Another newbie I found on my scrolling.

FA description;

Emotion Cocoon
Our interpretation of the moment when the warm embrace of the caramel melds with the sweetness of the apple, another amazing fairground flavour.

http://flavourart.com/en/store/eliquid/e-liquid-no-nicotine/10-ml/cocoon-e-liquid-10ml-no-nicotine/

Has the potential to be a winner by the sounds of it

Doh, Sorry Im dumb, there is me asking what cocoon is and its one of the ones I have ordered. Remember really liking Sully’s Caramel Apple recipe on here, good combination of flavours, cocoon could be the hidden gem Im hoping, especially in terms of adding to mixes.

The new flavors do sound interesting but honestly, I'd rather they add more base flavors as opposed to blends we could do ourselves.

Im sure I read that Niagra guy was part of the american distributors and they ran a competition for a new flavour and it was some type of lemon fried doughnut that won? That is what interested me in these flavours thinking they may be new rather than blends especially cereal and doughnut flavours, I hope they arent just ruddy blends.

My problem with FA is more they have to put lemon, tobacco or some kind of fruit into there concentrates. I know its Italian but most of these flavours could be great bases just reading them if there wasn’t all this fruit in them fried doughnut, sponge cream cake, cereal coffee all sounds good to me as bases to mix, but adding fruit limits them.

I think the emoticon range was actually pretty good. Joy I use all the time in bakeries and pies. Aurora is a nice touch in fruit and drink recipes, Monsoon is very different it just doesn’t seem to mix with ANYTHING, Glory was popular but again I wish it didn’t have the tobacco in then it would be a great nut to mix.

Havent tried any of this new lot yet but I think they have the right idea with the cake flavours if they arent just blends and if they didn’t add ruddy fruits. Nonna Cake was a great idea (again take the ruddy lemon out)…..it just wasn’t very good, but I love it in creams. To me it is to creams what Joy is to bakeries.

Yes I would agree with that too. I would like to see a good proper sugar. FA is best doing background additives like meringue, joy, almond, torrone etc. TPA Brown Sugar is ok but just a thin wet syrupy sugar, cap sugar cookie the sugar element is nice but in the background. FA Has been my favourite concentrate vendor since I started mixing a year ago. But Inawera is rapidly catching up with good to great concentrates like shisha strawberry, cheriymoya, lemon cake, blue dwarf, bubblegum, waffle, crème brulee some of which arent for me like the waffle and some of them are outstanding like cheriymoya.

When deciding ratios, rather than determining # of drops, I would determine % instead? ... Or am I completely missing the point since the reason you measure by drops is so that you can be more precise, less wasteful and have more control, starting with the very least amount and working your way up from there?

2) When you say "I put a number 1 next to the minor-est ingredients and work up from there" do you mean that the minor-est (you created a new word!) ingredient always gets 1 drop, the next gets 2 drops and so on? I apologize in advance if I am being a dunce.

3) Last question - I am imagining that you spend a great deal of time re-wicking. How do you work it out so that you physically can taste a number of different ideas/batches in a short amount of time?

With new mixing ideas, I always start off with tiny batches & drops. That's fastest, easiest & least waste for me. In fact, it's 0 waste, unless I mix a real monstrosity (it happens). The key is, I know exactly how many drops/ml my syringes make, so it's very accurate and reproducible. When I want a larger batch, I use ml in the same ratios. For old favorites, I mix flavors-only, so I can quickly mix a batch to vape whenever I want.

There is some difference in the densities of various flavors, but it's rarely necessary to account for that in volume-versus-weight mixing. Alcohol-based flavorings are certainly an exception, but I don't use lots of them.

When I'm working on new recipes I usually use pro-tank-like knockoffs for the first round or two. I have heaps of them, always many going at any given time, for various in-progress projects. The coils are cheap (in bulk from China), and I go through MANY. Sometimes (rarely) I'll clean out the flavor with a soak in alcohol, then water; other times I'll vape unflavored (which I use regularly anyway to "clear my palate") until the residual flavor is gone; other times I just toss 'em. I used to rewick those, but with my general lack of coordination & eyesight it's like doing heart bypass surgery on a mouse, so I no longer bother. I've messed with fancier tanks & drippers, usually easier to rewick, but given that I find no better (and often less impressive) flavor, I always come back to reliable simple tanks for mixing new recipes.

Once I have a recipe I'm fairly pleased with, I finish with my favorite hardware. These days, it's usually eLeaf GS tanks.

Thanks HIC! You are helpful, as always. I too find that it's easier/quicker to taste using throw away coils vs. RTA/RBA and although I have a fair amount of them I haven't come across any tips/links on how to buy them "in bulk from China". Can anyone point me in the right direction?

