Mechanical Mods?

I hate to be a newbie, but I have 2 mech mods. One is some shitty fasttech, not even a clone, 9 dollar mod. The other one is an Origin clone from an unknown company. I can't get the origin clone to work because I think it came with a missing contact or something. It won't even fire. What I don't understand is, when I look at mech mod reviews sometimes they say "Oh man, this mechanical mod really hits hard." I mean... how could the mod make a difference if it is basically just straight contact with the battery? Also, the $9 mod I have. It gives pretty shitty vapor production on a fully charged vct3 battery and I have to use my istick 30w. I put my patriot and my 454 big block on it with simple 0.8 ohm dual coil builds and the istick just completely annihilates the mech mod with vapor production. I don't know what I am not understanding here. I made sure the battery doesn't rattle or anything like that and I fully charged it before testing them both with 2 different brand batteries with the same result against the istick 30w. Could someone explain to me what is going on?? I can't imagine I'd need a new mod, I mean it's just a straight connection to the battery just like any other mech mod. Also, it's not a hybrid mod either.

0.8 ohms on a freshly charged battery will only give you 22 watts and will go down from there as the battery drains.
What wattage are you using on your iStick30W for your vape with this build?
With a regulated device you can go higher volts than the 4.2V on a mech, so your gonna get better vapor production.

If your vaping happily at 30W with this build on your iStick you will need to build a lower ohm coil to vape at the same wattage.

Per ohms law, a fresh battery at 4.2v running 30W is about .6 ohms total for the coils.

Remember that the vape quality will go down as the battery drains on a mech mod since there is no regulation to keep the power at the same level like with your iStick.

True Dat! :D

I am new to vaping myself (about two months now). The other night I was dripping on my Mutation X V3 atty with a dual .3 Kanthal build attached to my copper Panzer clone. My clone is high grade with all copper internals and a magnetic switch. It has a voltage drop of around .16 on a fesh battery.
I think it hits so-so, but the owner of a local vape shop tried a hit on it and described it as hitting like a freight train! Now, for shits and giggles, I checked the battery voltage and then I attached the atty to my Sigelei 150 and set the voltage to 3.9 to match. Same voltage (approx.), so you would think it would be the same strength. Nope! The Sig 150 felt more solid., like a fresh cell.
It's all about regulation.

I vape at 24 watts on the istick with the .8 ohm coil build I was using. About an hour ago, right after I made the post, one of the posts came unscrewed and my ohms were fluctuating like crazy, but when I screwed it back down, It must've clipped the other coil's lead so now it's sitting at 1.7 ohms lol. I don't feel like taking it out with all the cotton right now, and I have no more kanthal to build with, but I just put it on my mech mod at 1.7 ohms and vapor production is actually decent now. I haven't studied ohm's law yet, so could you tell me why that happened?

I think I'm really just done with mech mods. I don't see the huge craze about em, I guess it's just the hobbyist's feel to it. It's not worth the danger, the vape quality dying, and the LONG ass charge time for me. Regulated mods are just the way to go. Also, is there a cheap regulated, box mod that can hit 50 watts? I have a $40 budget. I don't want the istick 50w though. I'd also be fine with a clone.

Sounds like one of your coils isnt firing now if your up to 1.7 ohms now when you originally build it as a .8 ohm dual coil setup.

Ohms law is quite important when dealing with mechs, The numbers will tell you the amps (for battery safety you build your coils to be within the amp limit of your battery) You will find time and time again that people recommend you get a ohm meter to test your coils. For a mech, using ohms law, you calculate the volts at 4.2 because thats where a fresh battery starts at. Use your ohm meter and that will give you your resistance. With two numbers you can calculate watts and amps.

Here is a link to a online ohms law calculator, plug in 2 numbers and you can see the rest being calculated for you.

http://www.steam-engine.org/ohm.asp

Please do a little research about ohms law in relation to battery safety so you can build for your mech safely and within the limits of your batteries.

