Routine fasting may reduce the risk of heart failure and death in patients who have cardiac catheterization, a study suggests. It included more than 2,000 patients who had cardiac catheterization between 2013 and 2015. They were followed for 4.5 years afterward.

Those who fasted regularly had a higher survival rate during follow-up than those who did not, according to researchers at Intermountain Medical Center Heart Institute in Salt Lake City, Utah. Fasting was a strong predictor of survival and lower risk of heart failure even after lifestyle behaviors, medications, heart risk factors, and other health problems were taken into account.

Intermittent fasting is a diet method where one skips food or limits calories for up to 24 hours, or limits the time spent eating during the day, such as from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. While the study only found an association and does not prove fasting improves survival, the researchers said the findings do suggest that routinely not eating and drinking for short periods may have an effect and warrant further study.

They noted that fasting affects a person’s red blood cell count, as well as levels of hemoglobin and human growth hormone. It also lowers sodium and bicarbonate levels and activates metabolic processes that contribute to better heart health.

They pointed out, however, that fasting is not for everyone. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not fast, nor should young children or frail older adults.

Fasting is also not an option for organ transplant recipients, people with a suppressed immune system, those with chronic diseases, and those with eating disorders.

Those who take medications for diabetes, blood pressure, or heart disease should only fast under a doctor’s supervision, the researchers added.

Sweet Potato Breakfast Scramble
(full recipe in this email below)
Ingredients:
  • 1 medium sweet potato peeled and cubed
  • 1 large green pepper remove stem and seeds and diced
  • 2 green onions chopped
  • 1/4 cup tofu, extra firm crumbled
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp curry powder
  • 2 cups kale chopped
  • 1/2 mango cut into strips
Directions:
  1. Preheat the oven to Bake at 400 degrees F and prepare a baking sheet lined with parchment or silicone mat.
  2. Peel and rice sweet potato. Place on the baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes or until soft.
  3. Remove the stem and seed of the green pepper and dice. Dice the green onion.
  4. In a pan, heat the vegetable broth on medium heat. Add the sweet potatoes, green pepper, onion, and spices. Cook for 5 minutes.
  5. Add the crumbled tofu and kale. Mix well. Cook for 3 to 5 minutes.
  6. Serve with mango strips.

Chronic illness is all about the individual patient - there is nothing “cookie-cutter” about it. There are many underlying diagnostics… so many known and yet to be understood causes of what keeps our patients ill.

After 3 years of treating post COVID patients, we know that Long Haul Syndrome is only the tip of the iceberg. There is so much more underneath that needs to be explored, diagnosed, and treated in order to allow patients to return to health. This can feel overwhelming for both doctor and patient.

Our inspiration and reason for doing this summit was to continue to expose you to what is new in this health landscape and still evolving.

It is human nature to seek a single explanation for life’s events. This approach works well when we are dealing with physical trauma or sometimes acute bacterial or viral illness. However, it may have little bearing once an illness has persisted for more than 3 to 6 months.

The totality of your immune response is what sustains your chronic illness.

Your present symptoms are no longer directly related to the inciting causes. It is now time to evaluate and assign relative weights to the different issues:

  • Is your problem 10% Long Haul Syndrome and 90% other hidden infections?
  • Is it 30% Mast Cell Activation and 10% poor detox, and 10% viral activation?
  • What are the layers contributing to your illness and which one needs to be addressed first for you?
  • What is the outermost layer of the onion for you?

It is now about the multiplicity of how your body responds - this depends on your body’s ability to send blood flow in the right amounts into the right places, to have the lymph drainage flowing properly, and to have your gut and your liver functioning optimally.

For many people, it is no longer an issue of removing yourself from the toxic exposure and returning to health. Oftentimes COVID may expose an underlying imbalance in your immune system, your inability to detoxify, or perhaps it totally upsets the balance in your microbiome.

Any and all of these continue to ripple through and interact with the physical and energetic field that is your body…and ultimately are expressed in the complexity of our immune response.​

2 Servings of Fruit Lower Diabetes Risk

An Australian study suggests that two servings of whole fruit a day could lower the odds of developing Type 2 diabetes by 36%, according to Nicola Bondonno of the Institute for Nutrition Research at Edith Cowan University in Joondalup, Australia.

Bondonno’s team analyzed data from nearly 7,700 Australians in order to assess the link between consumption of fruit and fruit juice with diabetes cases over five years.

People who ate at least two servings of fruit a day had higher measures of insulin sensitivity than those who ate less than half a serving a day. Insulin sensitivity is key to the body's ability to use glucose for energy to perform bodily functions and store it for future use. But drinking fruit juice did not boost insulin sensitivity or reduce diabetes risk.