So first thoughts on the range. Only an over night steep do don’t know if that has affected but two to try today, at the moment trying:

WOW @3%- Sorry wow isnt the term I would use, find this dissapointing:

1) As a donut, yeah its there but personally I much prefer boths capella and solub aromes. I find this pretty weak at 3% for a FA concentrate

2) As a standalone vape – definitely not

There is a quite nice lightly creamy, fruit dough element to this that I think it could possibly turn out to me something that works in mixes in an unexpected way like joy and nonna cake have even tho I didn’t like them.

Will experiment with this in some mixes in the future but I have to say as a donut and as a standalone, I find it very dissapointing.

Labyrinth @ 3% - Have waffled on about this in a recipe thread. But to keep it short, this is what I thought Nonna Cake would be. Is quite a similar taste but lighter less ricotta like of original Nonna Cake….BUT there is a very good sponge cake taste to it as well (a bit play doh like very faintly to me but probably due to a short steep, sure will settle). The fruit is very much in the background to the point Im not sure what it is, strawberry and some other berry I think. This IS a possible yellow cake replacement and I can see people remixing there old nonna cake recipes cake wise with this as it was what Nonna cake should have been basically.

Metaphor – Never had FA Citrus Mix, so don’t know if this is the same flavour. This one is ok, creamy citrus is what I am mainly getting. There is a cakey aftertaste to it, not sure what a crispy cake is meant to be, for me this is like some of the cake batter flavours without the butteryness of them. This one is pretty good but nothing to get excited about. So far I would say this is ok, Wow was a nice fruit cream but the donut was a bit boring. Labyrinth I liked more and more, and the people saying they wish FA would do more base flavours, the fruit was so much in the background and faint (mind you I barely taste lemon in FA custard or Nonna cake) I would say this IS a base flavour, Labyrinth is your sponge cream cake base for sure.

Cocoon - Toffee Apple: This is very nice....BUT....dont waste your money on this one unless you are new to DIY or dont have the conecentrates to mix what it is. Not made it for a while and I think this is a little sweeter, but this is basically one of the recipes I really enjoyed on here....Sully's Caramel Apple, tasted almost identical to how I remember it.

Have the coffee one and milk one left to try tomorrow, all of them have been ok but Labyrinth so far is the only one I would say go and buy for sure.

I used TFA Strawberry Ripe. I've done 3 batches and the lowest % batch was made 7/2. I've given it an air and shake each day. I can taste it alright but just wanted to notch it up a bit more. The highest mix I just made last night, shook it for 10 minutes and couldn't taste a thing on a dual .4 coil at 35-40watts.

I dont mind to steep things but I've heard fruits don't need much time so that's why I'm on here asking noob questions

I've been vaping since Feb 2015. I prefer stronger flavors but don't have to have bold all the time. I was wanting to nail down a simple apple strawberry for an ADV. Just thought I might be missing something. What I do taste on the Fuji is lovely!
Add 2% watermelon . It will add body

UP - a vibrant dessert of coffee, cream and cereals, but with a slightly alcoholic aftertaste (just the taste obviously.) UP, pure energy for your senses.

Ok Im digging this one on initial taste, though not getting the cereal description (I dont get cereals tho full stop). Im one of a minority it seems who finds FA Tiramisu a bit harsh and just tasting like coffee. This tastes to me mainly like I hoped Tiramisu would taste like when I purchased it a year or so ago. Smooth and creamy with a powdery chocolate coffee cocoa taste. There is an interesting little minor twang to it which I guess is the alcohol, but no idea what it actually is. This and Labyrinth I really like, not mad on the rest tho none of them are bad, but I did find wow dissapointing to what i was hoping for

Thanks for the reviews on the new flavours Willbo.

I also find tiramisu harsh even at 0.5%, even with Vienna and fresh cream added, and can't seem to find or create a good coffee recipe with tiramisu.

I see that'll have to order UP

Now my palletes settled the coffe/tiramisu is a lot lighter, getting a lot more of the backnote and aftertaste of the alcohol ingredient, it tastes familiar but as I don’t really use any alcohol flavours much not sure what it is, it is sweet and this is a nice one though, the surprise of the six I have tried…. I don’t taste any cereal or grain in this at all though personally.

Maybe Irish Cream or Jamaican rum?
Deffo not irish cream I have that one, doesnt taste like rum, tastes a tiny bit like tpa bourbon whisky but sweeter so maybe a whisky is fa whiskey sweet never had it? I havent drunk Southern Comfort in years (and only ever had it when it was nightclub completely wasted stage so no sense of taste) but it reminds me possibly of that so I would guess whiskey (prob totally wrong).

