Nobody Likes a Plague. But History Tells Us There May Be Benefits…

History tends to remember the Plague of Justinian, which swept through the Byzantine Empire and much of Europe beginning in the 6th century, as one of the great catastrophes of the early medieval world.

And in terms of death toll it absolutely was.

But a landmark study examining more than 15,000 European skeletons across two millennia found something about the plague's aftermath that complicates the straightforward disaster narrative in a genuinely interesting way.

The generations born immediately after the Plague of Justinian were measurably healthier than the generations that preceded it.

The mechanism is not complicated but it is counterintuitive…

The catastrophic reduction in population meant that the survivors had access to a significantly larger share of available resources.

Better food, more land, less competition for the basic necessities that determine health outcomes for ordinary people.

The result was an improvement in health markers across the middle and lower classes that the researchers were able to trace directly in the skeletal record.

Professor Jörg Baten of the University of Tübingen and his team of 75 researchers from across Europe spent a decade building this picture, examining remains from over 100 locations and assessing dental health, stature, diet quality, physical burden, and rates of violent injury.

What followed that post-plague health improvement is where the story gets darker.

From the Early Middle Ages onward, the data shows a largely consistent decline in health for the lower and middle classes, driven by population growth that gradually eroded the resource advantages the post-plague generations had enjoyed, rising social inequality, and eventually the climatic disruption of the Little Ice Age.

The research offers a sobering perspective on the relationship between population density, resource distribution, and public health that feels remarkably relevant to conversations happening right now about inequality, environmental stress, and what determines the actual health of ordinary people across generations.

Dear jim,

On Sunday, July 20, 2026, the EPA's comment period on its intent to block drinking water testing for PFAS closes. You have five days to make your voice heard.
PFAS "forever chemicals" are in the blood of 98% of Americans and contaminating 45% of U.S. tap water. They cause cancer, kidney disease, birth defects, and liver damage. 30,000 factories have been dumping PFAS waste directly into streams, rivers, and sewage systems for decades, and they've faced virtually no consequences for it. Companies like 3M and DuPont knew exactly what they were doing and kept doing it anyway.
The Biden EPA finally moved to change that. In 2024, it set maximum contaminant limits for PFAS in drinking water, after finding that long-term exposure at levels already present in our water is linked to kidney cancer, immune system suppression, and developmental delays in infants and children. Now the Trump EPA is rescinding those protections and delaying enforcement of the remaining limits until 2031.
PFAS chemicals are making us sick. Halting efforts to get them out of our water is a decision that will cost lives.
TAKE ACTION BY MIDNIGHT ON JULY 20: Tell the EPA To Stop Blocking PFAS Testing and Restore Drinking Water Protections!
Read more about what the EPA is rolling back and what it means for your drinking water.
Wishing you health,

Hey ,
Chronic low-grade inflammation can be incredibly damaging to our bodies.
Symptoms like eczema, psoriasis, diarrhea, constipation, fatigue, depression, brain fog, and joint issues all point to one underlying issue:
Inflammation.
But these symptoms are the alarm bells of the body letting us know that something is not right.
And if we ignore these symptoms when they are mild, they will only get louder until we are forced to stop and listen.
Then, the most feared diseases like heart disease, diabetes, autoimmune disorders, and Alzheimer's come knocking on our door.
Maybe not tomorrow or next week - but one day.
That means unchecked chronic inflammation is the single greatest health threat facing us today.
Unfortunately, most people don’t know how to stop inflammation once it shows up.
But on January 21st at 5pm PT, I’m going to share with you the most POWERFUL, simple, and safe strategies to address chronic inflammation.
Join me for the Solving the Chronic Inflammation Puzzle workshop.
Here’s a preview of what you’ll discover:
- The hidden sources driving chronic inflammation that everyone misses (even practitioners).

- Why suppressing inflammation backfires if you don’t address the root cause.

- How chronic inflammation can lead to downstream dysfunction and create additional health challenges.

- The critical link between your gut, nervous system, and inflammation

When you understand what’s driving chronic inflammation and what you can do to intervene, your body can finally dedicate resource to healing and regeneration so you can feel good again!

There are certain meals that just hit differently.

The ones you find yourself cooking on repeat without ever really planning to. The recipes that show up in your kitchen when you're tired, when the weather turns, when you just want something warm and honest that leaves you feeling well.

For me, a good coconut curry has always been one of those meals.

There's something about the way the coconut milk melts into the spices, the way the cauliflower soaks up all that flavor, the way cashews add just enough creaminess to make every bite feel like a proper meal. It's the kind of food that fills you up in every sense of the word — your body, your senses, your mood.

