Hey Jim,

I was in the middle of a workday – probably a Wednesday – racing home after dropping my son at forest school. My schedule was packed, deadlines looming.
Then it hit me like a Mack truck.

This deep sense of dread that my life was insurmountable.
I was dropping all the balls, forgetting appointments, couldn't remember words.

My brain felt scrambled.

I remember thinking:

"What is happening to me? Am I burnt out? What's wrong with my brain?"
If you've ever had that moment where you're like,

"What the heck is going on? I have zero stress tolerance and can't handle things I used to handle effortlessly" – this episode is for you.

Because here's what I discovered:

Your brain is literally changing during perimenopause.
This feeling of being “off” isn’t in your head – it’s real, physical, neurological rewiring.

When I surveyed several thousand women in perimenopause, over 70% were struggling with brain-related symptoms.

In fact, research shows this transition holds the highest risk for psychological disorders compared to any other time in a woman's life.

In this episode, I'm breaking down the real science behind what’s happening in your brain and daily rituals that are literally saving my sanity (and can save yours too)

Tune in to today's episode >>

A couple of years ago, I was working in my garden and stepped backward with my left leg… right off of our rock wall.
My right leg stayed up top and my knee twisted, stretching one of my ligaments. OUCH!
This injury required months of physical therapy, and in the assessment process, I learned that my knees show signs of chronic arthritis.
Luckily, my late husband, John, had reached out to our friend K.P. Khalsa for help with his own knee issues.
K.P. offered advice that really helped us both.
Not only that, he offered to teach a class on herbal strategies for pain and inflammation for our whole LearningHerbs community!
Check out this free webinar that John and K.P. made just last year to introduce this transformative course.

Daily Walk Boosts Survival After Stroke

By Chauncey Crandall, M.D.

After a stroke, survivors can increase their odds for many more years of life through activities as easy as a half-hour's stroll each day, new research shows.

Special: Doctors Witness Amazing Joint Pain Changes

The nearly five-year-long Canadian study found that stroke survivors who walked or gardened at least three to four hours a week (about 30 minutes a day), cycled at least two to three hours per week, or got an equivalent amount of exercise had a 54% lower risk of death from any cause.

The benefits were highest among younger stroke survivors. Those younger than 75 who did at least that much physical activity had an 80% lower risk of death, according to the study published online in the journal Neurology.

The new study included nearly 900 stroke survivors, average age 72, and more than 97,800 people, average age 63, who had never had a stroke. All of the participants were followed for an average of about 4.5 years.

After accounting for other factors that could influence the risk of death, the researchers found that 25% of the stroke survivors and 6% of those who'd never had a stroke died from any cause during follow-up.

Among the stroke survivors, 15% of the people who exercised at least the equivalent of three to four hours of walking each week died, compared to 33% of those who didn't get at least that much exercise.

[ARTICLE] Over 165 Million Americans Are TOXIC Drinking Water Contaminated with PFAS
According to newly released EPA data, more than 165 million people in the U.S. are exposed to PFAS (also known as "forever chemicals") in their drinking water.
These toxic chemicals don't break down in the environment. They can build up in the human body, where they've been linked to cancer, hormone disruption, liver damage, high cholesterol, and immune system harm, even at very low levels.
PFAS have been found in tap water systems nationwide, and the problem keeps growing. The EPA's most recent tests show contamination in over 4,000 water systems nationwide.
EWG warns that the number of affected people is likely even higher, because many water systems haven't been tested yet.
The bottom line is that PFAS contamination is a national crisis. Millions of Americans may be unknowingly exposed to it every day through their water. Click here to read more.

The TRUTH about Bread

One of the biggest misconceptions about eating a “healthy diet” is that you have to give up all your favorite comfort foods. And there’s one comfort food most people find almost impossible to give up...

    BREAD.

In nearly every country, bread is served in some form at breakfast (toasts, bagels, donuts, pastries, croissants), lunch (sandwiches, paninis), dinner (baguettes and rolls)… and as a snack (crackers and crisps).

The great news is you don’t have to give up your favorite bread to follow a healthy diet... you just have to choose healthy bread.

Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is “gluten-free.” Unfortunately, most gluten-free bread is just as bad (and probably worse) for you as the regular kind.

In fact, most gluten-free bread spikes your blood sugar MORE than sugar itself!

