I’ve talked about this offhand before, Jimi, but it deserves a mini deep dive.
If you notice on the supplements section on our site, out of the thousands upon thousands of probiotic products out there to choose from…
there’s a very small handful which we’re comfortable taking for ourselves, and therefore sharing with you.
That’s a shame, because you know we like rotating through various products within the primary categories to be focusing on, and that goes double for probiotics, where the name of the game is diversity, so it’s a good thing to mix it up.
That’s not to say that ANY probiotic product not currently on that list is bad, but it does mean that I personally have not been able to verify that it doesn’t contain genetically modified bacteria.
That’s right, they weren’t happy just messing with the God-given design of food; they’ve moved on to using CRISPR gene editing in the bacteria for probiotics, kombucha, and even what goes into the soils for growing the food.
The most concerning aspect of this, from a health perspective, is knowing that “horizontal gene transfer” is a thing.
That’s the well-studied ability of things like bacteria, viruses, and fungi to transfer genetic traits into other organisms, including those of their hosts.
Now, this isn’t of great concern in an entirely natural setting, particularly in the context of a well-balanced microbiome with naturally occurring bacteria in there, as that’s just part of the design.
But the thought of a genetically modified bacteria inside of any member of my family, with the capability of transferring those modified genes to us… that’s a big no.
The environmental implications of this are also really disturbing. As I mentioned, they’re rolling this out for soil amendments, and I hope someone in a position to do something about it takes note of this…
but in the meantime, as far as what we have control over ourselves, any product with anything to do with probiotics, that I can’t verify 100% has not been modified, is a hard pass for us.
Which isn’t easy! Most people are under the impression that when you buy a probiotic product from a company, it’s that company actually making the probiotic.
Not the case. There are massive probiotic manufacturers that these companies buy from, put their label on the bottle, and sell as their own.
And when I ask the owners of probiotic companies whether or not they’re sourcing non-GMO bacteria, nine times out of ten, they have no idea, and didn’t even know that was “a thing.”
“Billie G” is invested in most of these manufacturers, by the way.
There are even hundreds of smaller “manufacturers” that are subsidiaries of these larger manufacturers, but you’d never know just from trying to look at company websites.
Sadly, most companies selling probiotics I reach out to and ask about this have no clue this is even a thing, and aren’t very interested in finding out what’s in the product they’re selling.
HOWEVER, this week’s webinar is with an amazing woman, Natasha Trenev, whose amazing company, Natren, actually DOES make its OWN probiotics and has been doing it for over three decades…
beyond that, Natasha is known as the Mother of Probiotics because she literally coined the term probiotics…
and beyond that, her family goes back 750 years making Bulgarian yogurt, and we have them to thank for enjoying it today in the States.
This lady knows a whole lot about probiotics, in other words.
And outside of the genetic modification thing, she’s got a long list of what’s wrong with the industry she started as it stands today, and she’s going to tell us all about it on the webinar!!
This is going to be HIGHLY educational and, in my opinion, at least critical knowledge for knowing what to look for and what to avoid…
not to mention the ONLY reason she’s even still doing this, as she's been getting on in years (though you wouldn’t know it from looking at her), is literally to save humanity, that’s how serious she is about what she does…
so you should REALLY sign up to attend + ask questions live / catch the replay / get the webinar only deal here.
