Need help with TC mod and Ti Coils

Hi All,

I'm new to this forum, but not new to vaping. Been using various VV/VW mods and a week or so ago, I got my first TC mod. A Snow Wolf Mini 75w along with some Ti Grade 1 26 gauge wire to build a dual coil setup on my Goblin tank. I built a .28 ohm dual micro/contact coil setup and for the most part, everything works great, but there are some questions I'd like to see if you can help answer and I apologize in advance if it's too many questions at once, but I figure it's easier to lay them all out and have people answer what they can:

1. The SW Mini doesn't have a Joules setting, so it's either Ti TC mode and you set the temp, Ni200 TC mode and you set the temp, or power mode (i.e. VW mode). Without having a Joules setting, how does this change the characteristics/performance of the TC?
2. I generally keep my temp around 350-400 and everything works fine, but I do still occasionally get dry hits (not full burnt hit although I did get a burnt hit when I tried spaced coils. Anyone know why this would be? Thought TC mode was to help prevent this.
3. For those familiar with the SW Mini setup, to set the resistance, you are to press the minus and power at the same time and it updates the resistance to the atomizer connected. Does this mean if you don't do that, it assumes it's at the last "registered" resistance? If this is the case, perhaps that's why item #2 occurred for me
4. I see a lot about using spaced coils with Ti coils, but I've always built micro/contact coils. Is there a video or somewhere you can point me that helps with a Ti spaced coil build?
5. How do you remove the juice build up from the coils when you are washing out the RBA? I have read in many places that you don't want to dry burn Ti coils, but haven't found another reasonable way to get the gunk off.

I think 5 is plenty for now and I'm sure I'll have many more follow up questions. Thanks in advance!

Hey Tony.
I won't be much help here, but will be checking back, because I'm working through TC/Ti stuff right now as well.

For #4: YouTube has more than you can watch. If you don't find what you're looking for, you're not putting in the right search terms.
The fastest spaced coil I saw someone build was on a Coil Master jig. Mere seconds of twisting, and simply used his fingernails to pull the coils apart. Can't remember the gauge he was using, but did notice that the coils/spacing didn't budge while he was pulling the cotton through.

For #5: Just to get by until I have more time, I've been using rubbing alcohol/cotton to clean the inside and outside of the coils, then letting the alcohol evaporate. Seemed to work well; good flavor after rewicking. But... I wouldn't try that until someone else here chimes in and either OKs it, or calls me a moron. I haven't read up enough on cleaning TC-related coils. There are plenty of threads on it here, though.

Thanks for the info. I'll have to look for some more videos on building the coils. I just did a spaced coil at 0.18 ohms and I'll see how it turns out. So far so good.

So I had the spaced coils and everything was working fine. The mod wasn't hitting as the juice got low. I "reset" the resistance and it jumped from .18 ohms to .29-.35 and after refilling, I started getting burnt hits. Does anyone know why this would happen or what I'm doing wrong?

Not sure if the SW allows you to adjust the wattage for TC independently like the evic VTC mini, something to look into. Or if it just hits with default wattage like a x cube II.

To wrap a spaced coil, wrap a standard contact coil and between the first and last 2 wraps put in fingernails and stretch it out, then pinch it back together, perfectly spaced.

Always, always, set your resistance at ROOM TEMPERATURE! when you apply heat the resistance rises and you'll have a bad ohm reading giving you burnt hits.

As far as gunk use PGA, you can use 90% iso but only on coil, let it evaporate. Do not use iso on your wick, you don't want to inhale that shit. Also you can dry burn ti, but only to a certain point. Blue/green is ok, white powder looking substance, you've gone too far trash the coil.

Thanks Curly! The SW in TC mode doesn't allow for wattage or joules adjustment. The only thing you adjust is the temp and fire it up.

I'll need to check out a couple videos on the spaced coils. I just threw away the spaced coils and built contact coils again at 0.16 ohms. After watching a build of spaced coils, I'll give it another go. How many wraps would I want to do with 26 gauge wire dual coils to hit around .2 ohms?

Do you have a link to PGA? With contact coils, I've done dry burning at under 10w and haven't seen any real color out of it. One time I saw it start turning orange and let go quickly. No white substance was there.

PGA = pure grain alcohol