It’s no wonder a study, published in the American Journal of Gastroenterology, showed that 81 percent of subjects following a gluten-free diet GAINED weight after two years!

And that’s not the only reason to avoid most gluten-free bread and other snacks. You’ll discover
    mail
another MAJOR reason to avoid these foods on this page.

But it’s not all bad news today, because you’ll also discover how to use “intelligent ingredients” so you can actually enjoy your favorite bread, sandwiches, and pizza – 100 percent guilt-free!

And the best part is that these bread can actually support your success – because they’re very low in carbs and rich in healthy, slimming fats!

Discover the dangerous lies you’ve been told about bread… PLUS dozens of healthy makeovers that you must see – and taste – to believe!

    To your health,

P.S. Did you know that one of the biggest risk factors for heart disease is triggered by a specific compound (NOT gluten) that is found in wheat bread?

Cervical cancer survivor: Kirsty Browne

When I was 26, my world turned inside out overnight. I was completing the final year of my pharmacy degree and studying hard for the pharmaceutical intern exam. I was also told I had a rare type of cervical cancer.

It was an unexpected curve to say the least. Even as a scientist, I thought I was way too young for cancer. I had been proactive with cervical screening and had received the HIV vaccine when I was 17. I can honestly say the diagnosis knocked the wind out of me.

In 1860, Jasper Francis Cropsey painted what is arguably the masterpiece of his career, the monumental “Autumn – On the Hudson River.” He spent at least a year on the project in his London studio, painting from memory.

At first glance, one can feel overwhelmed by the vast view, but closer inspection reveals details of everyday life that make the scene accessible.

Hello Jimi,
We are constantly being exposed to potentially dangerous toxins through the food we eat, the air we breathe, and the water we drink.
In 2016, the World Health Organization (WHO) published a report tracking air pollution levels, and found that they had risen 8% between 2011 and 2016.
The WHO monitors the food and water supply for toxins, and has found that a large percentage of food consumed by Americans is deemed unsafe. The highest concentration of toxins are derived from glycophosate (found in the pesticide Roundup).
Exposure to pesticides can come through food—either on or within fruits and vegetables, in the tissues of fish and other animals we eat, through contaminated drinking water, or in the air we breathe.

Most of us have an accumulated build-up of pesticide exposure in our bodies due to numerous years of exposure. This chemical "body burden" as it is medically known could lead to health issues such as headaches, birth defects, and added strain on weakened immune systems.
Some toxins can be absorbed through your skin. Personal care products, like shampoos, make-up, perfumes, and lotions often contain parabens, formaldehyde, and phenoxyethanol. As these products are absorbed, those toxins come into the body too.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has 80,000 chemicals registered for daily use. Of those, only about 250 currently have testing to assess their safety.
The United States uses 18,000 pesticides and sprays 5 billion (yes, Billion) pounds of pesticides per year. Only 1% of these pesticides make it to the targeted pest which means 99% of pesticides sprayed end up somewhere else.

The Physical and Spiritual Benefits of Fasting

In January 2020, I organized a fundraiser for Marianne Williamson at Wanderlust Hollywood, a fantastic multi-story wellness venue that I built in Los Angeles. At the time, Marianne was a Democratic candidate for the president of the United States. Before Commune’s website was even live, Marianne agreed to shoot the first course for the platform in my living room in Laurel Canyon. As a result, I’ve always felt indebted to her. The “new” need friends. And she was a good one. In the spirit of reciprocity, I signed on to raise money for her fledgling campaign.

The evening featured Marianne in conversation with comedian-cum-spiritualist-cum-political commentator, Russell Brand. I was looking after Russell’s career at that juncture, a pursuit that I wouldn’t categorize as good stress. Our work together focused on recovery from addiction as applied to drugs, alcohol, pornography, shopping, gambling, and patently not coffee. The night of the event arrived, and a dozen espresso shots later, I got Russell to the side of the stage.

And like thousands of nights before, I stood in the alpenglow of the mayhem, head-spinning and alone. And I did what I always did. I sought out food and drink to reward my efforts and calm my frazzled nerves.