Bondonno said that's probably because juice tends to be much higher in sugar and lower in fiber. She noted most fruits typically have a low glycemic index, meaning their sugar is digested and absorbed into the body more slowly.

A devotion to your health means much more than the food that you eat and the workouts that you do. Overall health means focusing on your mental health. It’s a major factor to your overall health, arguably the most important. Below, we’ll explore how to care for your mental health by engaging in a creative hobby.

Creativity, and How It Affects Our Mind

Creativity, as a mental health tool, can be extremely effective. There’s a sort of rush you get from finishing a creative project, unparalleled by any other sort of work. Not only is there a rush from the finished product, but the flow state you achieve from the extreme focus given by the work itself is rewarding. In fact, these creative gifts are so wonderful that many people choose to lead their careers in a creative field in order to continuously be rewarded by creativity. People in the creative field tend to have more fulfillment by their work, a sense of meaning in what they do and overall happiness.
But why do we get that rush? And how come engaging in the creative process is so rewarding? Well for one, creativity can be an outlet for self-expression. With many people, most of their time is spent working in an environment that restricts self-expression, thus their creativity and sense-of-self are restricted. By engaging in a creative hobby, you can finally find a release for your self-expression.
Another reason why creativity is rewarding is because it’s hard. Not in the sense that running a triathlon is hard, but the entire process from ideation to creation is a difficult road filled with self-doubt and misery. But these are the very reasons why creativity is worth it, because despite all the reasons not to create, creatives still do. In a bout of defiance, you defy your own self-doubts and get to work creating.
Creativity also demands a lot, forcing the you to use all of their experiences and knowledge in order to create something new. This is why the best creatives are intentional in what they consume and thus consume a lot. This is because everything is and will be inspiration for creatives, they are a sort of hoarder of ideas and themes.

Implementing Creativity

You don’t have to be Picasso in order to weave creativity into your every-day life. A few creative hobbies include (but aren’t restricted to): cooking, writing, videography, photography, music, drawing or painting. Now, these are all activities devoted to creativity and are awesome hobbies to pick up but there is a lot of creative space in your life that can be filled up…
You can get creative with your workouts or regular running/biking route by intentionally choosing a different route or forcing yourself to stick to a certain pace for the whole workout. By challenging yourself to be creative, you’ll start to feel more fulfillment and a general aura of happiness that surrounds you in everything that you do. It’s that same feeling you get after a really good workout, a feeling of accomplishment because you’ve just done something that was really challenging.
So, we urge you all to get out there and get creative. Don’t be afraid to mix things up, to challenge old notions and most importantly, to challenge yourself. To engage in creativity is a sort of dare to yourself, challenging yourself to change old ideas into new and to create.

ALLOPATHIC TREATMENT OF FIBROCYSTIC BREASTS

  • Given how common fibrocystic breasts are, medical professionals have stopped labeling the condition as a “disease.”
  • There is no treatment if the symptoms are mild to medium.
  • If the symptoms are severe, in the case of cysts, a fine-needle drainage is performed.
  • Over-the-counter pain relievers, such as acetaminophen (Tylenol, others) or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin IB, others), or prescription medication are often recommended.
  • Oral contraceptives, especially progestin, are often recommended to even out the levels of cycle-related hormones linked to fibrocystic breast changes.
  • Diuretics are sometimes recommended to reduce water content in the cells.
PROBLEM: None of these recommendations actually resolve breast issues in the long run.​

ALTERNATIVE APPROACHES TO FIBROCYSTIC BREASTS​

Ways to keep the "sisters" happy and healthy:​

Natural Health Tip:





nsulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) is a growth hormone that promotes cancer cell replication.
Plant protein keeps IGF-1 in a healthy range and prevents it from becoming too high. Whereas excessive quantities of animal protein cause IGF-1 levels to rise.
Even if you eat high-quality animal products and prepared them properly, you'd still push IGF-1 unless you are having extremely modest amounts.

Today I wanted to bring you some useful info on an all-too-common infection I see in my practice: H. pylori.

H. pylori (Helicobacter pylori) infection is a bacterial infection affecting the stomach lining. This bacterium is commonly found in the digestive tract and is estimated to infect nearly half of the world’s population(!!!)

You should suspect H. pylori infection if you are experiencing symptoms such as:

Abdominal pain or discomfort, especially in the upper abdomen
Bloating
Nausea
Loss of appetite
Vomiting
Burping or acid reflux
Dark or black stools (a sign of bleeding in the digestive tract)
