KBOX 40 Watt - Battery cap spring digging into battery

Just thought I would post this as a heads-up for any current/potential owners of the KBOX.

I have two of the silver KBOXs and noticed that the battery spring located on the twist cap has a sharp edge that was digging into/scratching a groove into the bottom of the battery when twisting the battery cap on or off.

A simple fix was all it took. Using a fine metal file to file the sharp edge down to a smooth/rounded shape took all of a minute or two for each one. Problem solved.

Of note: Afterwards, twisting the cap on/off with a battery installed seemed smoother, which makes sense.

Otherwise, the KBOX has been a good performer and has replaced both my MVP 20w and iStick 50w as I find it to be more comfortable and I prefer the durable build of it (not that I abuse my mods), but that's me.

Please remember, that as always, any modifications are done at your own risk of usage/warranty/results/etc.

I have a black one and the small end is flat so none of my batteries are damaged. must have just been yours or the lot yours came out of. my spring is perfect.

I received a black one in the mail yesterday and the small end of spring has very sharp edges. Did a little file magic like OP and is much better.

Good looking out, @Xeir! I haven't inspected my spring, but my cap is kind of a pain to install and remove - will check it out next time I replace the battery...

Glad the observation has helped a few save some wear on their devices/batteries.

Scratches on the battery that occurred prior to rounding the sharp edge down, this was only from 2 or 3 times replacing the battery:

Just took mine apart and you're right - that is a pretty sharp spring...it'll get the file treatment when I get home tonight.

Yup, that's the sneaky little bugger causing the problem.

Haha, think the last time I got a gold star, I was kneehigh to a grasshopper.

Ya, pics help, didn't have the before pic, but thanks to OBDave, that's taken care of.

Glad to help, what it's all about.

Thanks for the heads up! I checked mine, and it too was sharp. I filed it down even though it doesn't look to have scratched my batteries.

Someone should send a pic of that to the Manufacturer
I can't complain much about that small quality control issue, I got mine for only $15.99 plus shipping new. Nice mod for under $20!

I've sent an email to Kanger about it and pointing them back to this thread for reference.

Agree with you Markw4mms, for the price I can't complain either. That's why I picked up 2 of them, simple device that works. Almost half tempted to pick up the SUBOX Mini kit now as well and phase out the rest of the mods I have that have integrated batteries. I still use the iStick 50w to check my coils.

I might buy another one for my G/F since they are so cheap, and rugged to boot! I also have an IStick 50 and love it!
