Because the rest of the world might be telling you that you're fucked, or it's fucking you over in a bad way. At least someone cares enough to make sure you know you're loved. It might be mostly self love, as the one caring tells you to fuck yourself. But at least they cared enough to tell you to love yourself, someone gives a shit about you. The whole world isn't against you, someone else is in the same boat with you. Them telling you to fuck yourself proves that, they know how you feel "oh man it's all so terribly wrong, I've no friends, no one cares".

Surprise! Somebody thinks you're worth a fuck even if you have to fuck yourself. The most derogatory would be to tell you to unfuck yourself, because they're saying you're not worth even a self fuck. So, hearing Go Fuck Yourself is a positive thing indeed. Someone cares to remind you that at least you have got yourself, and possibly someone else that reminded you of that. A lot of us been in the same damn spot, feeling it was all there to put a boot in our face. Yeah? Well, Go Fuck Yourself! We love you too, hate us all you want, we don't care. If you do hate us though know we understand that as at least you're giving a shit. Our value is then self evident.

As well the idea is it's a bit of tough love. The call to go fuck yourself is meant to express you don't need to wallow in self pity. Get back up! You don't fail unless your surrender. Keep moving on to move on. We've all had this or similar fight as you're having. Do you see us wallowing? Sure we vent, then, we go on. Someone tells us to fuck ourselves otherwise, because they know where you are in life ... they got the T-shirt reading "Been there, done that." So, if someone else can make it through it, guess you got no room to complain, bend into it and bear on.

All in all, it is an expression of love ultimately. Everyone could easily totally ignore anything that anyone posted about something negative in life. We could all stay on topic strictly. Well, we're all human beings and being such means we're social, we desire helping naturally. We know love is the most powerful force in the 'verses. And so this summarizes GFY.

Exactly so. Part of it comes from British/English humour, where the older ladies gather at 4 PM and viciously roast one another. Each day they do this in the villages, each older lady showing up to take her "medicine" without fail, or if there is something wrong the others go to her.

"Maude dear, you know we don't play Scrabble until after scones," one lady says to another.
"Percy love, go fuck yourself, last week played Scrabble before scones. I swear senility has set in on this old bat," the other lady fires back.

One expression the Brits are keen on too is "get bent". I think anyone with half an adult mind can understand the implications of "getting bent". And the expression "go fuck yourself' is somewhat along that same vein. But yes, it's about knowing you can say it to someone who will remain a friend, and you can remain friends with those who tell you that.

It's the same as the old ladies going for their "medicine" each evening. It helps keep everyone humble, honest, aware we're all equals, as well as adding a touch of love. This may be a rather mature and difficult concept for some to comprehend. Others seem to instantly "get it". Others still comprehend but prefer not being involved and that's fine too as if anyone needs my permission. The point being while here we form a family type of community and the expression "go fuck yourself" takes lose of its sharp edge and has its barb replaced with love.

I don't think anyone has told the ECF mods to go fuck themselves. It wouldn't resonate properly in doing so, even if someone did. Instead I think a good portion of the mods on ECF deserve an "unfuck yourself". If something is undone it denotes lack of care to do something. So, if you're told to unfuck yourself you're being told we're not going care about you any more. You're not worth our effort at that point to let you know, you even have self love as an option. Why should we bother with offering any love to some of those ECF mods? It's clear they offer none in return.

Basic human compassion is in itself love. And this is one way it can be expressed. There are surely many other ways of expressing it. This way seems to work here and in the text, people either "get it" or don't, and those who don't you can figure you don't want to associate with. It is a helpful means of being a filter like that as well as an expression of compassion, love, tough love. And yes, at one time I used a lot of stuff we don't discuss here. How else could I ever come up with something like this? There are so many variegations of "go fuck yourself" it's difficult to pin them all down.

It depends who you’re friends with there, imho. If you know some people, it’s fine. If you’re a newb, not so much.

Quite true but rather err upon, "well she/he looked under 18" than just figure older eyes are seeing "younger folks" then wind up in a little box. And yes, there's times I look at that porn stuff. Sometimes it is difficult to avoid it. Take for example a totally innocent search calling up accidental dolphin anal sex and the video of the lady taking dolphin sperm up the bum. You never know when searching for say "pictures of plates of beans" will turn stuff like that up.

making a quilt would be the bet thing ever.

I'm currently taking in a gorgeous pair of winter-white (cream-colored) corduroys; they were just a smidge too big for me before I lost the weight, but now that I'm at 131-132 lbs (it varies between those, for the last several weeks), they really look like clown pants. And they're much too nice to give to Goodwill just yet!

