Ill be honest. My wife usually makes puts the coils in the rda's usually and i dont know much information about building. I was shown as she was by our local vape shop. We have been using twisted messes and have had no problem with it as we never have with another rda which is cheaper. I just got the cheetah obs in the mail today and was so excited for something new not too expensive. I built it myself everything looked great and then tested it without the cotton on because i was told thats the best way to do it. I hit the fire button and it immediately took the coild on one side and squished it together almost like a ball from 2 sec on the fire button. Then i remade it looked great again actually better than the first time then it said OHMS too low. Sooo i was told u could have any omhs and use any coil im using the alien 220w my question is why did it do that and im honestly scared for it to blow up if i make another one. Does it matter what coil i use and what ohms?? And what do you think happend what did I do wrong? Thanks.

sounds like the coil is being shorted maybe? like it's touching metal on the tank

Yes it matters , please look up steam engine , this allows you to input metal type ie Kanthal or ss31 , input the Lenght maybe , an works out how many wraps to do , how big the inner diameter ie 2mm or up to 3.5mm inner diameter of coils and if you want to make one or two coils it calculates the resistance of the coils you want to make , this is used by many beginers or pros to work out builds , since your not know what you want to try out , id start with steam engine an then only make minimum low builds of 0.5 ohms

We did it again and the coil itself broke while firing it. Then again we did it and it seems to be working fine. I still prefer my twisted messes but not a bad rda

Your shorting the wire or giving it too many watts

The other coils were likely touching metal causing the short. If it's working now it means that there is no short.
Also pictures are very helpful when u have an issue

Yeah I don't know how people build without them.

I have 3 but I build on more accurate devices and can cross check from mod to mod. I wouldn't build with no knowledge of ohms law like the OP but I don't use a dedicated ohm meter most of the time.

Yep, I've been eyeballing the Kennedy Ruby for a while and really close to pulling a trigger on one. So I ordered a Multimeter, it's all about having the right tools ;)

For everyone to get a clear understanding, it would be helpful to have pictures for this type of troubleshooting, as well as what type of wire the coils are built with, how many wraps, etc. --- again, pictures tell a thousand words.

With that said,
You should always look at the ohm reading (if building it on a MOD) BEFORE you fire up the coils.
You should make sure your MOD (if using a MOD) is set to VW mode with 10-15watts to bump the coil (don't hold the button down).
You should also make sure (since you are using an Alien MOD) to NOT have the pre-heat enabled. If your preheat is set to 100W but your trying to bump at 10w -- well, you'll actually be bumping at 100W, not 10.

I bought demon pack cones with 50 diffrent coils diffrent ohms and was told and shown a year ago i could use any of them on the mod. We have put over 100 diffrent ones in that and other mods before and same with the alien and have never had that problem before thats why i was confused. I was never told to lower rhe temp control before testing the coil before because they said its automatic temp whe*n u screw the new coil into the mod. That may be the reason i usually vaoe at 127 or 117 so should i be lowering the temp way low when testing the coil and i just put too much power /watt on testing the coil.

Because ik never 10 to 15 on temp ever but thats what i should do and it will be fine? Like i said before we never had a problem until now but our 4th try was great nothing wrong. Testing it on same temp and if it was that how long do u click the button to test it onky a few clicks ?

aren't those coils made of kenthal? I'm pretty sure they are. they aren't compatible with temp control. I'd really like to see pics it would allow me to help you more

It could be bad coil, shorted out, or any number of reasons. And it is always safest to check the ohm reading before firing up a coil, even if the store "said they all work". Safety first, for you.

That back coil looks like it may be shorting out on the outside ring. You need to pull those coils in tighter to the posts, then tighten down the grubs, then ease out the coil to the center of the juice well.

your bottom coil looks like it could be touching metal when you put a cap on. it's sticking out quite a bit. I'd pull the cotton and clean them off and straighten them out. then put new cotton in. coils should stay inside the ring part

But what is the ohm reading supposed to be on for diffrent coils is it supposed to be what it says on the packaging like this here or around that and if its not throw it out?

You mean wattage... depends on the ohm of the coil.

The lower the ohm (.30 ohm) would be ran at a higher wattage than a .85 ohm, which would be ran at a lower wattage.

told diffrent by my vape store
Hate to say it... but 99% of vape store employee's don't know their ass from a hole in the ground when it comes to ohm's law, coils, wattage, and batteries. They are 18 year old kids trying to hold a job from what i've seen here in Orlando.

Okay so how do u know what wattage os too much. When u started getting dry puffs or something i go with what i do with almost every coil on the alien it gives a good throat hit and lots of smoke which i like if i go to low its too weak for me and if i go to high not enough smoke and comes out too fast so is that in a way how you figure it out

Yeah we have mostly adults here that dont say much and always use fda says we cant touch it which i understand but when u ask a question they never can explain it. They just say usually all coils work and you will find your best setting as you go higher in watt and temp and will stay around there. Thats all ive got for the past two years but have been using the rda's for a year now.

WOW! They are just stupid!

I'm typing up a post for you on the coils you have and some ideas on where to start on wattage... standby.

So the coils that i used originally were ..36 ohms then the alien is .45 which we didnt have the problem with but i never changed my temp on itthisbis what it is now is there anything wrong u can see

So --- the coil said it was a .36ohm on the container, yet the MOD is seeing it at .224ohms.... like I said, no two coils are the same or exact.

OK, so .45ohm coil with two coils --- that would be .224ohm then --- which is correct.

So what im asking is with the alien being .45 and it showing .224 ohms is that okay or dangerous

When using a dual coil build deck, and placing two coils in the deck, the Ohm reading is always divided by 2
(example: a .45ohm coil, with two coils, should ohm out to about .224ohm on the mod)
