PATIENCE​

I am an incredibly patient person, except when it comes to myself. As it seems with so many of us and so many things in life, we apply a different set a “rules” to ourselves than to others. Always be kind to others, but we often don’t extend that same kindness to ourselves. Always treat others with respect, and yet we often do not respect our own needs and boundaries. Practice patience with others, but expect the world of yourself NOW.

I’m very guilty of this, but it was even worse before cancer. Among many things, cancer helped me see that everything is a process. As much as we would love to be fully healed and healthy now, that’s just not how it works. It took many years to develop an internal terrain where cancer thrives, and so it will take longer than a few weeks to reverse it. Meet yourself where you are now instead of being frustrated that you aren’t where you want to and will be one day. Show patience to yourself through this process, because being hard on yourself really isn’t going to help you reach your goal.

And this is true of your mental and emotional healing too. I know for me, ignoring my needs and pushing myself way too hard instead of being patient with where I was and what I could reasonably do were definitely contributing factors to cancer developing. Self love and self care should not be viewed as indulgences that you squeeze in once in a while; they should be viewed as necessities, both while you’re in the throes of healing and also when life finds an even keel again. They will in fact contribute greatly to that evenness.

Small steps forward are still steps forward. Little wins are still wins. And you are deserving of a peaceful, unrushed path to holistic health and healing. Start where you are, for the journey is long and is about so much more than where we’re going.

Throwback Blog Posts: "The Cold Quadfecta"​

It is officially cold and flu season! And I suppose there is still a global pandemic on 😝 So, it’s the perfect time for this throwback blog post: The Cold Quadfecta! In part one and two of this series, I go into detail on the benefits of my four go-to supplements when I feel a cold coming on. And for those who are into research like me, I also include lots of articles on the science behind those benefits.

Mental Health Monday​

The brain is viewed as the central command of the body, doling out signals and instructions to every organ and regarding every function of the body. The case is no different when it comes to the brain sending messages to the heart, but did you know that the heart actually sends more messages to the brain than the brain sends to it?

HeartMath Institute is a research and technology company that has dedicated itself to deepening the research on the heart-brain connection and perfecting science-backed tools and knowledge that help us optimise this connection to improve our mental and emotional wellbeing. HeartMath discovered that when we are experiencing stress or negative emotions, our heartbeat is erratic and sends the signal to our brain that we are stressed. This then impacts things like our cognitive functioning, problem solving, decision making, and our ability to think clearly and process emotions, serving to reinforce the emotional experience of stress.

In their research, HeartMath discovered something vital: the importance of something called heart rate variability (HRV). Even when resting, heart rhythm is surprisingly irregular, and this normal variation from beat to beat is called heart rate variability. HRV gives us a lot of insight into the functioning of the autonomic nervous system, and scientists and physicians consider it an important indicator of physiological resilience, behavioural flexibility, and our ability to adapt to stress and environmental demands.

Experiencing things like stress, anxiety, fear, and anger (emotions that are all in large supply after a cancer diagnosis) all serve to increase an uneven and erratic variability in our heart rate, causing our bodies to operate inefficiently, our energy to be depleted, and extra strain to be put on our entire system. On the other hand, positive emotions create a smooth HRV and something called heart coherence, causing a coherent heart rhythm and synchronicity between the sympathetic and parasympathetic branches of the autonomic nervous system and helping our bodies to function better and with more efficiency.

HeartMath has devices and exercises that you can use in conjunction with these devices to help teach your heart to be in coherence and a smooth HRV more of the time, improving both your physiological and mental/emotional health and functioning. I use their Inner Balance wired device with their app and my iPhone, and I have found that it has allowed me to deepen my meditative states and quickened the time it takes me to get there as well as allowed me to more easily tap into that place outside of meditation when I am feeling stressed or anxious. They even assign you goals and achievements to help keep you motivated and on track.

