It's Thursday here in Lansing, Michigan and looks to be a bright sunny day.

On the heels of two great interviews yesterday, I was supposed to have another interview today for my upcoming Everyday Solutions for Living a Long HEALTHY Life Summit.

But, he had to reschedule because of "life stuff." No biggie... I'm sure I'll find something else to do;-)

Like getting ready for my next virtual BYOG Party on July 11th which will be all about how to eat in a healthy, simple, sustainable way. (You can get the details here if you're interested.)

Before I prep for that, let's address a topic that arose in both interviews yesterday:

Sticking with your fitness and/or nutrition when life gets in the way.

Former heavyweight boxing champ Mike Tyson has a famous quote... "Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth."

And it can feel like life most definitely punches us in the mouth sometimes.

Because we know 'life' will happen, what do you do to stay on track (or get back on track)?

Here are three simple tools to help navigate you through life stuff - BEFORE life happens - and stick to the plan as best you can:

(1) Small Changes

Accept that trying to change everything all at once is a recipe for quitting especially when life-hits-the-fan. To create a habit so that when life happens, wrap your mind around small changes now.

Instead of saying you're going to workout for an hour everyday, how about you start with 5 minutes if exercising is not part of your life yet.

Instead of throwing out all of your junk food, how about one or two items and replace them with a fruit or vegetable.

(Oh yeah... and make sure you count all of these small changes as WINS!)

(2) Create Menus

This does not just apply to food, meals, or go-to healthy snacks (which I absolutely encourage you to do).

And, you can also create a "Movement Menu" of various exercises and activities (especially your favorite ones).

It could include walking the dog, gardening, playing your favorite sport, calisthenics, biking, swimming... and whatever movements, exercises, or activities you want.

(3) Schedule and Prep

Now that you've accepted that small changes are wins...

You have a menu of your go-to foods and movements...

Now simply schedule it for the week.

And if life punches you in the mouth, you'll be more prepared to roll with it.


You see, when you're under "attack" with life stuff, the last thing your brain wants to do is use more of its valuable energy to come up with solutions.

Make it as easy and simple as possible to stay consistent, stay on track...

And Be Your Own Guarantee for your health and life.

Stress Increases Heart Attack Risk

Heart attacks are caused by atherosclerosis, the disease process that causes fatty deposits to form inside the walls of the heart’s coronary arteries, narrowing them, and eventually causing an area to rupture, blocking the heart and shutting off blood flow.

In recent years, scientists have come to realize that bodily inflammation may be the trigger that sets this process into motion. They also knew that stress likely contributes to this scenario in some way. But have been uncertain of how this happens. Now, a study offers an explanation.

For this study, University of Pittsburgh researchers asked 157 healthy adults to regulate their emotional reactions while viewing unpleasant pictures. The researchers measured their brain activity with functional imaging, and also scanned their arteries to measure levels of inflammation in their bloodstream.

The people who showed greater brain activation when viewing the pictures also had higher levels of interleukin 6, a chemical that causes inflammation circulating in their bloodstream. In addition, they showed increased thickness of the carotid artery wall, a marker of atherosclerosis.

Both of these factors are indicators of heart disease risk, and show the importance of reducing stress in your life.

What is PEMF?​

PEMF is a wellness modality that utilizes soothing pulsed electromagnetic fields. It is also known as low field magnetic stimulation (LFMS).
PEMF machines apply focused pulsing magnetic stimulation to the body at the cellular level. There is a protocol and strategy for placement of stimulation.

What’s the history?​

PEMF has been studied scientifically for over 100 years. In 1932, research was carried out at Yale Medical University. It was discovered that reduced levels of electrical energy within the body is one of the main reasons for feeling unwell.
There have been many animal studies, but also double-blind clinical trials, as well.

Is food addiction real?

Here’s a video of Chef AJ sharing her story (and it's quite an emotional roller coaster).

From my perspective there are two reasons why this is question is so hotly debated:

  1. You have to eat something
  2. What feels like an “addictive food” for some, poses no challenge to others
So the question of whether food addiction is real is very personal. Chef AJ says it exists on a continuum and shares 5 questions you can ask yourself to get a feeling of where you land.

That said, according to Harvard’s School Of Public Health hyper-palatable foods and drugs:

  • Both activate the same pathways triggering dopamine signals and the reward-learning regions in the brain.
  • Both can lead to a need to use increasing amounts over time due to tolerance, which is caused by changes in brain signaling.
  • Both are associated with difficulty in quitting due to a hyperactive response in the brain reward regions when the substance or food is present.
  • Both can produce negative withdrawal symptoms when stopping.
So if you’ve ever felt out of control, chances are you’re biologically more susceptible to these effects than others…

Well it's the last day of National Cancer Survivor Month and I hope you've enjoyed all of the holistic survivor story clips I've been sharing on Facebook and Instagram in June.
My final survivor story to share this month is a new interview with Georges Cordoba.
Georges Cordoba is a long-term stage IV melanoma survivor. He was diagnosed in 2002 and after eight years and with eight tumors in his brain, Georges quit conventional treatment and decided to make drastic changes to his diet and lifestyle.
A year and a half later he was cancer-free.
In our interview, Georges shares his journey and the natural strategies he used to restore his health. Enjoy!

On June 28, 2022, FDA’s Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee (VRBPAC) met to vote on COVID strain replacement in the shots. Stand for Health Freedom was selected to make oral public comment at the meeting. We took this opportunity to remind the federal government of American’s fundamental right to informed consent in medical decisions. This right does not disappear when a pandemic is declared. How are you doing with the summer temperatures Jim?

When you are dealing with Hashimoto’s and thyroid issues, it's very likely you may be sensitive to temperatures. While it's very common to have more cold intolerance when you have an underactive thyroid, with Hashimoto’s it can often be both, less tolerance to cold but also to the heat.

I, myself, am one of those people who feels cold most of the time and in the summer, when my husband cranks up the air conditioning, especially at night, I am always putting on an extra sweatshirt. And, frankly I think there is nothing is worse than crawling into a cold bed when you are already cold.

So, you know what I do? I'm not even going to make you guess, but straight-up share my tip:

I blow dry my bed. I just turn the blow dryer on high, open the covers and stick it in there for a few minutes and move it all around so it gets the whole side of my bed.

YUP! It is then super nice and toasty! LOL.

If you get HOT on the other hand (this can also often happen with Hashimoto’s)... I have a tip for you as well! :))

You know how you can just stick your foot out of the covers when you are hot while sleeping without even thinking about it? The reason it works is that our extremities can help regulate temperature quicker than other areas of the body.

So when in a pinch, wash your feet in cold water or if you are working at your desk or sitting down at home and can’t seem to cool off, just submerge your feet in a bowl of cold water and you will cool right off.

Simple ways to help regulate your temperatures ! :)