Hi

I mixed HICs Strawberry Cotton Candy recipe yesterday. It tastes brilliant, but kind of like a "wild berry-tizer". I used a 2:2 ratio (FA-Strawberry:FA-joy).
I want to decrease the wild natural berry taste and tap deeper into the cotton candy taste.

Should I decrease the strawberry or increase the joy to achieve my goal? Or both? Or is it not possible to transform such a classy combination into a cheap pudding?

If I can make adjustments to the ratio does anyone have a recommendation on exact percentage changes?

Any advice will be appreciated.

I'd add 1 or 2 drops of Sweetener and 0.5% EM/Cotton Candy rather than increasing the Joy.
0.5% FA Marshmallow and/or 0.5% FA Meringue can also help with sweetness some.
Pudding may require some TFA/CAP Vanilla Custard and/or FA Vanilla Classic + FA Fresh Cream.
Small amount of FA Yogurt might be OK too.
However with adding other things you may need to up the Strawberry a bit, but I'd try some first at the 2%.

Hi, thank you. I wish i saw this post earlier. I made three HIC recipes (my first diy attempt). I liked creamcycle and sugar almond tart. I didn't like the taste of joy in strawberry cotton candy. However all 3 juices had a chemical aftertaste, and a bit of a throat hit. My cousin told me he doesn't get the aftertaste as he halfs the %, due to many recipes being designed for non sub ohm devices. But he mostly uses TFA so all he does is keep his total flavour below 10%. At 3-4% FA my mix smells like chemical and has a perfume aftertaste. I mixed a new batch at 30 % of recipe suggestion, maybe lower.

I bastardized them a bit too:
For the sweet almond tart I added bit of vienna cream for smoothness, total flavour % was 0.89.
To the creamsicles I added a bit of strawberry and a bit of marzipan, total flavour % was 0.79.

After I shook up bottles I could still smell chemicals. I let it open. Later the room smelled like chemicals. I am leaving it open overnight. And will prob let it steep for another day or two before trying it.
I use the best nic available locally. Prime nic at 36ml. In the batch I discarded I used 36ml pg base at 3%.
For the batch I have standing now I used 36ml vg based at 1.5%, as I didn't like that I was throwing more nic in than pg ml for ml at 3%.
That has been remedied at 1.5%.

I have no idea what I am doing.
I am getting flavours in for that popular "white cake recipe" and "mustard milk" in the week.
I hope I have better luck. My cousins can pool knowledge about % changes in old recipes found online to adapt to low ohms, however they use TFA mostly so they just sort of mix at 50% and keep total below 10%
But as I alone am trying FA recipes, I am struggling.
Any help would be appreciated. In any regards whatsoever.

NB: I like very light Flavour, more to be chased than tasted. No throat hit, mouth to lung.

I would follow these steps here > http://vapingunderground.com/threads/finding-the-problem-when-your-diy-tastes-bad.88262/

My guess is that your more sensitive to one of those flavors than most are and it just don't agree with you.

Keep in mind some recipes posted are average, and some high.
I suspect if you're looking for a lighter flavoring you will need to reduce most/many recipes to get them to your liking.

Thanks. 30% of required amount, total under 1% experiment worked out well. Left it open for a day and a half, some shaking. Smooth inhale no friction and slight taste mostly on exhale. It's prob not for anyone but it's what I was after. At least I have a base now from which to work. Thanks for the support. Really.

I'm starting to realise that. I hope flavour notes don't change too much when I use my multiplier on the recipes.

Some that I've seen that I thought were kinda high I just cut the recipe in half.
Usually when the total flavorings used = 20% or higher.

Cool. I am slowly learning. I have some flavours coming in tomorrow to try that cake recipe from Jason and fizzs mustard milk. I'm having fun, but my wife looks a tad concerned about my spending.

I would like to thank all for the help I received on this forum. I have developed my personal routine. I follow a recipe at 60% others and 50% FA. Also before I use a bottle I let it stand without a lid in boiled water till water cools down. To purge the last of perfume that is so easy to taste at 50-60%. I do this regardless of how long it Has or has not steeped.

I am eternally grateful for the help.

Damn!, where's everybody at?

I could be wrong, but I can't conceive of any other viable possibility....

Since I have not seen a new recipe posted by Squonk since 8-4-14, I'm thinking Squonk must be at the Olympic Games down in Rio.

What I can't determine is what event(s) Squonk is competing in there. Anybody Know?

Wow... what a revelation... GS tanks... I've used Melo 3's but a 1.2ohm 3mm SS coil in a Kayfun4 @ 14-18 watts really brings out the best in HIC creations. Done the side by side taste testing. Will never go back to coils. Did the Fast tech bulk coils also, not consistent... I do have the luxury of having 6 K4's. I can rewick in under 10mins, and cost way less than coils. Really HIC you are missing out on how great your creations are!
