Dear Fellow Body of Water,

Your Beloved Body does its most powerful cleansing at night. This just makes sense. Sanitation takes a clear-the-decks kind of energy and while you sleep, as daily activity is suspended, your body can clean out, toss out, and flush away all that waste and detritus. As reported on The HighWire last week, there has been an alarming spike in reported cases of Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) in children. This influenza-like virus can be particularly dangerous in very young children and it typically rises in the winter months. What makes the current spike particularly alarming is that it is occurring off-season.

On The HighWire episode, Del did a deep dive on the issue, observing that in the clinical trial for Moderna’s pediatric Covid-19 vaccine, the children who received the vaccine experienced higher rates of RSV than those receiving the placebo. Similarly, in Pfizer’s pediatric Covid-19 vaccine trial, RSV was listed as one the serious adverse events among children receiving this vaccine.

The issue is so serious that even the FDA’s vaccine committee, VRBPAC, which normally cheerleads even the most dangerous vaccine, noted the correlation and “stressed the importance of continued post-authorization safety surveillance, in particular for … certain respiratory infections (RSV and pneumonia) in the youngest age group, for which imbalances of uncertain clinical significance were observed in the clinical trial.”

Despite the noted importance of surveilling RSV post-authorization, no one at CDC or FDA seems to be drawing a connection between the increase in RSV and the Covid-19 vaccines being administered to children. Incredibly, the CDC just issued an “Official Health Advisory” about the increase RSV and respiratory virus cases and, in it, the CDC recommends all individuals 6 months and up receive an influenza vaccine and a Covid-19 vaccine!

Not surprisingly, the press has missed the mark, too. While there are numerous articles detailing the troubling increase in sick children, none reference Covid-19 vaccination despite the data from the manufacturers’ trials.

To get to the bottom of this, on October 26, 2022, ICAN’s attorneys sent a letter to the CDC observing the clinical trial data showing a correlation between increased RSV cases and receipt of a Covid-19 vaccine. ICAN’s letter demanded to know the percentage of children who tested positive for RSV and who had received a Covid-19 vaccine prior to their RSV diagnosis.

High blood pressure, or hypertension, affects about 33% of Americans — almost 78 million people.

If that stat seems staggering, consider athletes in the National Football League: 91% of the largest players have high blood pressure or prehypertension, and 78% of the smallest do.

We know you want to take control of your blood pressure, and the NFL for sure wants to protect its players from strokes and heart attacks that it can trigger.

With the multiple recalls of antihypertensive medications, there’s no time like the present to focus on lifestyle adjustments to prevent or control high blood pressure.

But we don’t want to pressure you about your blood pressure. In fact, we just want you to take a nap.

Research presented at the American College of Cardiology’s 68th Annual Scientific Session found that a daily siesta (average length 49 minutes) lowers blood pressure just as well as reducing salt and alcohol intake do.

And it works almost as well as taking low-dose antihypertensive medications.

The nappers (average age 62) saw their top number go down 5 mmHg. (Your targets: 120 mmHg over 75 mmHg.)

That reduction matters, they explain, because “a drop in blood pressure as small as 2 mmHg can reduce the risk of cardiovascular events such as heart attack by up to 10%.”

So, don’t let anyone nag you about napping. Tell them it’s a heart-healthy habit that will extend and increase your productivity.

Study: Eggs Safe for Diabetics

People who are prediabetic or diabetic can eat up to 12 eggs a week and not increase their risk of cardiovascular disease, according to a study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

Researchers at the University of Sydney sought to clear up conflicting dietary advice about eating eggs: Does it or doesn't it increase cardiovascular disease?

They discovered that at the end of three months, six months, and 12 months, there was no difference in cardiovascular risk markers between people who ate a low-egg diet (less than two eggs a week) and those who ate a high-egg diet (12 eggs a week), even for those who were diagnosed with diabetes or prediabetes.

The study tracked a wide range of cardiovascular risk factors including blood sugar, blood pressure, and cholesterol, and found no significant difference between the two groups.

"While eggs themselves are high in dietary cholesterol — and people with Type 2 diabetes tend to have higher levels of the LDL cholesterol — this study supports existing research that shows consumption of eggs has little effect on the levels of cholesterol in the blood of the people eating them," said researcher Nick Fuller, Ph.D.

Eggs got a bad rap in the 1970s because of their high cholesterol levels, which doctors assumed would automatically increase the risk of heart disease. Recent research, however, indicates that cholesterol's effect on health is much more complicated, and that some cholesterol is harmless and even healthy.

Natural foods contain many healthy vitamins, minerals, and enzymes. However, over time, those substances can degrade. Manufactured foods are made with refined sugar, salt, flour, and oil.

The refining process removes those healthy vitamins, minerals, and enzymes, leaving a food product that is devitalized.

Why would manufacturers refine foods? Because foods that are refined can sit on the shelf for a very long time without spoiling. This longer shelf life ensures a higher profit margin.

The purpose of eating is to supply the body with raw materials in order to fuel the natural processes of life. The enzymes, vitamins, and minerals found in natural foods provide the body with that fuel and can also be broken down and stored for later use.

A devitalized food source does not provide that fuel. Instead, the body must use up its stores of nutrients to fuel itself. That’s why eating a predominately devitalized diet will result in multiple nutritional deficiencies.

Over the last 20 years, I have been checking my patients for nutritional imbalances. I can assure you that the vast majority of patients, both sick and well, have nutritional deficiencies. Generally, the more ill a person is, the more nutritional deficiencies they have.

How can you change this cycle? Eat a healthy diet that supplies the body with the raw materials it needs to function optimally.

Avoid any food made with refined flour, sugar, salt, or oil. Your best bet is to eat whole foods that contain Mother Nature’s own nutrients. This includes organic food sources that have not been contaminated with pesticides and synthetic hormones. Organic fruits and vegetables along with free-range animal products such as eggs, meat, and butter are good choices.

Fish can be a wonderful source of nutrients if it is wild-caught. Avoid farm-raised fish, as it contains suboptimal fatty acid levels and can contain toxic substances.

In this edition of the podcast, we explore “grief eating,” which can manifest in a variety of unwanted eating habits in response to unresolved grief.

This week’s coaching client is Noelle, 58, who recently lost her mother after a three year journey being her primary caregiver. During that time, Noelle started binge eating and ended up gaining about 30 pounds.

Heartbroken over her mother, Noelle has realized the impact her grief has had on her relationship with food, and the comfort and solace she has derived from eating over the last few years. While she gives herself the time and space to grieve her mother, Noelle is feeling ready to let go of binge eating for good and create a healthier, and more nourishing relationship with food.

As we know, Noelle’s response to unrelenting grief is very common. So many of us turn to food when we’ve experienced loss – that’s a completely normal and natural way to regulate our emotions, even if we know it’s ultimately not the healthiest response.

As this session highlights, a big part of the solution to “grief eating” is first having empathy and compassion for ourselves. As Marc shares with Noelle, by bringing self-love to the table, we take the first step to unwinding our eating challenges.

Factory fish farms cram thousands of fish into tiny areas, releasing pesticides, animal waste, antibiotics, and excess feed into nearby waters. These poisons destroy our oceans, decimating wild fish populations and the habitats of endangered animals like sharks and sea turtles.

Despite this destruction, the Trump administration issued a nationwide permit authorizing finfish aquaculture activity, effectively greenlighting factory fish farms across the country!