In the Facebook group this week, I shared two free masterclasses that were being offered by Food Matters, a website all about how our diet affects multiple areas of our health, like gut and hormone health, and how we can optimise our diet.

Though the free airing of the masterclasses has ended, I still wanted to share this whole website with you, as it is a fantastic resource in and of itself. You can find free articles, recipes, and podcast episodes, and they also have films and online programs available for purchase.

Yes the vaccine does "NOT" prevent you from getting the virus, today more vaxxed are getting "AND SPREADING" the virus that those that aren't vaxxed.
Yeah im hearing that increasingly from everywhere.
They still insist here that the unvaccinated are 20 times more likely to spread covid. That getting vaxxed protects those around you.
But just days ago I read something from the Lancet UK that said studies showed the vaccinated carry virtually the same viral load as unvaccinated.
In the past week here, in venues that only Vaccinated can enter showing their vaccinated certificate upon scanning in, these have been gyms and nightclub type places, there has been alerts issued in the media to those who attended them that they were covid hotspots and for all who attended to immediately get tested!
I dont think they realise how idiotic they sound. Alerting fully vaxed people to get immediately tested for covid!?
You'd have to be questioning getting that alert wouldn't you, like, "ok what was I injected with and whats all this madness about checking in and my vax passport all about then!?"

So last Wednesday was my 9 year old's birthday.

I did everything in my power to make the day feel special for him.

It started with gluten free pancakes, crispy bacon and orange juice in bed.

We went to a world famous skate park called Woodward, where he flung his body around like a madman with his best friend.

He had an amazing gluten free vegan chocolate avocado mouse birthday cake.

There were gifts.

But as we were snuggling up in bed at the end of the day, he broke out in tears about how horrible the day was.

Now, I will be honest...

The ego in me that had tried so hard to make the day special for this kid was very offended by this.

But luckily, I was quick to silence that voice and just listen.

Because as his seams loosened and his stuffing began to fall out, some big truths started to follow.

He was actually very upset that his birthday was now over and now that meant he was one day older.

And being older meant that he was closer to dying.

Being older, also, implied that I (his mother) was closer to dying.

And he was terrified about whether or not he would be able to survive or know what to do for a job.

I pulled his little body close and told him that he had nothing to worry about.

That neither of us are dying any time soon and he will know when it's time about his place in the world.

This meltdown got me thinking about the impact, fear and uncertainty that the last 2 years has had on the collective (especially our littles).

The mass media has been leading a dialogue that is extremely disempowering and has most people fearing that they have little to no control over the fate of their own lives.

And while I do agree that some things in life we cannot control and sometimes death is one of them.

You hear so much talk about crystals these days, both good and bad. Some folks swear by them, while others claim their just a lot of new age nonsense. Still, you can't help but be curious when hearing all the positive stories about them.



The truth is, many people do experience benefits from crystals. They might not be able to do all the magical things people claim, like curing major illness or making your dream man fall in love with you, but they can give you a real boost spiritually and mentally when you know what you're doing with them.



Types of Therapeutic Crystals


Healing crystals are not one size fits all. There's actually a wide variety out there, each of which is associated with specific benefits:



Obsidian


Obsidian is said to have protective qualities. If you're feeling emotionally stifled or blocked, it can also help you release some of those built up emotions to achieve a sense of clarity. The stone can be identified by its glassy black color.



Turquoise


You're probably already familiar with turquoise jewelry, which is indeed quite eye catching. However, the stone offers more than just aesthetic appeal. It's also thought to bring balance to your mind and spirit, as well as having intense healing powers.



Moonstone


Looking for a new beginning? Then moonstone is your go-to crystal. It can also quell feelings of stress and anxiety, which far too many people struggle with these days. Moonstone has a sort of earthy look, with grayish-white coloring.



Rose Quartz


Pretty pink rose quartz has a strong association with love. If you're having trouble in any type of relationship, romantic or otherwise, ruminating with some rose quartz can bring you some peace. It can also help you build up the love you have for yourself.