Oddly, Los Angeles does not offer a glut of late-night eateries like other cities. With the options limited, I soon found myself at a Denny’s at the junction of Gower and Sunset. I snuggled into a corner booth and ordered a beer with only a minuscule pang of guilt. My work in the recovery space certainly didn’t apply to myself. I perused the sandwich board that was affixed above the counter. I was both scandalized and momentarily pleased to discover that there were now four meals per day – at least at Denny’s – including breakfast (served all day, thank God!), lunch, dinner, and … late-night!

“Hmmm,” I thought to myself. “We’re hungry ghosts. We never stop eating.” And then I proceeded to order a turkey club.

That meal was a familiar balm for my anxiety. A fleeting relief. And later that night, like clockwork, I woke up at 2:45 AM and tossed until sunrise. It was a pattern that led me straight into diabetes.

In today’s essay, I explore how I reversed that trajectory through a practice as old as humanity: fasting.

Yes, it’s physiological; my fasting glucose dropped from 125 mg/dL to 85 mg/dL in just four months, but it’s also deeply spiritual. As I began to restrict my eating window, I found myself not just hungry for food but for peace. And in that space between hunger and response, I learned to sit with discomfort rather than escape it.

Inside, you’ll find:
→ My personal fasting routine and how I reclaimed metabolic health
→ A breakdown of how fasting improves blood sugar, burns fat, and supports mitochondrial function
→ Interviews with researchers and doctors on AMPK, autophagy, and sirtuins
→ Reflections on the spiritual roots of fasting in Christianity, Islam, and Buddhism
→ A simple question that changed everything: Is this hunger biological or emotional?

Fasting isn’t just about food. It’s about reclaiming our power to choose, to respond, to feel fully alive in our bodies without numbing out.

In a culture that feeds us 24/7, fasting is a form of remembering. It’s how we realign with the natural cycles our bodies evolved for, seasons of abundance, yes, but also of scarcity, rest, and renewal.

Thanks for being here.

How Pediatric Vaccine Mandates Are Hidden Behind “Quality Measures”

The recent article "A Rational Moment: Kennedy and Oz" by Popular Rationalism sparked a vital conversation about the systemic coercion embedded within our healthcare institutions, particularly when it comes to vaccines. While that post eloquently dissected the broader cultural and political implications of vaccine mandates, this article zooms in on how these coercive tactics have been quietly enforced in pediatric care through so-called “quality measures.” For over a decade, these policies have undermined informed consent, masking aggressive vaccination protocols under the guise of improving healthcare outcomes. It’s time to pull back the curtain on these hidden mechanisms and demand a return to patient-centered, outcome-focused medicine.

Greetings!
I wanted to share something important I learned from herbalist K.P. Khalsa in this webinar on managing pain and inflammation with herbs.
Many people, including myself, often misunderstand how to use herbs effectively.
For example, did you know that proper herbal treatment sometimes requires much higher doses than we’re used to hearing about?
Here are a few other misconceptions folks have...
  • All pain is caused by inflammation
  • Herbal remedies work instantly like pharmaceuticals
  • Herbs are safe in any amount
  • Herbs can be used without understanding the underlying issue
In this webinar, K.P. dives deep into these misunderstandings and shows us how to truly harness the healing power of herbs like turmeric and willow bark for lasting relief.
Here’s what’s happening tomorrow and Friday...

Hey there Jimi,

How colorful is your plate?

It may sound like a silly question, but hear me out.

Many people tend to default to a few basic colors on their plate:
  • Green for lettuce, spinach, or cabbage
  • Orange for carrots or oranges
  • Red for apples or tomatoes
  • Yellow for bananas
But beyond that, there’s not a whole lot of color to the diet of an ultra-busy working professional because who’s got time to prepare a whole meal with a wide assortment of fruits and veggies?

Well, I’ve got news for you: the more colors you eat, the healthier you’re going to be!

A study from 2021 highlighted the importance of a variety of colors in your diet. The research identified a link between more colors and healthier aging.

Why is this? Simple: color comes from flavonoids, a.k.a. antioxidants.
For example:
  • The orange coloration of oranges, pumpkins, and carrots comes from beta carotenes.
  • The red coloration of watermelons and tomatoes comes from lycopene.
  • The purple coloration of red grapes and red wine comes from resveratrol.
  • The blue coloration of blueberries comes from anthocyanins.
  • The dark green coloration of spinach, kale, and chard comes from chlorophyll.
All of these antioxidants are crucial for good health and healthy aging.

