If you are not concerned with keeping this paleo, feel free to substitute soy sauce for the coconut aminos. You can also use tamari.

made one of these for Thanksgiving, a Galette de Roi...it has a frangipanni filling....I wasn't too crazy about the frangipanni filling , so I'm thinking of making it for a Christmas eve party, but using a hazelnut chocolate ,pastry creme filling instead.

480 × 360
Frangipanni? Like the flowers they make Hawaiian lei's from? They certainly smell sweet. Can not imagine the flavor.

they had Stollen as one of Da challenges
for the Great British Baking Show Holidays edition.
I would LOVE to make that yet dang
All that marzipan would cost a fortune.

marzipan:
a sweet, yellowish paste of ground almonds, sugar, and egg whites, often colored and used to make small cakes or confections or as an icing for larger cakes

yet I would just love this for the holidays
I think I spend 8 or 10 bucks worth of Marzipan in each loaf...not too bad....you just put a single roll of it down the center of each loaf....I have to say Stollen is one of my favorite things, and Christmas gives me the excuse to eat it.

Oh big diffference. I think you mean marzipan (almond paste). But I can see frangipanni as a flavor.

nope, there is a big differnce between frangipane and Marzipan ....here this will explain the difference to you...

https://www.thekitchn.com/whats-the-difference-frangipan-129522
This is frangipane
Yes I see and that is new to me. But I was correct about frangipanni being a flower? I may just be shot out. I remember marzipan figures being made for special occasions, flowers, decorations, etc. IDK maybe it was all a false memory. But I do remember not liking it much. I claim to be a career cook. I think this falls under baking which IMO is a different animal. Much more percise almost like chemistry.

yes, your right in Europe and especially in like Sicily marzipan is molded into the shape of fruits and flowers as a candy for holidays especially Easter. yeah I prefer cooking myself to baking, but this time of year baking does play a predominate role...besides like I said....Christmas gives me a perfect excuse to stuff my face on Stollen and cookies, which most of the year are verboteen.

I think marzipan is Eastern European too. I remember having them when certain relatives came to visit. They’re yummy, in and out of pastry, imho. (If they’re fresh.)

we just did not wanna seem rude..

I did not take it as being rude because a while back someone was blaming me because they could not see the pictures. Not on me when I copy and paste an image. After a little research they found out it was one their PC that the problem lied. All I can say is clear your cache. Could even be a corrupt cookie.

That pic was awesome. Maybe I will clear my cache, because I can see some of them and then some I can’t.

Maybe people hit the like button to let you know they read the post?

I remember riding in the elevator up to the observation deck on the Empire State building. The woman I was traveling with at the time was young, blonde, and apparently quite attractive to the load of drunk German businessmen who were in the elevator with us. They weren't a bit shy about it! A little awkward for her, funny as hell for me! I teased her about that for a good while afterwards, and of course I had to rat her out to the people in the office back home. She was good-natured and took it well. :)

I was so glad we went at night - the view from the deck, out over the city with the lights and the river, it was overwhelming. I have a problem with heights and get vertigo easily, but in the dark evening, that didn't happen.

Also had my one and only experience with a NYC cab driver. Ours appeared to be from an African country, and his command of English was really sketchy. He also drove like hell on wheels, up over curbs, right up on the ass end of cars in front of us. Typical, from what I hear.

Wish I'd had the chance to go into the library. That sounds awesome.

Bunny, we could probably solve a lot of problems if we could figure out why family members treat each other this way. That is a terrible shame for your grandmother and your family.

Sounds like she was a go-getter, though! She knew what she wanted and made it happen! Not so easy to do in those days. I'm sure the overwhelming majority of her family was proud and thankful for her.

How long ago was this? NY has gotten very hipster-ized so everything is sorta expensive and kinda “uncool” anymore, imho.
I used to love this City, but not so much now.

The high priced diner was because this neighborhood suddenly thinks it’s high end. It’s a nice neighborhood but it was never snobby. Now it’s hipster cool here, and they drove up the prices.

There was a deli (Katz’s) in the City that used to be popular and a little bit pricey. Then the hipster kids started going. You have to wait in a long line now, and a pastrami sandwich goes for @ $40. No joke. It’s really crazy. I don’t NY anymore!

But to see the sights, it would be nice. But overpriced!

That looks good. I make a soup that looks very similar to yours, with stewed chicken, baby carrots, onions, egg noodles, Italian seasoning, parsley, plenty of black pepper, and chicken stock base. It's one of my husband's favorite things I make - the man loves noodles and pasta.

I also make a variation of it with ground pork, cubed potatoes, baby carrots, onions, beef stock base, and the same seasonings plus a dash or two of soy sauce.

I love making soup.

Oh, me too. Soup is my absolute favorite. Or stew. (Same difference, really). Let me count the ways!

  1. It's low maintenance cooking.
  2. A whole meal in one pot.
  3. It's better every day it sits.
  4. You can usually make it from stuff you have around, even if only veggies. I'm a carnivore, but veggie soup and stew is very underrated. (E.g., the incredibly flavorsome borscht!)

Almost 3am here and I am still working on my first ever attempt at chicken enchiladas. It's not really a hard recipe, but has several steps and I've been anxious to get it right.

As I was complaining to Bunny earlier, I find most enchiladas I've eaten in restaurants (outside of California or PR) to be disappointing: dry and under-seasoned chicken on the inside with a canned or otherwise not-too-appetizing sauce and way too much cheese, apparently as compensation.

If this comes out well, I'm hoping to get a picture of it to share.... I'm so excited. omg, I skipped supper and I'm desperately hungry!

Here's hoping these enchiladas will be the up-side of insomnia.

How'd they turn out? I love chicken enchiladas, well, enchiladas in general. Never had any luck making them, though.

My sister-in-law who lives near Corpus Christie makes an enchilada casserole that'll make you wanna slap somebody (if they try to get any, that is). lol Her Tex-Mex is awesome.
