and from your perspective, what issues does it suffer from, and what more r &d would you be refering...
keeping in mind the tank was made to be used with kangers battery, taking a page from inokins play book...
Hard to keep in mind a mod I've never seen Ellipsis since Kanger hasn't released it yet, but I guess you are referring to the 25mm diameter of the tank and many people's aversion to the size. I agree that I would rather see a slimmer tank so I don't need to wait for a mod that fits this tank well. But I don't see that as a real problem at all, just a personal preference. I also would probably continue to use this on my existing mods anyway instead of buying the Kanger mod unleass the new mod turns out to be something really innovative for one reason or another.
Here are a few things I've noticed that I think deserve a little greater attention and would make this a better tank.
I don't really like that standard drip tips don't sit flush in the tank and have a gap between the tank top and the drip tip base. Not ascetically pleasing to me. I know this has been the case with Kanger tanks for years and for whatever reason they have chosen to continue this with the Subtank. Since drip tips have been pretty standardized in the depth of the part that goes into the tank I don't see why this is perpetuated in their latest flagship tank. Many people prefer to use their own drip tips, so I would like to see this revisited by Kanger.
I don't like the heat of the drip tip during vaping. It's a little odd since the warmth of the vapor is very pleasant at 25watts, but for some reason the drip tip at that power level feels hot to the point of discomfort. As a result, I never vape above 20watts. The good news is that the Subtank gives good flavor and a nice volume of vapor between 15 and 20watts, so it's still a very nice vape but I would like to bump it up a bit more to get better warmth from the vapor. I think better engineering could have balanced the heat a bit better.
When I took this tank filled with 4ml of juice to an altitude 3500ft lower than my altitude (I do this several times per week) I found all the juice had leaked out of the tank and covered everything in my vape case. Not a nice surprise. My Kayfuns have been known to do this, but my Aspires and Aerotanks (both regular Aerotank and Mega) have never done this. So know I now better than to try that again. Granted not a problem for most, but kind of a big deal for me.
I don't like that the tank spits a bit of juice after sitting a few minutes when I first hit the fire button. I have frequently gotten juice in the mouth as a result. This could possibly from the rushed revisions of coil development during the last month before release. Perhaps the BPDC coils didn't do this, but this is a small issue with the OCC that the tank was released with. I now combat this with pressing the fire button before putting the drip tip to my mouth so I don't get that initial popping juice in my mouth. Overall, I would rather that I didn't have to vape that way and I could just use this like the other tanks I have that don't spit.
I'm not a fan of the bottom spring 510 connection. Might not be an issue, but I have never liked using a small spring as part of conductivity in any device. Like with the Nautilus that did the same thing, it helps make sure there is connection but it doesn't always provide the best connection. Conductivity will always be better with a solid connection. And this is especially true over a long period of time.
I really didn't like that when I opened the box there was a strong smell of machine oil. While there was no actual oily residue that could be felt on parts, each piece strongly smelled of machine oil. While it was easy to clean the tank pieces in an ultrasonic the spare cotton was trashed because it smelled bad too, even in it's ziplocked baggie and there was no easy way to clean the coils. I think in Kanger's haste to meet production demands they just didn't take the time to properly clean these. All the tanks 3 of my local vape shops have opened have had the same smell. Hopefully as Kanger gets caught up on production they will take a bit more time on cleanliness.
I found the build deck a let down for 2 reasons. The airflow wasn't anywhere near what I had imagined it would be. It was very restrictive compared to the premade coils and that surprised me. For those who like a bit better than a Kayfun airflow you will be quite happy with the build deck. I was just expecting a vape similar to the prebuilt coils and really don't appreciate the restricted airflow. This will just be personal preference. The second thing is vaping the stock coils that come on the build deck take a full 2 seconds to heatup at 20watts, and anything above 20 watts for me results in an uncomfortably hot driptip. So pushing the wattage to heat coils quicker is just not an option for me. Probably a single coil or thinner ga wire with a dual coil could help this quite bit, but given I really don't enjoy the airflow I probably won't bother.
None of the above make this a bad tank. In fact, I think Kanger has stepped up to the plate nicely with an answer to the Atlantis and put out another product that just makes the whole vape experience better. So for any thinking that I'm bashing the tank and you shouldn't buy on as a result, please don't think that way. I have recommended this tank to quite a few friends, and other than a few quirks that I think could be made better quite easily, I think this is a stellar tank and deserves a lot of praise. So the above is just an opinion on a few things I've noticed and I will continue to recommend this tank with the mention of a few caveats.
BTW, this message is in response to Ellipses request for what I considered issues, so that's what I covered. But I have just as many positives about the tank... probably more positives. So don't consider this a negative review of the Subtank, because it's not.
