Focusing on Chronic Disease

On this week's episode of With the Wind, Dr. Paul is joined by Liz Mumper, M.D., a pediatrician with 45 years of clinical experience, founder of the Rimland Center for Integrative Medicine, and a leading educator of clinicians through MAPS Medical Academy and Pediatric Special Needs. Dr. Mumper and Dr. Paul take a broad look at the dramatic rise of chronic illness in children — what's driving it, what the clinical record shows, and what families can do to protect their children's health.
Over the course of their conversation, Dr. Mumper draws on decades of patient care to examine the forces reshaping childhood health — from the surge in autism, diabetes, and autoimmune conditions to the role of environmental toxins, diet, and medical decision-making. The discussion is grounded in clinical observation and framed for parents who want to understand what has changed and why it matters.

"I can't think of an example where the unvaccinated child was not the healthier sibling. They typically did not develop these chronic illnesses that we're talking about in terms of eczema and asthma and autism." — Liz Mumper, M.D.

In This Episode, Dr. Mumper Shares:

  • The shift from acute to chronic illness in pediatrics over the past three decades — and what the numbers on autism, diabetes, and autoimmune conditions actually show
  • Pre-conception and early childhood preparation: nutrition, toxin reduction, and key supplementation benchmarks including optimal vitamin D levels
  • Clinical concerns about vaccine administration during pregnancy and infancy, and what patient chart reviews revealed about health outcomes in vaccinated versus unvaccinated siblings
  • Environmental toxin reduction: practical guidance on lead, mold, pesticides, diet, and ultra-processed foods Why acetaminophen deserves more caution than it typically receives — and its effect on the body's primary antioxidant defense system

Hello ,

Can we talk about carbs for a minute?

I know, for so many of us, that one little word brings up years of confusion and fear.

But here is the truth. Your hormones love the right kind of carbohydrates. And sweet potatoes are at the top of my list.

Here is why I love them so much:

💛 They steady your blood sugar — the natural starch breaks down slowly, which keeps your energy even and your cortisol calm.

💛 They feed your adrenals — sweet potatoes are rich in vitamin C and B vitamins, two nutrients your stressed-out adrenals need to keep up.

💛 They support progesterone — beta-carotene helps your body make this calming, balancing hormone we all need more of.

💛 They keep you satisfied — paired with healthy protein and fat, they leave you full, calm and steady for hours.

Some mornings call for a smoothie and some mornings call for something
hearty.

These Sweet Potato Breakfast Boats are exactly that, healthy protein, fats and carbohydrates all in one. Bake the potatoes ahead and breakfast comes together easily.

Sprouts are a powerhouse for hormone balance
Sweet Potato Breakfast Boats
Makes 2 servings

Ingredients:

  • 2 medium sweet potatoes, scrubbed and pierced with a fork
  • 1/2 lb ground chicken (ground pork or ground turkey work beautifully too)
  • 4 large collard leaves, chopped
  • 1/4 cup minced white onion
  • 2 tbsp avocado oil, plus extra for drizzling
  • Juice of 1/2 a lemon
  • 4 pasture-raised eggs (optional — omit if you don't tolerate eggs)
  • 1 tbsp ghee
  • 1/2 tsp dried sage
  • 1/4 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • Sea salt and black pepper to taste (optional)

Directions:
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Drizzle the sweet potatoes with avocado oil and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake for about 1 hour, until very soft. (Tip: bake these ahead and keep them in the fridge for an easy breakfast.)
  2. While the potatoes bake, warm 1 tablespoon of avocado oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the ground chicken, sage, thyme, garlic, and a pinch of salt. Cook for 6 to 8 minutes, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, until cooked through and lightly golden. Transfer to a bowl and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of avocado oil. Add the chopped collards and onion with a pinch of salt and pepper. Cook until the collards are wilted and bright green, about 3 to 4 minutes. Squeeze the lemon juice over the top and set aside.
  4. Wipe the skillet clean and add the ghee over medium-low heat. Whisk the eggs with a pinch of salt and pepper, then pour into the skillet. Cook gently, scrambled-style, until just set.
  5. Slice each warm sweet potato open lengthwise. Load with collard greens, then ground chicken, then scrambled eggs. Serve right away.

I'd love to know how you make these your own! Reply and tell me. 💛

Love,

Robin xo

National Walking Month starts today, so here's a thought to take with you: walking might be the most underrated thing you can do for your wellbeing.

