Kanger topbox nano firing with no battery using ceramic coil

So, after deciding to give the new kanger ceramic coils a try went and got a 0.5 and screwed it into my top tank nano. Suddenly the mod starts making a ticking sound and shocking me. The big mystery was that there was no battery in the mod. After putting on gloves I was able to remove the coil from the tank with only mild discomfort from the continuing volts. After the coil was out it stopped. Has anyone heard of this? This is a new experience for me, mod works as normal with a clapton coil and why shouldn't it? Coils don't fire without a battery right??? Except it seems there was significant electrical activity going on with that ceramic coil.

And yes, my hands are still shaky. Scared me to death..... stupid electricity.

Those coils are built with scrap from the Fukushima accident. One good thing about them, in a pinch you can use them like mini flashlights.

Or apparently shock therapy..... before I realized that there wasn't even a battery in it I attempted to 5 click the button with the gloves on and on the first touch the coil popped and sputtered, it FIRED WITH NO BATTERY. I can't even wrap my head around it.

Strange things happen man. I was rebuilding the coils in an atty once and got distracted by my dog barking outside. When I came back in I forgot to put the coils in and put it all back together, juiced it up, and the thing started hitting like crazy. I mean huge, competition sized clouds. It's been like that for a few months, I don't think I'll ever have to put coils in that thing. But it just BLOWS MY MIND, huge clouds without any coils???

The only way a battery operated device without batteries can discharge is if it still has charge (in capacitors) or from static electricity.

I had the same thought but was unsure what size capacitors the board in a subbox had if any, it was active for far too long to be just static and seemed too long to be little capacitors in the mod as well. I was wondering if maybe the ceramic coil was able to cause enough static to do such a thing but that just doesn't seem possible does it? BTW that coil works fine in my mini set up, the problem only happened in the nano.

The caps in that mod are not big enough to fire a coil, with out the battery, the mod could not turn on to fire. :wait:

Well that's the problem right? lol. But, it did. not only did it fire but the entire mod itself would shock you to the touch. For almost 10 mins before I found a way to get the atty off. I didn't think the caps would be large enough to fire and static shouldn't produce that sort of juice either but it fired all the same and electrified the mod body. Never happened before or since. The only thing diff about this time was that I was using the ceramic coil. I will note that the coil did not want to fully screw into the nano it was rough and catchy I had to force it abit. I have that coil in my mini now and it works beautiful. Was thinking that maybe the ceramic was able to produce static enough for such a thing due to improperly being seated in the nano atty somehow as unlikely as that may seem.