This Cauliflower, Cashew & Coconut Curry is one I keep coming back to.

The spice mix is doing quiet work — turmeric with its anti-inflammatory power, ginger to support digestion and help calm cortisol, and a warming blend that wakes up your gut. Coconut milk brings the healthy fats your hormones actually need to function properly. Cauliflower delivers fiber and gut-loving compounds, and the cashews add protein, magnesium, and a creamy richness that pulls the whole thing together.

It's the kind of curry that feels indulgent but is actually working hard for you. You can make a big batch, freeze half of it, and thank yourself on a busy Wednesday when dinner is already sorted.

Serve it over brown rice or quinoa, topped with fresh cilantro, a squeeze of lime, and a spoonful of yogurt if that's your thing.

Sometimes the most nourishing thing you can do for your body is to just cook a real meal, sit down, and eat it properly.

You can get the recipe HERE. >>

I hope you're enjoying an amazing week so far :).

Every day, your body produces cells that have the potential to become cancerous.
That sounds very frightening…
Because the difference between getting cancer… and staying healthy… often comes down to whether your body can clear those cells out in time.
And for most, it does….quietly, brilliantly, all day long.
Your body is equipped with a system designed to find these dangerous cells and destroy them before they become a problem.
This system is part of your immune system, which serves as your body’s first line of defense.
But here’s the thing…
That system needs support.
Because it slows down with age, stress, toxins, poor sleep, and the processed foods that have quietly become a daily part of modern life.
And when it slows down… abnormal cells can slip through unnoticed, build up, and eventually lead to a cancer diagnosis.
However, researchers are discovering that certain fruits, vegetables, herbs, and spices contain powerful antioxidants and plant compounds that can support your body’s natural defenses against cancer.
And one of the easiest ways to get more of these cancer-fighting nutrients daily is through concentrated juice shots.
That’s why we at Zonia created a free guide called “15 Cancer Fighting & Prevention Juice Shots You Can Sip All Day Long” to help support and boost your metabolism.
Go here to get your free copy of this new guide: “15 Cancer Fighting & Prevention Juice Shots You Can Sip All Day Long.”
Now, those juice shots are a powerful start.

But they're just one piece of the puzzle.

Because while what you eat matters enormously… your immune system is fighting a war on multiple fronts.

Stress is weakening it. Toxins are confusing it. Years of modern living have left it sluggish, slow, and far less equipped than it should be.

And when your immune system isn't operating at its best, it doesn't just affect your body's ability to deal with abnormal cells.

It can also leave you more vulnerable to a wide range of life-threatening health problems that become more common as you age.

That’s why, along with getting this free eBook, you’ll also get a FREE ticket to an exclusive online event called IMMUNE FOR LIFE.
Inside, 35 world-renowned functional medicine doctors and immunologists are revealing:
  • How our immunity, specifically T reg cells, cleans up cancer stem cells (the most dangerous cancer cells), and what vitamins you need to take to become cancer-immune
  • How to achieve a 90% reduction in your risk of Alzheimer's regardless of your genetics
  • The 5 major inflammation triggers you do every day without even knowing it
  • Can you bulletproof your body against a heart attack? Discover why more than 90% of heart diseases are preventable and how anyone can tap into this little-known secret

Hi there Jimi,

Recently identified, Spiky-Leaky Syndrome is a daily cycle of intracranial pressure spikes and CSF (cerebrospinal fluid) leaks, driven by breathing patterns and structural compression in the upper cervical spine.

It's showing up more in patients with complex chronic illness, yet most practitioners never connect it to symptoms like:
  • Dysautonomia
  • MCAS
  • Debilitating headaches
In this episode of the Gordon Medical Forum podcast, Dr. Andrew Maxwell, the pediatric cardiologist who identified Spiky-Leaky Syndrome, joins Dr. Nafysa Parpia to walk through the diagnostic signs, including how pressure builds and then escapes through weak points near the sinuses, and explain why this may be a key piece in treating Long COVID, ME/CFS, fibromyalgia, and tick-borne disease.
Episode Highlights:
  • Spiky-Leaky Syndrome involves cyclical intracranial pressure surges and CSF leaks, presenting with alternating headaches, dysautonomia, and cranial nerve dysfunction
  • Cranial nerves IX–XII often compress near C1, contributing to vagal dysregulation, tinnitus, dysphagia, and autonomic instability
  • Mast cell activation and connective tissue laxity compromise craniocervical stability, worsening POTS and autonomic dysfunction
  • Diagnosis combines CO2 monitoring, cone beam CT imaging, and venogram assessment of jugular compression

Did you know that in traditional Chinese medicine, many of today's ailments and greatest health challenges can be traced to imbalances in the liver?