We tend to think of exercise as something that has to feel hard to be worth it - that if you're not sweating or gasping, it doesn't really count. But putting one foot in front of the other does more for your body AND your mind than almost anything else you'll do today.

For your body, regular walking strengthens your heart, lowers blood pressure, supports healthy weight, builds bone density, improves sleep, and reduces the risk of so many chronic conditions - all without a gym, equipment, or any real cost to you.

For your mind, the effects are just as powerful, and we don't talk about them nearly enough.

Walking lowers your stress hormones, lifts your mood, sharpens your focus, and breaks the cycle of repetitive, anxious thoughts that so many of us get caught in. There's a reason so many of life's best ideas arrive mid-walk.

Movement, quite literally, changes the way your mind works.

So with that in mind, here are 5 ways to get the most out of National Walking Month - for your body and your mind:

  • The small steps matter
Let go of the all-or-nothing mindset. Five minutes pacing in your garden or a quick lap on a call - every bit counts. Even short, frequent walks lift your mood, ease tension, and get your blood moving. Each step, however small, is doing something good for you.

  • Walk for how it makes you feel, not how it looks
Forget step counts and milestones for a moment. Treat each walk as a private check-in - notice your breath, your shoulders, the tension you came in carrying. By the end of even a 10-minute walk, you'll usually feel lighter than when you started.

  • Tune in to your surroundings
Make each walk an exploration. Actively notice colors, sounds, the feel of the ground beneath your feet, the air on your skin. This kind of mindful attention calms your nervous system and grounds you in the present.

  • Use walking to break mental patterns
Feeling stuck, anxious, or caught in your own head? Step outside. Walking is one of the most effective ways to interrupt those repetitive thought spirals. The combination of movement and a change of scenery clears your mind, shifts your mood, and often delivers the answer to whatever you've been wrestling with.

  • Treat movement as medicine On busy or difficult days, remind yourself what you're really doing when you walk. You're caring for your heart. Improving tonight's sleep. Lowering tomorrow's stress. Giving your mind room to breathe. With repetition, walking stops feeling like a task and starts feeling like one of the most generous things you can do for yourself.
As you walk into this new month, let each step remind you that you're caring for two of the most important things you have - your body and your mind - at the same time.

Hey Jimi,

Most people assume that moving slower… feeling stiffer… and avoiding activities they once loved…

Is just a normal part of getting older.

But here's what most people are never told:

That's not aging. That's movement debt.

Decades of sitting at desks, driving, and repetitive patterns that slowly switch your muscles off.

The good news is… it doesn’t have to stay this way.

And you don't need expensive treatments… dangerous procedures…

Or hours in the gym to turn back the clock.

World-renowned movement expert, Robbie Stahl, is hosting a complimentary 5-day event where he'll show you:

The three movement patterns that are aging your body faster than time itself

How to "reset" mechanical dysfunction in just minutes per day

Why stretching actually makes some problems worse

Reserve your spot and discover how to start paying off decades of movement debt… starting today.

To your health,

Jonathan Otto

P.S. Robbie has used these methods with 70-year-olds who now move better than most 40-year-olds. No gym needed… just minutes a day from home.

Hi

Can cooking with the wrong kind of cooking oil give you cancer?

According to the Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center… YES

Here are 3 reasons why cooking oils in your kitchen may be linked to cancer:

#1 - Toxic Fumes

New research from the Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center found evidence linking lung cancer to exposure to cooking oil fumes. Even in women who have never smoked! The most toxic fumes came from cooking with safflower oil, vegetable oil, and corn oil. It’s best to avoid these oils altogether and to cook in a properly ventilated kitchen.

#2 - Chemical Baths

Yellow cooking oils go through a nasty process in which they are washed in Hexane. This chemical is known to damage nerves in your hands and feet. Then it’s rinsed with a chemical called lye, caustic soda, or NaOH (Sodium Hydroxide). Exposure to this is linked to cancer of the esophagus.

3 - 1 Teaspoon = 2 Cigarettes

The Sydney Diet-Heart Study showed a 62% higher death rate in people who ate more vegetable oils. Simply put: eating 1 teaspoon of vegetable oil harms you as much as smoking 2 cigarettes. So cooking with vegetable oils increases your risk of death about as much as chain-smoking cigarettes. Another study by the Los Angeles Veterans Administration found an 82% increased risk of cancer death in people who ate more vegetable oils. The results are clear: cooking with vegetable oil is the new smoking.

