A Little Health Improvement Goes a Long Way

When David Archuleta sings "A little spark to get through the night/ Could be enough to see a new day/ 'Cause a little goes, it goes a long way," he is describing perfectly just how little it can take to turn your life around.

If you're 65 to 79, sedentary and obese, a randomized, controlled trial of 160 adults published in the journal Circulation found that cutting as few as 250 calories a day from your diet and doing aerobic exercise with a trainer for 30 minutes, four days a week for five months is enough to help restore flexibility in a previously stiff aorta (an indication of plaque deposits and heart attack and stroke risk), reduce high blood pressure, and help you lose 10% of your body weight.

Increasing the calorie restriction didn't improve outcomes; neither did exercise without moderate calorie cutting. Too much or too little isn't your goal — it's persistence and consistency.

A good way to figure out how to cut 250 calories from your daily diet is to write down everything you eat for a week. Then figure the calorie count for each item (check out nutritiondata.self.com) and make choices with the aim of eliminating added sugars, unhealthy fats, and red meats.

If you're sedentary, it can be tough to start exercising. So try walking — aiming for 30 minutes four days a week. Then consider pool aerobics, joining a class, or working with a trainer to help you establish an exercise routine.

*-- What Those Cravings Are Telling You --*

The most common cravings are usually dairy products, chocolate, sweet foods, salty foods, and red meat!

Dairy Products

In the case of dairy products (cheese specifically or even pizza sometimes) means that you have a fatty acid deficiency. Omega-3 and Omega-6 are a very important part of your health. They are important parts of the cell membranes and also help in regulating blood pressure and inflammatory responses. These Omegas also play a role in preventing cancer and diabetes and help to protect against fatal heart diseases.

**Instead of eating cheesy foods or pizza, try fish, walnuts, or flaxseed to get rid of the cravings!**

Chocolate

In the case of chocolate, it generally points to a deficiency in magnesium. An estimated 80% of the worlds population has a magnesium deficiency. Magnesium keeps the body running, from helping with organ function, to muscle contraction, food conversion, strong bones and teeth, immune system support, as well as blood sugar and blood pressure regulations. Magnesium also regulates other vitamins and minerals essential to your body.

**Instead of chocolate, eat fish, nuts and seeds, legumes, spinach and beet greens, potatoes with skins, yogurt, avocado, milk, bananas, dried apricots and raisins. If chocolate is required for your craving make it dark chocolate or a small piece no bigger than an inch square**

Red Meat

In the case of red meat, your body is telling you it needs iron. Most people already know that. Iron deficiency is the number one cause that leads to anemia in the United States. Women who menstruate actually are more susceptible for iron deficiency. And women, did you know, when you're suffering from iron deficiency, the symptoms for PMS actually get worse? Iron is required for oxygen to be carried throughout the red blood cells in a body, as well as for oxygen to be transported to the muscles. Iron also helps with keeping your body temperature regulated, immune function, and keeping a healthy metabolism.

**Foods high in iron other than meat consist of egg yolks, dark leafy greens (spinach, collards), dried fruits, beans and lentils, as well as artichokes.**

Salt

In the case of salt cravings it means you're stressed out!! When you get stressed, cortisol is released, which causes your body to crave high fat, simple carb foods. To get away from this craving, take some breaths and go for a walk. Take yourself out of the situation. Or, if you can, meditate. Believe it or not, when you crave salt, food isn't the answer, de-stressing is!

Sweets

In the case of sweets, your body is telling you that your blood sugar in fluctuating. When you eat excessive simple sugars your insulin levels spike and can lead to diabetes. Reach for some fruit instead. It contains fiber and will keep your levels from fluctuating. They also contain vitamins and minerals and far fewer calories than a candy bar.

**If you can't handle fruit, try cutting up numerous kinds and taking a bit of all to work to change things up and keep you on track!**

Honestly, no matter what your craving is, the best answer is water. People often think they are hungry and really, they are actually dehydrated without even realizing it. When you feel like you absolutely must have something, drink a full glass of water and wait 30 minutes. More than likely, you won't be hungry at all after that!

The one thing missing from your functional/holistic medicine strategy…

Hey Jimi

Every day I speak with individuals who are struggling with chronic digestive issues, hormone imbalances, inflammation, low energy and anxiety.

And I totally get it...I remember living that reality.

Honestly, I didn’t know anything different.

As of today, there are 13,627 deaths reported from the C-VAX submitted to the United States CDC VAERS database.*


A separate independent report was done of the VAERS databse by Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, Inc., and they found; "fewer than 1% of vax adverse events are reported."**


That means the real number of deaths from the vax could potentially be 100x higher!

Take a Hot Bath for Heart Health

Research from Japan suggests a daily bath might help lower your odds for heart disease and stroke.

The study tracked 30,000 adults ages 45 to 59 starting in 1990 until they died or until the end of 2009, whichever came first. After accounting for other factors, the researchers found that taking a hot bath each day was associated with a 28% lower risk of heart disease and a 26% lower risk of stroke.

“Frequent tub bathing was significantly associated with a lower risk of hypertension, suggesting a beneficial effect on risk of [heart disease],” wrote a team led by Dr. Hiroyasu Iso, professor of preventive and environmental medicine at Osaka University.

The researchers stressed that this is an observational study, so it can’t establish cause and effect. However, they noted that prior research has pointed to a link between heat exposure and heart disease prevention because the effects of heat on the body are similar to those of exercise.

“The concept of daily bathing improving cardiovascular outcomes makes sense,” said Dr. Guy Mintz, director of cardiovascular health at Sandra Atlas Bass Heart Hospital in Manhasset, New York.

“Bathing in warm or hot water is associated with dilation and relaxation of the blood vessels, causing a reduction in blood pressure and an improvement in the cardiac output.”

He also said that taking a bath before bed might help improve sleep, and better sleep has long been linked to better cardiovascular health.
