Good morning / afternoon. Looks like my Nautilus is out for delivery today. Other than going to check the mail I doubt I will step outside this house today.

Man, I had a bish of a time figuring out that mangled link, but ah..I see...

I've looked at that one, it's got good but mixed reviews...do ya think it's decent and can handle metals?

Pretty much all I'd use it for is modding vape gear...like my current project.
If it can handle a Hammond case, I'd be happy.
I know I didn't copy the link correctly,,,,my bad,,,,,
but its a wen,,,and wen aint bad,,,i was thinking about it myself as my dremel the brushes are very weak,,i would only use it for my vape gear, think it would probably do the job

Hmm. that's about $30-35 and seems to have good reviews.

It all seems a crapshoot whether ya get a good unit or not...
your right,,,,,alot of it has to do with the quality of the accessories to,and imo those bulk kits with all of these are lower quality

One thing I will say about that one......it is about 12 years old and has endured 3 years of ice carving plus all of the wee projects since.

Hmm, I can get the WEN for about $20 shipped free on Amazon...tempting. It's not something I'd use all the time, but when I did, I expect it to work.
TBH, I've gotten my $9 worth out of that cheap one I have, but modding that Chana is a bit beyond it.

Ironically, Mom is gonna put some cash in my bank so I can buy her something online...she wont do it herself.
We'll have to see how much she puts in there. ;-)

The quality is not an issue as most of my attachments are Dremel and/or Craftsman. Again, it was used to fine detail ice carvings....it was wet frequently and still runs as new.

the one you do decide on ,I recommend it be variable speed ,when you drill into stainless steel you want slower rpms and a lubricant

Sounds good. :)

I just hate having to buy anything more like that, but I spent the money on magnets and the Jwrap already, and it's only got one hole drilled.
Gotta do something eh?

True that. A cobalt bit is my best option, I think.

The Chana case is some sort of aluminum alloy, but harder than it seems.
Maybe they use a lot of Zinc? It drills out kinda grey dust...not the shinier stuff I'd expect.

I feel fortunate for my family farm. It's not just our sanctuary it could also be our compound.
Not that I'm a doomsdayer type but if shit hit the fan we'd back each other up as a whole.
Food, shelter and protection.

I Pray to God that those things would never need be but if so I do find some comfort in family unity.

That is what my last trip to CT looked like during "Snowmaggedon"
It's what helped me decide that I wanted to get my daughter an AWD car cause I got what I thought was going to be a crappy little suzuki econo-box as a rental. It had AWD and when put into low gear just went up all those hills in about a foot of snow inbetween cars that were sliding down the hill. Kept having 4x4's try to pass me only for me to dart between them and the stuck cars into the holes as soon as they were big enough for me to get through them. They quickly figured out that it was better to follow me and I soon had a string of like 5 or 6 SUV's trailing behind me.
Ended up getting my daughter a Mitsubishi Outlander Sport.

Ha, looking around for solution for my drilling woes..found this. Wish it wasn't an auction, as it's a beauty. Tools like that will last centuries. :)

Probably 80 years old or more and look that that...sure the chrome and red paint is gone, but the cast iron is just fine. Someone cared for that tool, as they should.

Now, THAT is a Goodell-Pratt Hand Drill.
Those handles are Cocobolo and it dates from the 1800s to about 1943.
What speed have you been running the rotary tool at and are you putting any oil on the spot you are trying to drill out?
You want low speeds for metal, and a little dab of machine oil. You could probably just use some olive oil. But go slow with light pressure. Problem with drilling metal is that everyone wants to go to fast.

You in the tropics now?

-11 with the wind chill right now.

And because of my son's oral sensory issues, I truly am afraid that one day we are going to get a call from school that he done this...

That would be unfortunate but still........... LOL!

Yeah, I did use some oil which helps, but not much..
I wish I could vary the speed, but it's an $9 el cheapo and only does "16,000rpm", in theory anyways. It has no torque.

Like this, but in red: http://www.harborfreight.com/80-piece-rotary-tool-kit-97626.html

You can literally grab the bit with a gloved hand and stop it. It's fine for sanding and grinding, but not for making holes in aluminum alloy.

And, the tricky bit is where I have to drill out the case screw holes.
If I miss or it skips at all, the mod is toast. Basically, it should have a drill press.

It's my own stupidity for thinking I could even do this with a $10 chinese dremel. :(
Fortunately, I'd thought to try one of the door holes first...so I can still use it just fine with the remaining screw.