Toxic fumes and chemical baths and cancer risk, oh my!

Now you’re wondering: how can I avoid potentially cancerous cooking oils?

Take the quiz below to find out…

What's the safest oil to cook with?

A - olive oil
B - coconut oil
C - avocado oil
D - none of the above

Click above to see the best cooking oil to use.

Plus, you’ll discover that a common “healthy oil” is in fact 70% fake and straight-up toxic for your body…

And why over 5,623 health-conscious folks across America have ditched their premium olive oil for this lush green oil.

Have you noticed how fast AI is changing everything?

It's not just tech jobs. Not just Silicon Valley.

Marketing teams are shrinking.

Customer service is being automated.

Even attorneys, accountants, radiologists, and software engineers are watching AI eat into work that used to take humans hours… or days… to do.

And it's not slowing down.

I'm not telling you this to distress you.

I'm telling you because I think we're at a moment where every thoughtful person needs to ask a serious question:

If your income depends entirely on your work and work is being disrupted at a pace we've never seen before… what's your plan?

We are in a new reality…

But here's where I want to take this in a direction most people aren't going…

While AI is reshaping the job market, a parallel shift/opportunity is happening in the wealth-building world. And most people aren’t connecting the dots… yet.

Heart Disease Can Come in Twos

By Chauncey Crandall, M.D.

A Chinese research team surveyed more than 5,000 couples living in seven regions of China and found that people whose spouse had heart disease were more than twice as likely to develop it as well.

The association was particularly strong for men; the study found 28 percent of men whose wives had heart disease also had heart problems, compared to 12.8 percent of men whose wives didn’t have heart disease. This association was highest for men whose wives had a history of stroke and obesity, and were smokers.

Special: Top Heart Doc Warning: Older Adults Need More of THESE 2 Nutrients

Heart disease risk was 21 percent for women with spouses who had heart disease, compared to just 9 percent for those with healthy husbands. For women, heart disease was highest among those whose husbands had a history of stroke, according to the study presented at the American College of Cardiology.

It’s no mystery why couples are at higher risk of both partners developing heart disease. When you’re part of a couple, you share the same home environment. This can mean that couples influence each other when it comes to what they eat and whether they tend to live active or sedentary lifestyles.

Smoking can be another big factor. One partner who smokes may influence the other to pick up the habit. But even if they don’t, it exposes the nonsmoking partner to secondhand smoke, which can lead to cancer and/or cardiovascular disease.

If you’ve ever dealt with gas, emergency trips to the bathroom, or bloating that makes you look pregnant by 3pm…

You’ve probably tried to figure out which foods are to blame.

So you start removing things.

Maybe you start with the “usual” suspects like gluten, dairy, sugar, and caffeine. Maybe you even cut healthy foods like raw vegetables or fermented foods.

And at first, it kind of works.

But then something strange happens.

Foods that were fine last month suddenly start bothering you. Your “safe list” gets smaller… and smaller… and smaller.

Until you’re eating the same handful of foods on repeat. And still not feeling quite right.

If that sounds familiar, I just published a new health report that may completely change how you think about your gut.

I published this report because, recently, I’ve been noticing a pattern in our community.

Women who are doing everything “right” with their diet… but still dealing with bloating, discomfort, and unpredictable digestion.

And when I looked deeper into the research, I realized something surprising:

For many women, it’s not the food that’s causing the problem. It’s not necessarily age, genetics, or even your gut microbiota, either.

It’s something happening underneath all of that.

When you see what this is, you’ll understand why elimination diets seem to work… until they don’t.

Why new foods keep becoming “triggers.”

And why you can eat the exact same meal on two different days, and feel completely different afterward.

When I first came across this, it honestly made me rethink everything I thought I knew about food sensitivities.

So I wanted to share this short health report to explain what’s really going on — and what women are doing differently once they understand it.

⇒ Why your “trigger foods” might not be the real problem (click to read)

If you’ve been trying to eat “perfectly” and still dealing with gut issues, I think this is going to connect some dots for you.