That's what I was saying about the coil. When I tightened the post, it must've clipped a lead and has no connection.
I think I'm done with mech mods unless I have no choice but to use mine. To read ohms I just throw it on top of the istick and fire it a few times to make sure it's definite. I'll buy an ohm/voltage reader when I get the cash. I want one with a voltage reader too just for convenience.

Nice thing about mechs is that they last forever with a little care. No circuit boards to go bad, nothing to break. Ive been vaping awhile and use mechs quite reguarly as my preferred device. I now know at what wattages my juices taste best for me so I can build my coils to a specific resistance that will give me the wattage range I need. I usually change my battery when the vapor goes down some and its usually at 3.7v when I notice it.

Mechs are different from regulated devices, with regulated devices you just press a button and crank up the power, on a mech, to get more/less power you just build your coils to a resistance that will be within your preferred wattage range. Hence the term Mechanical. These new regulated devices kinda spoil new vaporers in terms of not having to learn ohms law and the science behind whats going on when you fire your coils.

Yeah, well I just don't have the time to spend on charging the batteries and I'm not looking to get more than the 2 I have. I also don't have the time to spend building specifically to my mod when I can build, and then regulate to the right wattage.
I think I just found a pretty sick deal:

Seems like you found a great little device to suite your needs and budget :)
Regulated mods sound perfect for your vaping lifestyle :)

:D And I just finished getting that coil out of there. I wasn't going to bother with it until later because it wasn't causing any problems but when I just juiced it up again and fired it, a small piece of kanthal was toughing a positive and negative post, which didn't screw anything up, but it was giving it a burnt taste and was red hot, burning cotton.... no one likes that :D also it seemed potentially dangerous to me.

For alot of people, like myself, vaping becomes more then just a way to stop smoking. It becomes a hobby, so in some cases spending more is the better route to go. In the long run, cost will balance out and if done right, become a plus in savings. As a hobbyist, thats just an added bonus to not smoking anymore.

Learning Ohms law, In My Opinion, increases my liking of vaping. I can challenge myself to make elaborate coils or figure out what ohm my coils will be if I do this or that.
Its also something thats not quickly learned, it takes time and the more you put into it, the more you get back.

I started with an Aspire starter kit moved up to an MVP 2 then a Mech Mod etc...now I have several. My point is I started small, to quit smoking, then realised I like vaping. From there I wanted to know all about it and still do.

Each mod is unique unto itself. My vape isnt the same as yours if we used the same builds etc...for some Mechs are king for others an IPV4. Its personal preference.

I suggest not giving up but give it time and keep trying, safely of course. Learn Ohms law, understand why you are building your coils the way you are etc..get an Ohms meter to check your work, understand how your batteries work and why that matters in relation to the coils you make. Most of all, enjoy what you do....Happy Day to All!!!

With the FDA ready to regulate us back to cigalikes , you might wanna rethink your position . If that happens you're gonna be shit out of luck when the electronics in your regulated devices fail , that's not an if , that's a when .

It amazes me people thinking vape quality is inferior on a mech. Maybe at higher ohms this may be the case.

Some people think mechs are only good for RDA's , my preferred setup is a Rose V2 with a .7ohm build on a Stingray , I can get a days worth of vaping out of a VTC4 or 5 with it . And it feels good in my hand , I much prefer a mech for the aesthetics and the quality of the whole experience .

I guess the FDA is willing to put people back on analogs with no concern to their health. This isn't making sense to me. What is it that makes it so much worse than analogs? Why are analogs going to be legal?

Cigarettes are taxed up the ass, vape supplies aren't. Its always about the almighty dollar. If more and more people move to vaping and the government is unable to rake in all of that cigarette sin tax dough, they're screwed. That money has already been spent, and they're gonna get it one way or another... Even if it kills us.

...and they just love criminalising things that aren't crimes to begin with. Make something innocuous illegal and its a cash cow. Increased revenue from fines, more and more funding for law enforcement, and those privatized prisons aren't going to fill themselves now are they?

