Hello Jimi,
Pre-tox (not detox) is the first step to health that is often overlooked. Our patients who pre-tox see the best results, hands down. It’s a critical component to healing chronic illness, disease prevention, and thriving health.
One of the best ways for us to pre-tox is to avoid the toxins in many of the foods we consume daily that can lead to disease and metabolic imbalance.
So here’s a small, yet powerful, step you can take to get started.
Salt, which is one of the most widely used items in the kitchen,
is also one of the most misunderstood.
Refined salt (the salt seen mostly in saltshakers) is the main reason salt has such a bad reputation. It contains the same things you find in processed foods including a preservative called sodium acetate which can cause elevated blood pressure and kidney disturbances. It also often contains anti-caking agents, some of which have been linked to heavy metal toxicity.
If you cook with salt (or use salt in any way), whether it is refined, iodized, kosher, or commercial sea salt there's a 90% chance you may have fed your family -- and yourself -- microplastic.
According to National Geographic, Greenpeace conducted a study testing 39 salts from 16 different countries (including sea salt, rock salts, and lake salt) and discovered that as many as 1,679 microplastic particles were in each kilogram of salt.
You may be thinking, ok, so I’ll just lower my salt intake or throw it out. You will want to re-think that.
>> Your body needs salt (but the right kind).
Natural, unrefined sea salt provides a number of nutrients and minerals, in a way that the body recognizes and knows how to use. Over 80 trace minerals found in the naturally filtered saltwater used to create unrefined sea salt give it its vital grayish color, and its slight moistness keeps the salt and minerals in a form that the body can use.
It helps to balance your blood sugar, helps keep your bones strong, regulates your metabolism, boosts your immune system, and so much more.
We found an incredible unrefined salt that we love called Colima Sea Salt from Ava Jane's Kitchen.
It is tested by NutriData, an independent American lab, and it has ZERO microplastics. It’s also loaded with 80 essential minerals and nutrients that your body knows how to consume and use.
Colima Sea Salt is also free of cadmium, arsenic, and mercury and is rich in magnesium (A mineral that two-thirds of Americans are deficient in, contributing to various health conditions).
We hope that you find these recommendations helpful to support you in your health and wellness journey.