I told my husband that one thing I wanted for xmas wouldn't cost him a single dime, RIGHT NOW.... to go and walk around in JoAnn's to my heart's content, looking at patterns and fabrics and just all kinds of things. So we did that last night! Do you know they have "sew by the numbers" quilt kits now? I'm gonna try to find one for a small wall hanging for my bedroom, to try my hand at a beginner's quilt. I had to move my wall clock because it wasn't in a stud and kept falling off the wall... so that leaves a small empty space on the narrow wall between my closet and bathroom doors. A small (12" x 20" or so) quilt is light enough, we could just staple it to the wall!

Fuck no, my mother wouldn't have known what to do with a sewing machine if she'd had one! I got a sewing machine on August 28, my son showed me how to thread it and the bobbin, and how to change the needle, and then i started reading online. Biggest problem I had was that most start with woven non-stretch stuff... but nothing in my closet is non-stretch, every damn bit of clothing i own is knit or stretchy, so I had to try to figure out how to START OUT with stretchy material... not hard, when you use the correct needles and especially, correct presser foot: a "walking foot," also known as an even-feed foot. It's really for quilting or other types of sewing that use multiple layers of fabric, but it also makes sewing on stretchy cloth a piece of cake, because it feeds the cloth from both below (the machine's feed dogs) and above (the walking foot's feed dogs), so it doesn't stretch out of shape.

Anybody who can read can teach themselves whatever they need to know. Claiming you "can't" is just arguing for your limitations, so you get to keep them. Or as my old violin teacher always said... "Can't never could, because can't DIDN'T EVEN TRY."

I got some ball-point needles right off the bat, figuring they'd do ok for all the various knit stuff I needed to work on, but I finally broke down and also got some "stretch needles" -- and they really do help; no more dropped stitches for super-elastic stuff like leggings or my camisoles.

For xmas, I got another sewing machine. The one i got first is your basic electric/mechanical, foot-pedal-operated Singer, and it's a very good machine... but it doesn't include some of the stitches I figured out that i really need, for stretchy stuff, AND it's very hard to go slow, when you're learning a new stitch or fabric, or working right at the edge of something and don't want the machine running off with you. So I got a Brother computerized/electronic machine; it's got 60 stitches instead of just 20, and it has a speed control and on/off button -- it does have a foot pedal too, but i don't use it, i just use the on/off button with the speed control. It won't do a few things that the Singer will -- for instance, the Singer allows you to change the foot pressure, but the Brother doesn't... and when you need to go right from thinner fabric to thicker, like when you're seaming up the side of a pair of pants and you eventually run into the waistband, with the Singer you can kinda force it to feed, but that doesn't work at all with the Brother. But between the 2 machines, I'm pretty well covered for most anything I need to sew.

Now, if we stay away from roads and such it is not likely for them to get us, but if they flew they would be crashing thru our roofs and such.

Completely agree, the only way flying cars would work is if they flew themselves and all of them had an anti collision radar. In any case I wouldn’t be a fan, just like with these cars that are moving toward self driving, I’d have a helluva time relinquishing the wheel and trusting a computer to get me safely to my destination.

My parents bought a new car, and my father said that it is very strange for the car to start trying to turn the wheel in his hands.. and hes not a big fan of it so far either

My elderly mother just got a 2020 Kia Sportage and I love the car but it has some interference I don’t care for, it’s equivalent to someone grabbing the wheel while you’re driving. If you don’t put turn signal on before switching lanes it fights with you trying to prevent you from changing lanes. You can turn it off though but you can also turn it up which would be terrible. I leave it on normal because it’s her car and she doesn’t mind it. I only use it a couple times a week when she needs a ride to the store or at night. She don’t drive at night and she likes being dropped at the front door and picked up on errands or groceries. Plus she likes to have her groceries unloaded from cart and unloaded from car to house. I’m happy to oblige, after all she is my mother and has always treated me right plus my dad asked me to look after her before he passed so being a good son I do as I was told.
Whoa sorry for the life story point was the car freaks me out when the wheel don’t do as its told. I will use my signals in traffic but sometimes it isn’t necessary when No ones around so I’d appreciate it if the car left the driving to me. But like I said it can be disabled fairly easily so not a huge deal more of an annoyance and a displeasure I could do without. Sorry I feel like I’m rambling so I’m gonna end it, my little helpers I use for sleep are kicking in and this is the result. Meandering post that goes this way and that as thoughts pop in my head and I type them in without any discipline in keeping to a point. Good night and I hope no one is still reading this.
