Why A Cucumber A Day Is Good For You...

Hydration Help...

I mentioned that cucumbers are almost made completely out of water. But along with the water they also contain electrolytes. They can help prevent dehydration during the hot summer months or during and after a workout.

Staying hydrated is important for many things including maintaining a healthy intestine, preventing constipation, and avoiding kidney stones.

Try This: Mix some fresh mint and cucumber in your water to create a more attractive drink while relaxing at home, sitting in the office, or putting in a good workout at the gym.


Bone Health Help...

This one shocked me, but cucumbers are good for bone health.

One cup of cucumber provides 8.5 micrograms (mcg) of vitamin K. The Office of Dietary Supplements (ODS) recommends that women aged 19 years and over consume 90 mcg of vitamin K each day, and men 120 mcg.

It also contains calcium (and the vitamin K helps absorb the calcium into your bones).

Together, these nutrients contribute to good bone health.


Skin Help...

If used directly on the skin, sliced cucumbers have a cooling and soothing effect due to their anti-inflammatory benefits.

These can decrease swelling, irritation, and inflammation. People have even used it to alleviate sunburn and most commonly used to decrease "morning puffiness" on the eyes.

Does bottled water increase prostate cancer risk? But certain foods and nutrients — fiber, fruits, vegetables, and vitamin C — were shown to help offset nitrate’s negative effects.

Taking a 15-minute break from social media has big health rewards. Cutting down your social media use by 15 minutes per day significantly boosts health and immune function, and it helps lessen feelings of loneliness and depression, says a study in the Journal of Technology in Behavior Science.

Eating more microbes improves multiple health markers. Consuming more live microbes — probiotics, microbes in raw fruits and veggies, and lactic acid bacteria in fermented food — promotes healthier blood pressure, glucose and insulin levels, inflammatory responses, and body mass index, according to a study in The Journal of Nutrition.