Yours for better health naturally,

Jim, when you are the one everyone else depends on, you cannot afford to not feel your best.
You are the one researching the best foods, scheduling the appointments, making sure everyone has what they need to thrive. You put your family's health first, often before your own.
Very often, the person holding everything together is also the one running on empty. Tired but pushing through. Foggy but functioning. Gaining weight despite doing everything right. Feeling like a shadow of the person they used to be.
And they have no idea their thyroid could be behind all of it.
For anyone in our community dealing with an autoimmune condition, a hormonal imbalance, chronic fatigue, or any health condition that just will not resolve, our next expert Q&A is for you.
Sign up here for, Could It Be Your Thyroid? The Missing Link to Energy, Metabolism, Weight, and Hormonal Health, with Dr. Hilda Maldonado.
This free expert Q&A wil be live on Tuesday, May 6, 2026 at 2:00 PM ET.
(But don’t worry if you can’t be on live. Sign up to get the replay.)
Dr. Hilda is an MD specializing in thyroid and hormonal health, and has spent her career helping people who have been dismissed, misdiagnosed, or told to learn to live with how they feel.

Your thyroid does not just affect you. When you are exhausted, overwhelmed, or not feeling like yourself, your whole family feels it.
And when you understand how to support your thyroid, everything changes. Your energy comes back. Your mood stabilizes. You show up the way you want to for the people who need you most.
We can’t wait to see you there.
Note: Please share this on your socials and with those you love. It’s a free event with a priceless impact on your health.

Have you been gaining weight ‘round the middle, no matter what you do?

Does it seem like if you even glance at a bowl of ice cream…BOOM…there’s another inch added to your waist measurement?

Well, there’s a perfectly good explanation for that, Jim

You see, there are a few distinct hormones that are working against you in midlife to make you gain weight, especially in the midsection.

These hormones are the reason you’ve been counting calories, exercising, and not getting anywhere with your weight loss efforts.

They’re also the reason you feel tired and hungry all the time, too.

Unfortunately, you can’t just flip a switch and turn these hormones off

But you can manage them and get back to feeling like your energetic, slimmer self.

Want to know what these hormones are and how to stop them from wreaking havoc on your waistline and your midlife journey?

Join me for my all-new free class, The Truth About Midlife Weight Gain & Metabolism.

Hi

Who wouldn't want to hit 100 and still feel great? I know I would. And honestly, I'm planning on it. Today's guest article features a man who blew past that milestone... all the way to 114. And he says a few specific foods are the reason he stayed healthy for so long...

A 114-year-old man credits these 5 foods for his long, healthy life.

Quick editorial note: the article mentions he avoided red meat, but I'm not convinced that mattered. The old "red meat is bad" theory has been debunked by thousands of studies. Stick with pasture-raised and you're fine. His other food choices, though? Those are worth paying attention to.

Of course, living past 100 means you have to dodge the biggest bullet out there... heart disease. It's still the #1 cause of death. Which brings me to something important you need to know...
Duke MD: "#1 Heart Attack Sign... It's NOT Chest Pain, Cholesterol, or BP"
The first sign of a heart attack is rarely what people assume...

It's not chest pain… or your cholesterol numbers...

Or even high blood pressure readings.

A top physician from Duke University uncovered something that's sending shockwaves through the cardiology world:

If one particular nutrient runs low in your heart, your odds of a cardiac event shoot way up.

(Hint: it's not Omega-3s.)

What makes this common deficiency so dangerous?

Standard blood tests don't catch it.

That means your cholesterol could look great, your BP could be textbook normal... and you'd still be at serious risk.

"People forget the heart is a muscle," says Dr. Rick Cohen. "And like any muscle, it needs specific protein-like nutrients to function properly."

Dr. Cohen's natural approach has helped thousands keep their hearts strong... no drugs required.

He recently released a brief video explaining a simple pre-shower technique to support your heart.

See it here:

Hi there! Happy Saturday! I hope you're enjoying the weekend!
Okay, so today, I have a great book for you to read (in case you haven't read this one yet).
I don't know if you know this, but I used to work in the fitness industry for many, many years. I started as a personal trainer and worked my way up to Divisional Manager for a chain of health clubs.
Anyway, to be honest, fitness is something I've been up and down with over the years.
Sometimes I'm doing great and being consistent, and then I fall off the wagon (sigh). Can you relate?
You know, as I'm getting older, I'm realizing more and more just how important strength training is (so yes, I'm back on that wagon again).
This is important for everyone.
I have a really great free book titled, "Strength Training to Remain Ageless" for you. It even includes a free ticket to the "5-Day Full Body Fix" live event!

if you have money in a US bank or retirement account right now, you need to know what Executive Order 14028 actually does.