This is perhaps because the primary function of the liver is to regulate the movement of Qi (or life force) within the body – something that impacts all organ systems.

As a driver and holder of this life force, it's no surprise that the liver has far-reaching effects on almost every other organ system in the body.

That's right, even things like eye health, hair health, teeth and bone health, emotional health, urinary health, our metabolism, immune health, digestion, sex drive, cognitive health, energy levels, and detoxification are impacted by the health of this hardworking organ.

Your liver works tirelessly, 24/7, to protect you from toxins, regulate your blood sugar, and perform dozens of other vital functions that affect your energy, skin, and overall health. Which is why it's so important to support it!

My friend Brian Vaszily just released a free recipe guide called The 20 Most Powerful Liver-Cleansing Drinks, packed with simple teas, tonics, juices, and elixirs like:

→ Morning Lemon Detox Water for hydration & bile flow

→ Ginger & Lemon Digestive Elixir to protect liver cells

→ Dandelion Root Liver Tea for healthy bile production

→ Milk Thistle Liver Protection Tea

...and 16 more, each made with simple ingredients already in your kitchen or easily found at the grocery store.

Creating health is not the same as treating disease. One physician believes the goal isn't simply to manage illness; it's to build the biological conditions that allow the body to function at its best.
Today, I'm excited to share my conversation with physician and natural health pioneer Dr. Joseph Mercola, whose perspective centers on mitochondria, metabolic flexibility, muscle, and the body's remarkable capacity for self-repair.
That distinction between treating disease and creating health sits at the heart of his philosophy.
In this episode, Dr. Mercola shares how his thinking has evolved over decades of clinical practice and research (I’ve been following him since I was a teenager!).
We discuss why he believes metabolic flexibility, mitochondrial health, muscle mass, time-restricted eating, sunlight, and movement all play essential roles in supporting long-term health.
We also explore several emerging areas of health science, including blood flow restriction training, deuterium depletion, EMFs, and the growing evidence supporting healthy mitochondrial function.

This episode was first released in December 2019
In this podcast, Dr. Mercola and I discuss:
  • The fundamental difference between treating disease and creating health

  • Why mitochondrial function may be one of the strongest predictors of long-term health

  • How metabolic flexibility supports energy production and healthy aging

  • Why time-restricted eating may be just as important as what you eat

  • The role of sunlight beyond vitamin D, including its effects on your mitochondria

  • The emerging science of deuterium depletion and what it may reveal about cellular health

  • How blood flow restriction training can help support muscle mass with lighter weights

  • Why maintaining muscle becomes increasingly important as we age

  • Dr. Mercola's perspective on EMFs and their potential impact on mitochondrial function

Sometimes all we need in order to change our current reality is a little wisdom, spoken to us with gentleness and a pure heart. I came across this powerful Lakota prayer a few years ago and wanted to share it with you. I hope it helps you on your path. I know it did for me.

Lakota Prayer

Great Mystery,
teach me how to trust
my heart,
my mind,
my intuition,
my inner knowing,
the senses of my body,
the blessings of my spirit.
Teach me to trust these things
so that I may enter my Sacred Space
and love beyond my fear,
and thus Walk in Balance
with the passing of each glorious Sun.

According to certain tribes, the Sacred Space is the space between exhalation and inhalation. To Walk in Balance is to have Heaven (spirituality) and Earth (physicality) in Harmony.

Pterostilbene Has Powerful Anticancer Properties

Dr. Russell Blaylock, M.D., writes:

Pterostilbene is a polyphenol found in high concentrations in blueberries, which explains studies showing blueberries’ rare ability to prevent brain aging. Pterostilbene also has very powerful anticancer effects, and even inhibits tumors that are resistant to cisplatin, a commonly used, highly toxic chemotherapy agent.

In fact, pterostilbene inhibits several cancers known to be very resistant to traditional treatments, including triple-negative breast cancers (all breast cancers are inhibited by pterostilbene) and chemotherapy-resistant multiple myeloma.

Special: New Aging Research Reveals Key to Long, Healthy Life

Importantly, it has been shown to inhibit breast cancer stem cells, which are impervious to most chemotherapy agents.

Once absorbed, pterostilbene is converted to resveratrol, which has many brain protective and anticancer effects. For one thing, pterostilbene is far better absorbed from the gut than resveratrol. It is well distributed in the body, especially the brain, and has also been shown to stay in the blood and tissues much longer than resveratrol. It is also safer than resveratrol.

Interestingly, in higher doses it has been shown to increase the amount of hemoglobin in the blood. It has also been shown to reduce the effects of aging.

