Jumping into diy

So I've just made my first order for diy juices, I picked up a good 20 flavors some nic and a few different size syringes to measure stuff. I've read the sticky posts on here but was wondering if anyone has other tips or tricks for mixing. I purchased my flavors from bull city and my nic from vapers tek, I understand start low% on flavors as its easier to add more to taste rather than dilute with more base, and as far as steeping goes around a week is what I'm seeing is most commonly done, and I'm excited to get into this.

1) find a few tried and true recipes that interest you and order the flavors for those recipes. "Winging it" off the bat is a recipe for failure. There are many bad flavorings out there. And following recipes will give you experience with your flavorings and how to use them. (Too late since you ordered already)

2) syringes suck. Get a scale.

3)syringes suck. Get a scale.

4) fruit flavors rarely need steeping. And some custards are good without steeping also. Some take weeks or more to steep. I would start with fruit recipes so you can experience success sooner. Would suck bad to steep a "first diy" for a month only to dump it cuz it isn't good.

5) don't get in a "mix, taste, adjust, taste, adjust, taste, adjust" whirlwind. Mix. Taste. Let it sit a day. Taste again. Maybe adjust.

You can overwhelm your taste buds and frustrate yourself by trying to rush. Take your time.

6) enjoy diy. I do.

7) get a scale. Syringes suck.

8) there is no silver bullet. You will need to put some time and effort into diy. You will make some stuff that sucks. It is a learning experience.

9) you will never regret DIY juice.

Every piece of advice I gave is exactly what I wish someone had told me before I started DIY. I have made these mistakes and wanted to give my take so you (and others) don't make the same mistakes.

Find a mixing program/app that fits your needs. Lots of threads here to help you with that. If you also might be using drops for measurements, I suggest finding one that allows drop size variations.

Keep your eyes open for 4th of July sales. ;)

yea cant say this enough get a scale

now this part can be painful
i dont suggest starting witha recipe
start with a couple single flavors like a peach or an apple by itself
do a couple ml at say x% then a batch at x+1% then one at x+2% to see how more or less tastes to you..make note at what percentages you like it by itself
so you know if you see a recipe at say 8% of flavor x and when you try it at 8% you hated it, then you know to reduce that flavor and possibly other flavors in your recipe

you dont have to add nic to test flavors..i normally dont

Ok awesome responses thanks so much, yes I realize winging it isn't a great idea but I spent hours reading reviews, and researching flavors so hopefully I'll be mostly happy with what I receive. I got a wide array of flavors, fruits creams etc and I do have the vape tool app to make and save receipes as I'm doing them. As far as a scale is there a decently cheap and accurate scale I should be looking for, from what I've read I need one that is accurate to .01g and in my experience that type of scale is expensive, but if it's a must have I will find the money for it. I do also have a good friend who owns a shop and makes some awesome juice so hopefully he can give me some pointers as well, and maybe we can trade some receipes as I get more experience. Thanks again to everyone who's replied already I do appreciate it.

... but if it's a must have I will find the money for it.

I use a scale. It's nice. It's NOT a must have. I've made 100's of successful recipes mixing by volume.

Me? If my budget was limited, instead of a scale, I would rather spend the $20 or so checking out new flavors or other ingredients. There's a whole bunch out there to sample. I've heard of vapeapocalypse ... I've never heard of scaleapocalypse.