It was sold as a cybersecurity upgrade.

It quietly gave Washington the legal power to monitor, flag, and freeze your savings without a court order, without a new law, and without warning.

Your paycheck. Your savings. Every transfer you make.

The system sees all of it.

And it is expanding faster than anyone anticipated.

This is already happening behind the scenes.

Get the facts and protect your savings here before it is too late

If you're over 50 and dealing with joint pain, stiffness, or a body that just doesn't move the way it used to, I want to share something important with you.

Because the explanation most people are given is wrong.

They're told it's “just aging”.

That this is simply what getting older feels like, and that there isn't much you can do about it.

But that's not the full picture.

Discover the real reason your body hurts after 50, and how to start reversing it in just minutes a day

The truth is, most pain and stiffness after 50 isn't caused by age.

It's caused by “movement debt”.

I know this sounds a bit strange, but think about it.

You’ve spent decades sitting, driving, and repeating the same narrow movement patterns, which have created adaptations in your body.

And now, decades later, they’re now showing up as pain, tightness, and dysfunction.

Your body isn't breaking down, it's just compensating.

And compensation can be corrected.

That's why I want to introduce you to my colleague Robbie Stahl, a world-renowned anti-aging fitness expert known as The Fitness Doctor.

Robbie has spent 27 years studying what ancient wisdom traditions have always known about how the human body was designed to move.

And he's putting it all into a no-cost 5-day challenge, called The Full Body Fix.

Throughout each day, you'll learn things like:

The 3 movement patterns aging your body faster than time itself, and how to stop repeating them

How to reset mechanical dysfunction in just minutes per day, without equipment or complicated routines

Why stretching actually makes some problems worse, and what to do instead

He's seen 70-year-olds moving better than 40-year-olds after applying this.

People who had been living with pain for years, reporting that it was simply gone within days.

If you’ve been experiencing body pain, and you’re feeling concerned about it getting worse as you get older, then you’ll definitely want to attend this.

Secure your spot in the 5 Day Full Body Fix Challenge and learn how to start moving without pain again

Researchers found 100% of people tested carry 6 overlooked toxins linked to hormonal disruption, heart disease, and metabolic dysfunction — and no doctor screens for this, but these targeted changes substantially reduce your risk.

In addition, a 2,000-year-old herb just received clinical confirmation that it tackles anxiety, sleep, and cardiovascular risk simultaneously — by targeting the exact stress pathway driving all three, and most people have never heard of this.

Here's something nobody in the nutrition world talks about...

You've spent years paying off your body's inflammation debt. The clean eating. The anti-inflammatory foods. The whole-food plant-based approach.

And it worked. Your bloodwork proves it.

But there's a second debt that's been compounding the whole time.

It's called "movement debt."

Decades of sitting at desks, driving cars, and moving in patterns your body was never designed for... created structural damage that no diet can undo.

Think about it...

Your hips adapted to a chair. Your shoulders rounded forward over a keyboard. Your feet forgot how to grip the ground.

Your body didn't break all at once. It adapted. And those adaptations are now coming due.

The good news? Movement debt can be paid off.

A free 5-day class called the Full Body Fix was built to show you exactly how.

You'll discover:

  • The 3 hidden movement patterns breaking down your body that no diet can reach
  • How to "reset" years of mechanical dysfunction in just minutes per day
  • Why anti-inflammatory eating alone can mask the real problem
If you'd like to see how to pay off your body's movement debt... click below.

Yes, I want to pay off my movement debt and move freely again.

Hi there,

There's a chemical in your food right now… that researchers just found inside the human brain.

It's called glyphosate, which is the active ingredient in Roundup.

And according to scientists at Arizona State University's Neurodegenerative Disease Research Center…

It penetrates the brain and triggers inflammation.

The same inflammation linked to Alzheimer's… Parkinson's… and other neurodegenerative diseases.

Here's what should concern you:

A large majority of Americans carry trace levels of this chemical right now.

Not because they're doing anything wrong.

But because it's in the food system.

In the soil… in the grains… in products on every grocery store shelf.

And the gut is where it starts.

Your digestive system is the first line of defense between what you eat… and what reaches your brain.

Which is why supporting your gut, daily and consistently, isn't optional anymore.

=> Discover how glyphosate in your food is reaching your brain and fueling neurodegenerative disease

To your health,
