There has never been a time to stock up:
I know this will sound serious and most likely foolish but just sharing some information others may find useful.
Grab alot of Dark Clothing now, Black Pants and Shirts/Hoody that are non-reflective and loose. Find Holsters that make it easy to retrieve your sidearm easily without looking. Make sure you have a really good set of boots that will last. Gloves and Balaclava are optional.
Boots I recommend are
Maelstrom® TAC FORCE ($65ish)
I highly suggest getting a pistol and Pistol Caliber Rifle that use the same round and magazine. Like a 9mm Glock Mag 7.5" AR/ Extar EP9 and a Glock 19. That way you have a magazine and round thats found in almost every household. They are great out to 200 yards and that's more room than you will need for this type of scenario. Stock up on FMJ rounds as you will need as much penetration as possible.
Both or these Firearms can be on your body while your moving without much restriction, having a second AR15 (5.56) with a barrel of 18"-22" loaded with X193 rounds will punch through any Armed Combatants wearing the majority of Plates available, less than handful can withstand these rounds at the velocities they travel using a barrel size of 20" and over. Try to make these Rifles as light as possible without hurting its reliability and strength.
Stock up atleast 1000rnds per round type, not including the rounds you will have in your firearms or on your carrier. Even if they aren't used they will be good forms of currency if it gets bad.
I like using Pistol Red Dots on my Rifles for these distances as they are very quick, small, and do not block your field of view at all. The ADE Red Dots are a good place to start to see if you would like them...I have had 1 out of 4 fail on a pistol slide (none lost zero) so on a Rifle you wont have any issues and they arent more than $60. The Python is $40 and is the one I use on my pistols but I use their
RD3-013 Bertrillium on my Short AR's.
Grab a Plate Carrier, both Soft 3A Armor/3A+ Hard Plates and wear the soft armor outside of the Hard Plate. Get used to wearing the weight, this combo will stop just about everything up to .338 Lapua. I suggest getting one soft plate for your front and lightweight steel plates front and back for best protection/weight ratio. DO NOT FORGET TRAUMA PADS.

Hard Plate:

Outfit your Plate Carrier (I suggest a Condor MOPC) with Molle Attachments for Magazines, First Aid, Torniquik and the most important part...PATCHES
Next is all Drills and Training/Working Out and Diet - Stock up on MRE type food just in case you or your loved ones do not have a garden or immediate source of food if things go south. Water is one of the most important things on your checklist, 2 Liters of soda are less than $1, after using them refill with water and store.
Remember, this is worst Case Scenario prep. We still have some time so dont stress about getting everything you need "this moment", but dont shrug it off. Get it in small bits and slowly grow your inventory.