In the 2021 study, it was discovered that people who ate a wide assortment of colors had as high as a 20% lower risk of cognitive decline as they age.

While flavones and anthocyanins were the most powerful of the antioxidants, all the color-providing antioxidants in fruits and veggies led to a noticeable improvement in cognitive function among aging participants.

A study from May 2025 provided even more proof that eating colors is the smart choice.

Data collected from more than 85,000 participants across 24 years discovered that people who ate more flavonoids tended to have better health overall. There was less risk of poor mental health (12%), impaired physical function (12%), and frailty (15%).

It’s important to note that while the greatest improvements were seen among women, higher flavonoids still led to better cognitive health among men, too.

Just three servings per day was enough to provide the many benefits flavonoids can offer, including:
  • Reduced oxidative stress and free radical damage
  • Decreased inflammation
  • Healthier blood vessels and better overall cardiovascular health
  • Reduced risk of skeletal muscle mass wasting (a common side effect of aging)
  • Better eye, skin, and hair health
  • and the list goes on!
Adding more colorful foods to your diet can be an absolute game-changer for your health—not only in the short term, but for the rest of your life.
So which foods should you be concentrating on?
  • Black tea. Black tea is rich in flavonoids and polyphenols, and is known to be both heart-smart and excellent for cognitive function. It also contains a much lower dose of caffeine and can be a safe, healthy alternative to coffee.
  • Dark chocolate. The polyphenols and flavonoids in dark, bittersweet chocolate are amazing for your cardiovascular health and may even have anti-cancer benefits.
  • Tomatoes and watermelon. Both of these red fruits are rich in lycopene, an antioxidant that can protect against prostate cancer and thus is very important for the health of aging men.
  • Dark, leafy greens. Between the high fiber, chlorophyll, and vitamin and mineral content, dark leafy greens like kale, spinach, and chard are a game-changer for your health overall.
  • Berries. Raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, Acai berries, and Goji berries are all packed with fiber, Vitamin C, and antioxidants that can stave off aging, protect your cognition, and improve your immune health.
  • Red wine and red grapes. Resveratrol is one of the best antioxidants for your heart and brain health.
  • Oranges, carrots, and pumpkins. The beta carotene in these orange foods will improve the health of your skin, hair, and eyes by providing your body with critical Vitamin C.
Make sure you eat at least one food of each color every day to protect your health for the rest of your life.
Yours in good health,

Every second of every day, your body’s internal defense system is working tirelessly to keep you safe and healthy.

From the trillions of micro-organisms in your gut to the native white blood cells in your bloodstream, there are battles being waged and treaties being signed inside of you… all the time.

We call this our immune system - and most folks think its main job is to fight off colds + heal scrapes and cuts.

But it does far more than that…

Did you know that your immune health is directly tied to the health of your brain? Your heart? Your skin and hair?

Get this - the strength of your immunity is now seen as a huge factor in your risk of developing various forms of cancer.

The bottom line is that we’re just now beginning to understand the vast power of this living system within us all.

To help us explore it further, my friend Stefan Apostolov has created a powerful docuseries called Unbroken that I highly recommend checking out.

In this FREE series, you’ll learn about the hidden root causes of major diseases, and the role that your immune system plays in healing them. You'll learn how to work with this protective force within you and nourish it properly, so that it works to support you.

Click here to watch the trailer

With each episode of this groundbreaking documentary series you’ll see real life examples that prove a simple fact of aging: Your genetics don’t dictate how long you live, how fast you age, and whether or not you’ll lose your identity, your freedom, your memory, or your life.

And you'll discover the real culprit that’s causing the pain, the aches, the fatigue…

The truth is that there is something else that's making millions of Westerners sick and it has nothing to do with the DNA we inherited from our parents...

Want to find out what it is? Tune in to Unbroken!

How to stop cognitive decline way before it starts
Cognitive decline is a slow thief that eats away at your memory, focus, and independence.

And it often starts with small, frustrating moments. Like misplacing your car keys, forgetting why you walked into a room, or struggling to recall a word that’s right at the tip of your tongue.

It can continue to grow bigger until it takes away your ability to live life on your own terms.

But you don’t have to let it, if you know how.

When you start cutting out a few common habits that quietly chip away at your cognitive health and replace them with brain-supporting ones, you can create the perfect conditions for mental clarity, resilience, and long-term vitality.

