

and finally.. if i want good luck, i might drop .25% fa black cherry

or.. if I want a tastier vanilla-ish.. i would go as far as 2-2.5% vanillin..

thats about it :)

10 likes for this post. Great insight on how to fill out a tobacco recipe, I think this will help me a lot. Also, great thread acidrain! I like seeing into other people's thought processes.

Cool! Yeah, I like seeing this kind of stuff, which is why I made this thread in the first place. I hope other mixers give the recipe notebook concept a try. Seeing all of the hits is great, but noting the failures along the way can be very helpful too in my opinion. :)

Woohoo!!! Smokey Blue- I've got a bunch more of the lesser known ECX tobaccos on the way, so I'll probably be picking your brain for ideas-
I'm kinda thinking a raspberry tobacco flavor might be good. Hmmmmmm........

mmmm you want to go light tobacco, a tiny bit of a medium..
some kind of cream, only .25% then depends on your rasp.. but pop it off with an apple :)

2-3% light
.75% medium
.15-.25% creamy
3% rasp
1% apple

maybe some type of spice, if your tobacco isnt carrying any..

Great, thanks again! I have the following on the way: (descriptions from ECX website, may or may not be accurate, we'll see!)

Changbaishan (Maplewood) Tobacco- offers a rich tobacco experience with an authentic wood taste and hints of cinnamon and cloves.

Honghe-- Modeled after China's single most popular brand of cigarettes, Honghe's tobacco flavor is complemented by the sweet smell of cloves to the point that it almost tastes like spiced Chai.

Huanghelou- Huanghelou has a flavor modeled after that of a popular Chinese brand of flue-cured tobacco cigarettes. With its full-bodied flavor and mild woody and floral aroma, Huanghelou offers a sweet tobacco flavor, sure to please your senses.

Zhongnanhai- Based on the taste of a brand of cigarettes popular in both China and Japan, Zhongnanhai's floral, herbal overtones and smooth, slightly earthy tobacco taste might well become your next favorite.

So, I'm thinking.....
3% NF Organic Raspberry
2% either Changbaishan or Honghe or a little of both
1% Huanghelou (or Yunyan, I like that one a lot!)
1% Vanilla of some sort, probably FA Tahity
.75% Black Fire (+ a smidge of DNB maybe)
.25% FA Marzipan or Meringue (I can't really handle creams, but these are ok and creamy)
1% apple- All I have in the apple dpt is Fuji apple which probaby won't work, but I do have ECX's pear which might be nice? It is a good "flavor binder" in my other recipes; I could also add a touch of FA black currant possibly, I know that would be tasty!)

I'll let you know when I get around to mixing that for sure!

let me know how you like..
i happen to have all those tobaccos, AR.. and i heard thru the juicevine.. ECX might have something new coming out soon..
i just do not know what it is.. but it is coming!!! :D haha!! :p can't wait!!

but that should give you a very nice mild tobacco-esk vape..
if you use the fiji, try it at .75% first.. ;) pear would be a good blender and give a bit of body.. keep that between .5 and 1% :)
def let me know how you like.. will try it myself once i get resorted.. omg can Wed ever hurry up and get here??? gesh!!!

Mixed up the Capella Lychee, "Brony", "Eggnog Surprise", and "Cardamom Coffee Torte" (though probably going to change the name to "Turkish Coffee", and 60 more ml's of "Stars Fell on Alabama" (cause I can't get enough of that one!). Everything on my list needs a few days of steeping, so filled my tank with the standalone Lychee this morning. 14% sounds like a lot of flavoring, but at this percentage it is perfect for me. Good stuff! It's a very realistic Lychee flavor and works just fine by itself. I've used it some of my tropical fruit mixes, but this one really shines on it's own!

Oh, my bad- it was formerly called "Super Honey Peach Tobacco". Thread is here. Not only is it my favorite recipe so far, I like this better than any vendor juice out there that I've tried. Cheers!

Thank you also for your historical wisdom in mixology! It really does people like me a huge favor and develops my mind's thought process in creating what I am aiming for.

Tried "Brony" and "Cardamom Coffee Torte/Turkish Coffee". They are not bad, but keeping in the "needs work" folder for now. Brony is a tasty creamy strawberry, but overall I would say its light on flavor. And it needs more cake I think! Cardamom Coffee Torte is a good combo, but a little boring so far. Needs something for added complexity. I could go a shade more sweet too. That espresso is so damn good, but it is bone dry. I like my coffee black, but I like my coffee vapes sligtly sweet- this is maybe half way there. Overall though, I think the concept is solid! Cardamom at 0.5% might dominate another mix, but espresso and tiramisu are insanely strong so that note balances.

I'm retaining my sample of "eggnog surprise" for at least a week until I sample it. Keep you posted!

Smoky- got my new flavors! After smelling everything, this is what I've settled on:

"Caprica Six" (Raspberry Rum Tobacco)
3% NF Organic Raspberry
2% ECX Changbaishan
1% ECX Yunyan
1% FA Vanilla Tahity
1% FA Jamaican Rum
1% FW Honeywood Tobacco
.5% INW DNB

That raspberry smells CRAZY good and realistic. And FA's rum- based on smell alone, it absolutely destroys ECX's version- I'm including it in lieu of the creams you mentioned, should help tie the raspberry to the tobacco. Can't wait to make this!

