So, today a surprise gift from Pioneer4You arrived! As a thank-you for being patient while the IPV4 went through its lengthy development delays (and perhaps to assure us the IPV4s we ordered aren’t literally vaporware), P4U sent us a silver pre-launch IPV4 in generic non-retail packaging. They’ve also assured me that the full initial Smog Distribution IPV4 pre-order would ship from China by the end of next week (i.e. around May 8th), so if you ordered your IPV4 from us — rejoice! The wait is nearly over, after close to 3 months for some of us.

Imgur gallery of our pre-launch Silver IPV4 (thanks /u/smogLA for the pics, he's busy with shipping our bottom-feed Derringer & I'm cross-posting this to VU since he doesn't really come here)

Mini-Review:

This mod is excellent, overall. It feels sturdy and solid as hell. It’s actually smaller than it seemed in pics — it’s no 50W iStick, but it’s perceptibly smaller than an IPV3. The magnetic battery cover slides on and off smoothly & clicks into place satisfyingly. The battery door/cover actually appears to be a hard plastic material with a thick, durable rubber surface molded on -- not a metal door with a fragile, flake-prone coating, as many expected.

The SX330V4S chipset works perfectly in VW mode up to 100W, as expected. Menu design and layout is quite efficient and much more readable than an SX350’s cluttered screen. The battery life bar displays sag in real-time when you’re firing a build, and the memory settings are handy. The one feature, the temperature control, that everyone is dying to hear about was NOT included in this prelaunch device’s firmware, so I can’t give any insight into that yet. Once P4U/Yihi has posted the promised V4S Joule firmware “TC upgrate” online for download, I’ll flash it and make a post about that too. For now, the video P4U recently posted of the IPV4’s Joule mode in action will have to suffice.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask! I know this is probably the most anxiously awaited mod of the year so far (except the Cloudmaker Whiteout, but I *may* be biased there... =P), so I wanted to share this ASAP. More info might be found in the comments of this thread on reddit, if you're looking for every last bit of news.

I see you found the joules menu by reading the Reddit thread, looking forward to the temp control update you'll hopefully crosspost here as well.

Thread moved
@Whiskey, why did you move this thread? I'm not selling IPV4s or doing a promotion, this is my IPV4 and there's only one of them -- I'm keeping it! This is an informational post & mini-review for everyone who's been waiting for months to get theirs, and I think moving it away from where I posted it is a mistake... I mentioned the ship date for existing pre-orders (placed in February) for the company I work with because it's the first time P4U has ever given a remotely specific timeframe for shipping this device, and I only mentioned that because I'm so sick of seeing speculation and made-up dates from other vendors that I feel like citing your source and offering evidence when discussing the IPV4 rumors is essential. If you moved the thread due to some misinterpretation, could you please restore it?

Thanks for fixing that, but I have no idea what you mean by 'be careful when posting affiliate links', considering that I posted nothing of the sort, to my knowledge... As I said in my reply to your PM, if you could show me in the rules what exactly you're referring to, that would help me understand why you moved this in the first place. If I did something inappropriate, I'd like to understand what it is, but I just don't see it as of now.

No, you can't. They also didn't include the power adapter that charges the dedicated charging port with my unit.

seems to be plenty of confusion about the earlier specs advertized and the final product.
The box says charger included... it is not. The 9v 2a charger that works with ipv3 works with this one. (must be purchased separately)
The USB is for firmware only. NOT charging
There is not magnetic door closure but uses ball bearings.
The SILVER unit shipped has a black battery cover. The BLACK (not shipped yet) has black body and silver battery cover
There is NO pass through function on this unit.
The manual references a touch sensor... there is not one on this.

Overall though this is a nice 100 w/TC box for the price

We know the manual is hopelessly out of date and incorrect on so many counts it's not even funny, even for a Chinese booklet.

Also, you say it's not passthrough but when I asked, you said you haven't tried to vape it with the power adapter plugged in, so how can you know it's not passthrough? It's obviously not USB passthough since it doesn't have USB charging, but we've known that for a long time now. The question is whether or not it has passthrough capability when you've got it plugged into the 9v charger, or if it keeps you from vaping while it's plugged in to the charger. You won't break yours finding out, like you said you were concerned about in your other post, so feel free to try it out and tell us whether it actually has pass-through or not. I would do it myself if I had a charger.
