Short, Intense Exercise Increases Muscle Mass

After learning that he was prediabetic, actor and comedian Alec Baldwin started a strict weight-loss plan. With the help of his wife Hilaria, Baldwin cut out most sugar and undertook a daily exercise regimen that included spin classes and Pilates.

He also took up weight-bearing exercise by lifting his young son, Rafael, up and down until he broke a sweat.

Research suggests the actor was onto something. One study highlighted the positive health effects of a short-duration, high-intensity resistance exercise training program in overweight men.

And that's most men. Statistics show that more than 73 percent of U.S. males are overweight or obese.

The study, published in the journal Experimental Physiology, had men undergo a six-week training program that consisted of three 15-minute exercise sessions weekly. Each training session included one set of nine standard resistance exercises, such as leg presses and bicep curls — enough to leave participants fully spent.

The researchers found that these short bouts of tough exercise were as effective for increasing muscle mass and function as 45-minute resistance workouts. The exercise also improved insulin sensitivity, which is important for battling prediabetes and diabetes, by 16 percent.

If you're trying to manage diabetes and shed a few pounds, consider doing 15 minutes with weights and/or stretch bands three times weekly. Start with two- to five-pound hand weights, or grab two cans from your pantry — then you can work up to lifting a nearby toddler.

Benefits, Sources, and Types of Magnesium

An extreme magnesium deficiency can cause serious health concerns like tingling, numbness, muscle cramps, seizures, personality changes, and an abnormal heart rhythm. But a more minor deficiency, also sometimes referred to as a subclinical deficiency, can be much harder to detect and have much less obvious effects.

Subclinical deficiencies can be so challenging to detect and diagnose because magnesium in your bloodstream does not necessarily reflect adequate levels within your cells. Just some of the consequences that have been linked to suboptimal magnesium levels include:

What is SIBO? Causes and Symptoms of SIBO.

Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth, more commonly referred to as SIBO, occurs when you have an overgrowth of bacteria residing in your small intestine. While your digestive tract is indeed designed to house trillions of different microbes that collectively make up your gut microbiome, the majority of these microbes are meant to live in your large intestine and colon.

In a healthy balanced small intestine, you’ll typically find small populations of gram-positive bacteria. These are species of bacteria that have a cell wall and are generally considered “good” or friendly bacteria. But in SIBO, there’s a shift from a small population of gram-positive bacteria, to an excessive overgrowth of gram-negative bacteria.

Gram-negative bacteria are species of bacteria that only have a cell membrane and no cellular wall. And these gram-negative bacteria contain compounds known as lipopolysaccharides or LPS – a potent inflammation-promoting toxin. Now let’s take a look at some of the symptoms that can be triggered when bacterial populations begin overgrowing in your small intestine...

The myth of being cancer free
Hi,
I was shocked and disappointed but not surprised. After 9 years, my blood tests and scans told me the cancer was back.
I neglected to practice the self-care I preached about and kept pushing my body despite all the messages it was giving me. That was August of 2015.
I worked really hard for 3 years, dug even deeper into the 7 Essentials System® and now all is well. I am pretty confident that I broke the code on breast cancer recurrence, women’s biggest fear.

How I Accidentally Survived Terminal Cancer w/ Dr. Nasha Winters

Healing is Voltage
You're in for a treat with this week's Cancer Conversation. Most of us have no idea about the strong connection between the voltage in our bodies and illness and cancer.

Did you know that when we use our muscles, we are generating electricity & voltage? The electric current that is generated flows in a circuit through the fascial planes (meridians) in our bodies and supply energy to each of our organs which are contained within specific circuits that require voltage to function. The electrons in this elevated current are then transferred to individual cell membranes and charge each cell by participating in ATP production (voltage).

If oxygen is lacking, there will not be enough electrons to charge the battery systems in our cells. This simplistic explanation will be brought to light more thoroughly for each of us in this Cancer Conversation and reveal the important connection between voltage and health.

A stroke happens when something blocks blood supply to part of the brain or when a blood vessel in the brain bursts. A stroke can cause lasting brain damage, long-term disability, or death.

Anyone at any age can have a stroke, but certain things can increase your chances of having one, including obesity, eating a diet high in saturated fats, trans fats, and cholesterol, not getting enough physical activity, drinking too much alcohol, and using tobacco. And stroke risk can be higher in some families due to genetic factors or family history.