Amethyst


Deep purple amethyst is known for its purifying qualities. It can also help you tap into a deeper spiritual nature. Its healing power is great for dispelling those negative thoughts rattling around your mind.



Tips for Using Healing Crystals


You basically have two options when using your healing crystals. Some people swear by wearing them on their bodies for all day protection through constant contact. Of course, not everyone is comfortable wearing jewelry, especially something like crystals. In this case, just carry them with you. Put them in your purse or pocket when you're out and about.



Before your crystals can do their thing, you must program them. I know what you're thinking, programming is something you do with a computer. What you're actually doing is associating your crystal with an intention. Hold the crystal in your hand and state what you wish to get from it: improved mental health, a better love life, greater self-confidence, whatever it might be. After stating your intention, be sure to thank the universe for the gift it's about to give you.



More intensive crystal therapy may be required if you're really struggling. In this case, do a crystal ritual each morning where you lay down to meditate with crystals on different parts of your body. Place crystals over your seven chakras, or energy centers on the body: base of the spine, lower abdomen, above the navel, over the heart, base of the throat, between the eyebrows, and the crown of the head.



Make sure crystals are also placed liberally throughout your home. Not only can they heal your mind and spirit, they can also make your living space feel more positive and nurturing. If you work from home, make sure there are quite a few hanging around your work desk!



The mind is a mysterious thing, and using crystals to achieve mindfulness is not as silly as it sounds. Also, having a little faith in something kind of whimsical never hurt anyone. Why not expand your mind and give it try?

TAKE ACTION NOW FLORIDA
Florida, this is a pivotal moment in our state’s history, where we can TRULY keep Florida free, or we can perpetuate the lies sold to us, that exemptions (meaning requests for freedom) are the way out. If you must ask permission to use your freedom, you are not free; you are a slave.
Our current special session bill entitled SB 2B, “Prohibiting vaccination,” does precisely the opposite. Section 1, line 95 of the bill reads, “A private employer may not impose a COVID-19 vaccination mandate for any full-time, part-time, or contract employee without providing individual exemptions…” Another way to read that could be, “an employer can mandate the COVID-19 vaccine as long as it includes individual exemptions.” Take action now and let your legislators know, that we are still not interested in mandates and that exemptions for freedom are an attack on our basic human rights already afforded to us in the constitution.
Another key issue with the bill is that they are allowing the Florida Department of Health to create the forms for exemptions, which means they will start tracking our exemptions and our private medical data, like they already do for our children (if they have a medical or religious exemption or receive any kind of vaccination).
So our ask is simple, we want vaccine anti-discrimination language written into Florida law which protects ALL Floridians. It protects people’s freedom to choose, just as the constitution is written.
Please share this call to action with everyone you know. We must respond now, and it must be loud to sway the legislature. This is our time. Use your voice, Florida.

What Causes Diabetes & How To Prevent It

November is National Diabetes Month. Diabetes causes 1.5 million deaths per year. More than 52% of Americans have "pre-diabetes" (insulin resistance) or full-blown type II diabetes according to a recent JAMA paper. I am here to tell you, type II diabetes is not inevitable. There is so much we can do to prevent it. Avoiding diabetes is easy if one adopts the eating habits and lifestyle of the ancestrally free human.

Why does diabetes happen?

47 years ago the food pyramid was born. Since then the amount of people with diabetes has tripled.

Diabetes mellitus refers to excessive urination and sugary urine, but it is now often diagnosed in people who neither urinate excessively nor pass glucose in the urine, based on a high level of glucose in the blood.

Polyunsaturated fats, like those found in industrial vegetable oils, refined carbohydrates, and refined sugars are the best-documented cause of diabetes.