Mixed it! Going to try to hold out until the weekend to sample. It smells scrumptious!

Also, trying CAP Cinnamon Danish Swirl mix at 8% with the addition of 8% homemade cinnamon extract. Mmmmm

Well, of course I couldn't wait and dipped into my sample. It is....not quite ready yet. The raspberry has a slight perfumy edge, but I can see that it has diminished, even since I filled my tank last night. Tobaccos are good- I get a slight spice background, even a faint black tea note. The rum gives a hint of boozy caramel. This one is complex! It really is not fair to judge yet, berries and tobacco both require a minimum of one week steeping in my opinion but I can see it has promise! If anything I would say this needs a little more dark tobacco- (probably .5-.75 black fire). I do have ECX Captain too, and while I've been hesitant to use it so far (it has a chocolately note I don't care for the fragrance of), but it might be perfect here. Dunno! I will do a full writeup when this has time to settle a bit. 8/10 at this point- it's almost there!

The honeywood tobacco too absolutely has to steep before it looses it's mildly disgusting baby powder quality (after that though it is a fantastic sweetener for your lighter tobacco blends).

Update on "Caprica 6": This has now smoothed out nicely as I expected- the perfumy note has gone away which is nice. I will say the raspberry flavor in general seems a bit floral to begin with- if you despise floralness, you probably want to swap that flavor out with another berry or fruit. But I'm very pleased overall with this one! I have a couple of minor tweaks, next time I'm going to try:

Caprica Six v2
3% NF Organic Raspberry
1% FA Black Currant
2% ECX Changbaishan
1% ECX Yunyan
1% FA Vanilla Tahity
1% FA Jamaican Rum
1% FW Honeywood Tobacco
.5% ECX Captain
.5% INW DNB
.5% ECX Black Fire

Of course, now we're up to ten flavors, ack! No one will ever make this. If for some reason you DO happen to have these flavors and decide to make this- let me know. :)

Hi acidrain, I wonder if a mix of BlackFire and Latakia will make a substitute for INW DNB (can't get it from where I'm buying).
please share your thoughts on this.

Craison, I think that would work! DNB just adds a little smoky finish, so anything in that category should do the job. Let me know how it goes!

Getting back to doing some more experimenting finally! o_O Also, mixed up some of HIC's Dark and Stormy in the Coconut Grove, really looking forward to trying that one. Smells fantastic, spot on for the cocktail (one of my favorite drinks too).

Cherry Vanilla Cavendish
2% FA Vanilla Tahiti
1% ECX Captain
0.5% FA Black Cherry
0.5% DNB

Clove Tobacco V1
2% FW Clove
2% FA Vanilla Bourbon
2% Yunyan: 0.2ml
1% Changbaishan: 0.1ml
1% Huanghelou: 0.1ml

Colony Collapse Disorder
(Variation on Bee's Knees V1- this time, reduced green tea and honeysuckle, changed up the citrus with FA flavors substituting for the TFA, and added the bitter orange peel of FA Bergamot and a hint of floral FA Neroli)
4% TFA Green Tea
2% TFA Honey Suckle
2% Capella Sweet Tangerine
1% FA Lime Tahiti
1% FA Lemon Sicily
0.5% FA Bergamot
0.25% FA Neroli

Keep you guys posted on how these turn out!

Well, I haven't been very active here of late- been kind of relying on some of my go to recipes- but getting back on the horse tonight! Here's what I'm working on. Finally picked up some Inawera Cactus, so some experimentation is in order. Inawera Blueberry is new to me as well.

Cherry Vanilla Cavendish V2.0
3% FA Vanilla Tahiti
2% ECX Captain
2% FA Black Cherry
1% ECX Hongtashan
1% INW DNB

Prickly Pete (note- adapted from one of HIC's recipes, minus the grand marnier ingredients, adding strawberry and rum to make sort of a strawberry/cactus daiquiri)
10% CAP Sweet Strawberry
1% FA Rum
1% Inawera Cactus
1% FA Lime Cold Press
0.5% FA Lime Tahiti

Blueberry Vanilla Danish
3% Inawera Blueberry
3% Vanilla Tahiti
2% WL Vanillin
1% NF Organic Danish Pastry**

K-Ville
3% FA Fuji Apple
2% ECX Grape
1% FA Black Currant
1% INW Blueberry
1% TFA Grape Juice
1% WL Menthol

**Note: This is a weird flavor that settles into a clear and opaque white layer at the bottom of the bottle. It could be harmless, or it could be unsafe to vape and I have no way of knowing. This is not going to be an all day vape, more of a one off, just got impulsive and decided to try the flavor finally. I decanted off the opaque layer and just drew clear flavoring into my syringe. YMMV, it probably contains diacetyl too, its buttery pastry afterall. Damn does it smell good though.
