Hot Bath May Benefit Leg Circulation

Peripheral artery disease (PAD) occurs when cholesterol builds up in blood vessels supplying blood to the legs, slowing or even blocking the flow of blood. The condition affects about 8.5 million Americans.

Symptoms include pain or cramping when walking, loss of muscle mass, skin that's cool to the touch, and sores or ulcers on the legs or feet that are slow to heal.

Regular physical activity and supervised exercise programs are key treatments for PAD. However, the authors of a recent study suggest soaking in hot water followed by light exercise may benefit PAD as much as a longer exercise session.

Researchers compared blood pressure and walking distance in two groups, each with 11 PAD patients. One group did up to 90 minutes of walking and resistance training once or twice a week.

The other group, dubbed the heat therapy group, soaked in a pool with warm water (about 102 degrees Fahrenheit) for 20 to 30 minutes and then did up to 30 minutes of calisthenics three to five times a week.

"There was no evident difference between the effects observed in heat therapy via spa bathing and a supervised exercise program," wrote Ashley Akerman and colleagues from the University of Otago and Dunedin Public Hospital in New Zealand.

Dr. Yi-Ming Yang, associate director of peripheral intervention at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City, called the idea of using heat therapy to alleviate symptoms of claudication "provocative." Yang said the heat therapy likely increased circulation around the clogged or narrowed blood vessels in the legs.

And here are 3 cardinal rules for selecting your cosmetics for healthier and younger skin…

➡️ Rule #1 - Check the labels. What’s in it?​

Look very closely at the labels to make sure 95% or more of the ingredients are truly organic, natural, and safe.

Some examples to look for include maple leaf extract and the extracts, oils, and butters of certain fruits.

And what if you’re shopping online and it doesn’t show the full list of ingredients for the product? Your safest step is to not buy it.

➡️ Rule #2 - Only choose products that are USDA Certified Organic (or your country’s equivalent).​

Don’t fall for tactics that simply call itself natural, wild-crafted, or organic. If it doesn’t have a certified seal by an independent organization with strict guidelines, then it’s highly likely not really organic.

USDA Certified Organic means that:

  • It contains at least 95% true organic ingredients
  • The other 5% of ingredients are on an approved safe list.
  • It is free of synthetic additives, including pesticides, chemical fertilizers, petrochemicals, and dyes.
  • No industrial solvents or irradiation were used during the manufacturing process.
  • It is free of genetically-modified organisms (GMOs)

Hi Jimi,

Ahvanya, 27, from Goa, India, has one wish when it comes to food and body: to never engage in negative self-talk again. Meaning, she would always trust herself with food, and she would never again judge her appearance. She would simply feel good about herself and feel confident all the time.

But is it realistic to think we can somehow stop the negative internal chatter, all those voices that tell us we should be different or better?

And if we could, would this finally allow us to be in perpetual bliss and balance when it comes to issues around emotional eating, body confidence, and weight?

As Marc explores with Ahvanya, it’s natural to see our negative self-talk as a problem. We can feel powerless and paralyzed by the difficult emotions they cause us to feel.

And we live in a world where the memes and conversations around us encourage us to think we need to be an unbeatable superhero, flashing heroic confidence and exuberant positivity at every turn.

But when we try to deny our thoughts, we’re ironically swapping out one type of perfectionism (“my diet and body must be perfect”) for another (“my thoughts are unacceptable and I’m unwilling to allow them”). And this sets us up for feeling like a failure yet again, just in a different way.

So what do we do in a world where we’ve been taught to be perfect, inside and out?

How can we learn and grow from our own psychology, while not feeling beholden to its whims?

Where can we simply allow ourselves to be real, vulnerable, and human?

Intermittent Fasting Eases Inflammation

You can argue about whether 1949's animated movie “Fast and Furry-ous” (in which Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner made their debuts) is better or worse — or more or less realistic — than Vin Diesel's 2001-2017 film series “Fast and Furious.”

But there's no longer any argument about what makes intermittent fasting so furiously, or seriously, good for you.

According to researchers at Mount Sinai Precision Immunology Institute in New York, intermittent fasting reduces the release of pro-inflammatory immune cells called monocytes, and puts those that are already circulating in your bloodstream to sleep.

That tamps down your risk for or eases symptoms of chronic health problems such as inflammatory bowel disease, cancer, high blood pressure, and prediabetes.

Research shows that Americans have an increasing amount of these tissue-damaging monocytes in their blood because of a high-fat, high-sugar, additive-laced diet, lack of exercise, and obesity.

Here's what Dr. Mike recommends in his book “What to Eat When”:

  • Eat your food during the first eight hours you're up — such as from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., or from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. This is much better for weight loss and heart health than alternate day fasting.
  • The 8:16 (8 hours eating, 16 hours fasting) pattern is more effective than a 12:12 intermittent fasting pattern when it comes to helping normalize blood sugar and insulin levels if you have prediabetes, and normalizing blood pressure if you have pre-high blood pressure.
The really good news: Eating 8:16 reduces nighttime hunger more than other fasting patterns.

*-- How To Repair Rough Dry Feet --*

Step 1: Soak your feet in warm water for 20 minutes every night before going to bed.

Step 2: Slather your feet in petroleum jelly immediately after soaking them in warm water, then place a pair of cotton socks on your feet before going to bed. The petroleum jelly will help seal in moisture while you sleep.

Step 3: Place a humidifier in your room while you sleep. When a humidifier is filled with water, it releases the water as vapor through the air, which is absorbed by the skin.

Step 4: Use warm or cool water in the shower instead of hot water, which may be removing the moisture from your skin and making your feet feel dry.

Step 5: Wash your feet with a mild soap that contains oils and fats. If your skin feels tight after showering, switch to a soap that contains moisturizers and makes your skin feel soft instead.

I have about 20 minutes before taking my youngest daughter to her algebra class so that's just enough time for this.