In addition, pterostilbene protects the heart, reduces atherosclerosis, prevents metabolic disorders, and protects the brain, spinal cord, and nerves.

Researchers found a 22% reduction in heart attacks among animals fed pterostilbene when they had a heart artery tied off.

In another study, it was shown to substantially raise cardiac function, reduce heart attacks, and reduce damage to the heart after blood vessel occlusion. It was also shown to lower cholesterol and other elevated blood lipids and raise HDL levels.

Research has demonstrated that it is better absorbed with a meal.

I hope you are enjoying this weekend morning. A few quick items for you:

Survey Results

In June, I sent a note asking for your thoughtful input on how best I can further support you on your own path to overcoming a diagnosis of prostate cancer. I was touched by the volume and depth of responses. Thank you; very insightful.

Dr. Geo enjoys online forums. I instead prefer in-person events. Since our members are worldwide, I am going to need to find a middle ground that achieves broad, high-quality reach but do so in a format that is well-suited for this sensitive subject matter.

These occasional weekend notes from me will continue, as will our weekly clinical insights and educational newsletters. Please take full advantage of our blog which is filled with relevant material. And I promise that our new book is a worthwhile read that was designed to give you a safe harbor, offline experience.

Now, based on your input, we will augment these resources with an in-person event in NYC that will be filmed, edited, and made available online. Depending on the success of this inaugural event, we will consider future events in other cities where we have similar concentrations of customers.

This event will take some planning, preparation, and execution. Details will follow, but I am thinking we might be ready sometime this winter in NYC. If we are going to do this, as always, we are going to do this right and make it memorable and valuable for you.

A Favor, An Algorithm

We avoid Amazon in general, but for the purpose of making millions of men living with a diagnosis of prostate cancer aware of our new book which will help them, there is no better bookselling platform. As such, we elected to make available our “Reclaim Rebuild Renew” on Amazon.

If you have read our book, and you don’t mind doing so, would please leave a 5-star, glowing review on Amazon for our book? We are trying to overcome Amazon itself, who wanted us to use their print-on-demand and Kindle services, which we do not want to do. The more 5-star, glowing reviews, the more visible the book will be to millions of men who will benefit from it after doing an Amazon search on prostate cancer.

In return, if you let Monica know once your review is live on Amazon, as a thank you, we will send you an XY Wellness t-shirt or a bottle of XYVGGR along with a personal note from Dr. Geo and me. Once again, thank you for your help promoting our new book.

Smartly Tend to Your Sexual Health

I am a spammer ban me dysfunction affects one of every two men in their 50s, and the figures climb from there to 60% in their 60s, 70% in their 70s, and so on.

This is not just a personal problem affecting your intimate life, but is a critical health issue that you must not ignore. Research has shown the strong correlation between ED and increased risk of cardiovascular disease, heart disease, stroke, and death. Beyond age-related ED, men who have been treated for prostate cancer via surgery, radiation or other invasive procedures run additional risk of ED due to damage to the “nerve bundles” surrounding the prostate.

In other words, ED is a material health problem and is not something to be ignored or dismissed. If you are having any issues with your ability to achieve and maintain an erection, make an appointment with your health care practitioner to rule out the related health risks. And do not allow this aspect of your life to slip away. We encourage you to actively research alternatives and find some combination of things that work well for you.

Aging and prostate cancer will unavoidably affect your sexual health and performance, and our choices involve trade-offs. For instance, the benefits of a PDE-5 Inhibitor (such as Cialis or Viagra), a natural alternative (such as XYVGGR), or the combination will get partially offset by alcohol. Be smart, track what time of day your body seems to peak sexually, and act accordingly. Remember the song “Afternoon Delight”? So will she. Now go have some fun, young man.

Trust Expertise, Not Influencers

There is so much medical misinformation circulating that it is putting all of us at risk. The military saying of “you need to separate the signal from the noise” applies here. Please trust credentialed experts, and ignore those who lack the applicable domain expertise. Listen to doctors, not influencers, and listen to doctors who specifically have developed domain expertise in the area of your specific malady over those who have not. Geo Espinosa is a naturopathic doctor (so trained in nutraceuticals and dietary supplements) who runs a leading integrative urology clinic at NYU Langone with a particular focus on prostate cancer. This is why he is our Medical Director and why you can rely on his insights and guidance in this noisy online environment. Do yourself a favor, pick the right expert for you and then do your best to cancel out the noise.

They've been brought in on purpose, and now the government can use them to slaughter herds, just as the Canadian government killed all of those ostriches on one farm over some bogus notion of infection.