Our friends at Zonia put together a brand-new free guide that shows you exactly what to avoid and what to do to protect your brain and support clearer thinking, starting today.
👉 Click here to download your free copy: “The 7 Most Detrimental Habits for Your Brain + 5 Tips to Improve Cognitive Function.”

Understanding EMF Exposure:
What You Should Know on Your Healing Journey

mail

As we walk through healing together, it's important to consider all the factors that can impact our health—body, soul, and spirit. At HealingStrong, we encourage informed choices, especially for those facing or healing from cancer. One topic that comes up more and more is the safety of 5G and EMFs (electromagnetic fields). You may have heard concerns about whether 5G or wireless technologies could influence your health, especially when your body is already working so hard to heal.

Let’s break this down together in a simple way.

What Are EMFs?

EMFs are invisible to the naked eye and often associated with electricity and wireless devices such as cell phones, Wi-Fi- routers, and power lines. 5G is the newest generation of wireless networks, and uses higher frequencies than the older systems, which allows faster speeds and more connectivity—but it also means more antennas and more frequent exposure.

Why Does This Matter in Healing?

While the mainstream debate continues of the long-term effects of low-level EMF exposure, we believe in taking a proactive, preventative approach—especially for those healing from cancer.
Some studies suggest that chronic exposure to EMFs may interfere with sleep, weaken immune function, and increase oxidative stress in the body—all things we want to minimize during healing. Though the science isn’t settled, many in the holistic and natural health communities feel strongly that EMF radiation—particularly with the introduction of 5G—should be approached with caution.

What Can You Do?

We don’t need to live in fear—but we can take simple steps to reduce exposure and support our body’s natural healing process.

Here are a few ways:
  • Limit direct contact with your phone: Use speaker mode or wired headphones when possible.
  • Turn off Wi-Fi at night: Give your body a rest from constant signals while you sleep.
  • Keep devices out of the bedroom: Your rest and repair time is to be restful and peaceful.
  • Avoid placing laptops and phones directly on your body: Distance does make a difference.
  • Explore EMF protection tools: Some members use shielding products for their devices or clothing.

A Hopeful, Simple Approach

At HealingStrong, we’re about faith-informed action. If you're in a healing season or looking to reduce your exposure to toxins and harmful stressors to your body, consider reducing your EMF exposure as one more way to lighten the body’s toxic load and support your immune system. Every choice matters.

If you want to check out this topic further, you can go here to learn more.

REMEMBER… You don’t have to do it all at once. Start small, ask questions, and seek God’s wisdom. You’re not alone—and together, we are healing strong.

Hi Jimi, in LET'S GET PERSONAL, one supplement that both Dr. Joel Fuhrman and Dr. Neal Barnard urged everyone to strongly consider today was vitamin B12.

Many people are low in it -- especially older adults and plant-based eaters -- and most people don't understand its many mission-critical functions.

That's why I created this clear, research-based article for you. It also includes guidelines on what to look for and avoid in a supplement, a top recommendation on this front, and more.

Click here for THE CRUCIAL BENEFITS OF VITAMIN B12 AND BEST PLANT-BASED SOURCES OF IT article now!

If you appreciate this article, please SHARE a comment about it at the bottom of the page.

Because in it, you are about to discover:

  • The 10 top health benefits of B-12 for your body
  • The 11 signs you may be low in B-12
  • The top-recommended foods for B-12, including plant-based sources

Now, you will see that certain seaweeds are one of those great foods for vitamin B-12.

And, YES, believe it or not, I have a terribly good "dad joke" about seaweed to conclude this email...

(Because smiles and laughter are ALWAYS "good medicine.")

What should you do if you become addicted to seaweed?

Sea-kelp!

;-)

Enjoy the important learning in this vitamin B-12 article, and enjoy your day!

Hi Jimi,
Speaking from experience, if you or someone you love is battling chronic fatigue, anxiety, or depression, we urge you to take a closer look at their kitchen.
Hidden in everyday foods are ingredients like “natural flavors,” sucralose, aspartame, Red 40, BHT, and sodium benzoate. These aren’t harmless additives - they’re artificial chemicals that can fuel inflammation, drain your energy, disrupt your gut, and keep your body stuck in survival mode, and they can be found lurking in “low-fat” and “diet” products.
