I wasn't going to say anything, since I said I wouldn't bother y'all with my opinions anymore, but this is something I've been wondering about -- my son is FATALLY allergic to coconut ANYTHING, and I've been concerned that VG from palm oil might bring on anaphylaxis -- but it's NOT from a coconut palm?

I was just doing some thinkin. Kanthal A1 has a density of 7.1g/cm^3 and 316SS is 7.9g/cm^3. If you had two coils, say 26g 3mm ID 8 wrap, one made of Kanthal one of 316SS, the kanthal coil would have less thermal mass therefor heat up faster.

Not by much but a little ~10%

Edit: At the same watts of heat output
This isn't true in my personal experience. I'm not an engineer, but there are way more variables in figuring that than density or mass alone. ss has a higher heat capacity than ka1, so would in theory react by temperature change to a greater degree, and also its lower resistance can play a role in the equation(as well as the change in resistance, depending on your mod). But, from just my personal experience building a lot, I haven't seen kanthal ramp faster than an equivalent build in SS. The opposite, really. A lot of the more complex ka1 builds I've done ramp slower (once again, my opinion) than the same build in ss by a considerable amount. Even if it did ramp slower, I'd still prefer it for lots of reasons though..

I just noticed, I'm less than the price of a carton of cigs away from having NOT spent $4k on cigarettes. :D :) :D :) :D

Woohoo!!! Awesome Andria. I'm in New Orleans so I haven't been on much. But, if you leave this thread I will need to start stalking you.
Ok, @chopdoc I just ate 2 creole tomatoes from Independence. Yep. Bought them in Houma yesterday. lol
Had an indescribable day yesterday. My father died when me and my sister were very young in 1975 (right after we relocated to Texas). I found his grave site on findagrave, and we went to Houma, we actually located it after walking almost the whole cemetery. It was a sad, but happy moment putting flowers on his "never" visited tomb. We both shed some tears and headed off to part 1 of the family reunion. Long story short, my mother never got over his sudden death and would never speak of family or my dad's death again so we were alienated from most of our relatives. When mom got sick and died, I went through her house and found old letters with addresses. Finally, after all these years we have met up with the aunts and cousins we had not seen in 40 years. Next year, me and sis are going to the grave and fix it up and paint it. :)
Haven't made it to Grand Isle yet - it's raining like crazy here! So chopdoc, I haven't been kicked off the island yet for mentioning your name. lol! I'm off to shower and head to Houma again for gumbo, fried fish, homemade pralines and more fun! Hope I can still fit on the plane after all this incredible food.

I just saw the radar for the whole SE region, and DAMN is it raining in LA, from Shreveport to NO -- stay safe, even if you can't stay dry! Doesn't it just fucking FIGURE that as soon as you left the Houston area, it would STOP raining there, and come to LA? :D Just cloudy here, don't see anything much on radar, but I'm kinda scared to let my kitty out; she wouldn't eat all day yesterday, and though she did eat about 3/4 of her "breakfast," that's still a ways from her usual snarfing-it-down-in-a-frenzy.... so I think we'll keep her in, in case she really is sick.

A few very nice people here convinced me last night that I shouldn't leave this thread (though I may start keeping some of my opinions to myself), so here I am. It's not like I was gonna leave VU... where would I go? ECF? Fuck that noise. :D And the horse they rode up on.

That is an interesting deck
The problem that I'm seeing from looking at it is...those holes are huge. So if you wick it like a boreas, you might have problems, because the airflow comes in right level with the floor of the deck...so you'd be hitting nothing but cotton, and a lot of it. Not your coils. Just from first glance though

Morning and GFYs. And those who don't like my opinions, GFY with a hairbrush. :)

Got my big box from ECX today -- shoulda seen me flying outta that bed at the crack of 11:15 when I heard the mailtruck. :)

Does anyone know, is there ANY place that offers both Molinberry and FA flavors? There are 2 more flavors I really really want, but I really hate the idea of making a 1 10ml-bottle order from anywhere, the shipping is so costly. Not that I don't have the money, because strangely enough, I do, but I'm just cheap that way, and it's my firm belief that wasting money is no way to STAY flush.

Andria

ETA: conversely -- are there any flavors from Molinberry other than Glamour Chocolate that really must be tried? I'm a big fan of their Glamour Choc, mostly because it's the only choc flavor I've been able to taste in a vape, so if there are any other real goodies, I'd like to try them.

And same for FA -- some of their BESTEST flavors? I want to order their Marzipan for one of the recipes that HIC posted recently, but FA isn't a brand that I normally use a real lot of, so I don't know which are their VERY best flavors.
Atta Gurl!! :):blowkiss:

I'm starting to think I may love the Merlin even more than my beloved Boreas. Half the volume means nothing when refilling is THIS easy. Not even the tiniest thing that could remotely pass for a leak, yet. LURV!

They are two very different attys and I love them both dearly - but - the Merlin is the perfect MTL for me - the one I've been searching for a long time.

I've never had a drop either and my stuff gets abused if I take it out the door.

Actually, you'd need to be a Physicist to really talk about specific heat capacity.

A higher specific heat capacity would require more heat to raise the temperature one unit than a lower one. Although that's not really relevant as we are using the material to produce the heat and not heating the metal with another source.

An interesting thought just occurred concerning thermal transfer through the Al2O3 layer.

Be back later.

You need to read the ENTIRE Boreas thread - the minutia on wire properties and electrical theory was jaw dropping for awhile there

I'm not really a technical person myself, at least not with physical stuff (computers are a horse of another color!)... but for my needs, I don't really need to be -- a single 9-wrap coil of 29ga kanthal works just great for my moderate style of vaping. But even that was a real revolution for me; I was never a "tool girl", and the idea of making my own coils flat-out terrified me at first -- I never thought I'd mess with "electrical stuff"! Most of the math stuff y'all post flies right over my head, and I just keep making the same coils I've made all along. :) Using the 3" vise that is MINE! :D

I'll get right on that....

But I like to keep it simple. SS has better flavor than kanthal imo. That's all I really care about 90% of the time

Well that was easy. The maths agree with your observation but not the reasons you stated. SS does heat up slower than Kanthal but because the oxide layer is much thinner it transfers that heat to the eliquid sooner. In complex builds this difference would be much more pronounced for several reasons; metal to metal, metal to liquid.

Interestingly this matters much more with very high Vg liquids because of its boiling point.