Vegetable oils are a 100 billion dollar industry. They make up 1/3 of the food supply. They're very unstable fats that oxidize in your body and produce toxic compounds known as aldehydes which:

  • Age you faster
  • Increase your risk of heart disease, diabetes and Alzheimer's
Recently, a high safflower oil diet was found to cause diabetes (Ikemoto, et al.), and obesity itself is thought to be a factor in developing diabetes. The hormone patterns associated with obesity can be seen as either cause or effect of the obesity (or both cause and effect).

In addition to safflower oil, soybean oil not only leads to obesity and diabetes, but could also promote autism, Alzheimer’s disease, anxiety, and depression.

Americans consume these oils by the ton!

What else causes diabetes?

A starch-based diet, emphasizing grains has caused people to reduce their fat and protein consumption. Starch stimulates appetite, promotes fat synthesis by stimulating insulin secretion, and sometimes increases the growth of bacteria that produce toxins. Patients are better off with a diet that prioritizes eggs, seafood, cheese, coconut oil, tropical fruits, grass-fed meat, and root vegetables.

High stress is linked to diabetes. Numerous studies implicate cortisol as a cause of both the development of obesity and diabetes, as well as exacerbation of its main biomarkers. Recently, even human studies have confirmed the role of cortisol in this condition, and some doctors are using anti-cortisol drugs such as RU486 for treating their patients. Other interventions that should be able to replicate the effects of RU486 on keeping hypercortisolemia at bay (with arguably fewer risks) include progesterone, DHEA, vitamin D, and pregnenolone. All of which either block cortisol at the receptor level and/or inhibit its synthesis.

The following has helped many of our patients that have come to us with diabetes:
  • Low carbohydrate, nutrient-dense, animal food-rich diet. Meat and eggs don't cause type 2 diabetes. They help reverse it.
  • Instead of refined sucrose, try Inositol as Myo-Inositol or IP6. It's sweet and can even stabilize blood sugar, which can enhance insulin metabolism, treat depression and diabetes, and is also important for fresh stem cells and ATP energy metabolism.
  • Get sunlight. Increased bright sunlight exposure is associated with a reduced risk for type II diabetes and heart disease by lowering blood insulin and lipid levels.

  • Exercise and movement. Glucose levels have been shown to decline after exercise.
  • Keep stress down! High cortisol is shown to be a major cause of diabetes. It's crucial the body isn't in a state of high stress all the time. Try meditation, affirmations, EVOX therapy, or Wim Hof breathing.
Are fruit and honey okay to eat?

If you purposely overeat on sugar past satiety, or you don't eat enough vitamins and minerals and b vitamins, the sugar might cause more stress on the body. However, normal amounts of tropical fruits and honey may be okay.

I eat raw honey every day. The sugar I eat is mostly from organic fruit and honey. Some studies show honey can actually lower your blood sugar. Along with fructose and glucose, honey contains hundreds of compounds: phenols, amino acids, minerals. One of the reasons honey may be protective is because fructose can actually get into the mitochondria without insulin. When it does, it can help to restore the oxidation of glucose, allowing blood glucose levels to fall as their normal uptake increases. High blood sugar is a deeper problem than just a few bites of raw honey a day. It’s consistently eating processed carbs and fake foods.

As for fruit, fructose itself is a naturally occurring substance in nature that has been part of the human diet since the beginning of humanity. High-fructose corn syrup on the other hand is an entirely different story – it is an unnatural chemically altered food. It is bad in every aspect. When fruit has fully ripened the disaccharide (double sugar molecule) sucrose is broken down easily into fructose and glucose (single sugar molecules), requiring very little digestive strength, (the same is true for raw honey and well-cooked root vegetables).

To summarize, type II diabetes is preventable by taking the right lifestyle steps. Keeping stress low, avoiding industrial vegetable oils, and prioritizing nutrient-dense foods is key to keeping blood sugar levels normal.

Insulin resistance leading to metabolic syndrome and diabetes is the root cause of virtually all chronic diseases in the Western world. Get in shape now.