Freedom is a fucking fairy tail.

Yeah, I'd rather them tax vaping then completely take it away. Also, I mean, police vape too. What are they going to do? Fucking government. So done. I mean, I just watched a video of @GrimmGreen and they are fucking over Florida. I live in Florida and they are going to classify "nicotine dispensing electronics" (vaporizers) as drug paraphernalia. Seriously?

Remember Sandy Hook where that fucktard shot all of those kids? The police chief and a half dozen others just got arrested for trafficking steroids and c*caine. Chief had like a pound of pure testosterone powder and another pound of powered c*caine at his home. Feds got them on the wire.

Point is, lots of cops might not personally agree with whatever laws happen to be enacted by the shitheads that we keep voting into power, but that doesn't mean they won't take the millions in federal handouts used to enforce the very laws that they happen to disagree with... And they'd toss you or I in the can forever without a single fuck given.

Florida loves putting people in jail too. Especially young people. The millions of blue hairs who migrated there to die wouldn't have it any other way.

They're not concerned with oue health , only money and power . Plus the tobacco companies are still a powerful lobby . They certainly don't want people to stop smoking so they produce an inferior product to ensure that . Ever wonder why a Blu or a Vuse tastes like shit and are totally unreliable , or why Vuse has more warnings on it than a pack of cigarettes ? The warnings are pseudo science and not required by law , pure propaganda . Do you wonder why the FDA wants to limit us to cigalikes . Money talks and bullshit walks , tax dollars take precedence . Best to prepare yourself for the long haul if you want to continue vaping as you know it and that means buying reliable equipment and learning DIY .

For some folks mechanicals are just too much to think about. I highly enjoy the whole process. The twisting and wrapping, getting the hot spots outta the coils-i love it all. There's a great sense of accomplishment for me that comes along with getting a build that just hits right. Some days i do also enjoy just popping my dripper on my Sigelei box (when it decided to work) and just going about my day. There are advantages to both, and i try not to rob myself of a damn fine experience....even if it takes a little work to get there :D

LONG ass charge time

I don't understand how Mechs would need a longer charge time, should be the opposite, since those DNA boards will have a parasitic draw on the battery. Any "electronic switch" will have a parasitic drain, compared to a mechanical one, that's either on or off.

If you want longer run time on a mech, build your coils to a higher resistance, which would lower your amp draw and wattage. My 18650's charge really fast at 1.3A, which is what I usually charge them at, and I don't run them very far down either. They can take up to a 4.5A charging current, which would charge them in no time, slightly reducing their useful life as the trade off. What would regulated devices have anything to do with charge times? Or am I missing something here?

Always look towards the money for your answers. Not only are the Big Tobacco companies losing massive profits, but think about the increase in Social Security the government will have to pay out if they stop killing half a million people who would qualify every year? They COUNT on not having to pay social security to these 500,000 deaths in america every year. Killing them with cigarettes is part of their equation.

Government isn't here to protect us, contrary to what the sheeple want to believe. They are here to enslave us, use us, and steal from us, while brainwashing us to believe in something they call "rights" which is a privilege, that they constantly threaten. The animal kingdom don't need rights, birds don't need a license to fly. Bears don't need a license to fish, etc. We are all born with inherent rights, but the government brainwashes us to think THEY grant us these god-given "things" which aren't even real. "Rights" are an intangible IDEA, that has nothing to do with our well-being or safety - it's their form of CONTROL. They control our population via tobacco - saving billions in Social Security payouts, and that's just one example.

I can take a mech mod out in the rain...drop it in a river while fishing...knock it off the table...and dry it out put in a fresh battery and no harm done.....sure a steady wattage is great,but..I'm just to rough on stuff....they are simple and rugged...I like simple...besides I've vaped on them for years, and I know how to build so that they give me the vape I want.

Theyre more powerful than any regulated device still. Vv/vw is close, but not there yet.
