I used to ask why so many people watch so many of those stupid shows, then it struck me like lightning: because they have that damn smart phone in their hands all day (texting and facebook), they do not have a life of their own and never do anything that even remotely contains a little action and adventure, so they live vicariously through those stupid TV series,
Believe you summed it up nicely.

So much of that hack and gore stuff on anymore

yep and have never cared for shows that focus on violence and suffering.
Wife has always liked them though.
She dragged me to see pulp fiction with her at the theater.
She will never pay off that debt.

Blow a guys brains out and people laughing in the theater?
Humans...

Many years ago there was a show about home videos (uh, Funniest Home Vidoes?) and I only watched it a few times when I realized that when someone got hurt, that's when the audience laughed loudest. OK, maybe the person who got hurt was an idiot for doing that, but regardless of the stupidity, I have never found that someone getting seriously injured was funny. Yet the audience roared. Why? Are they all closet sadists?

Perhaps because the idiot did something horribly stupid, and shamelessly submitted the video for all the world to watch.

imho all the violence in TV, video games, etc has desensitized the American population to such things. And has made us a less kind society.
I agree wholeheartedly. Hell, that's the only thing on the TV, killing. Children are brought up with people killing one another....and the goberment is worried about flavored ejuice....incredible.

Ahh but humans will focus on things that OTHERS must do to fix things but not on something that THEY must do such as regulate what they and their children watch...
Part of our blameless not my fault society.

When I was in high school, many people thought I was a natural comedian (fat boys usually are and they did not know of my scholarly ambitions).
Today, Lannie tells me I have almost no sense of humor left. I suspect that modern society is responsible for that. Things that most people laugh at are not funny --- they are stupid. I have never laughed at stupidity and it seems that is all we have today.

Or seeing a tractor-trailer try to make a sharp turn onto a narrow street and get stuck. Once was a Swift truck. Phillip took all of 3 minutes to get it when I said " wow, real swift!"
That's fur-shur....like i said yesterday. You can't drive for a mile in any direction around here without seeing some jackass texting while driving.

Just for a slight change of subject matter, we had a visitor today.

eagle.jpg

The bald eagles in South Dakota all live in the Black Hills, which is 75 miles (minimum) from here, yet when we went out for evening chores tonight, there he was, sitting at the top of a Cottonwood tree. We have lots of local hawks, owls, etc., but the eagles are a real rarity out here on the Prairie.

Rich...were the Guinness raising hell about the "Large Bird"......:teehee:
Guinness? You have beer in your thoughts tonight? :giggle: Yes, the Guineas were on full predator alert, which is how we located the eagle (that tree is at the northern boundary of our property and we seldom even look there when headed for the barns). Had he been flying over the pastures, the Pyrs would have also been on alert (we taught them to chase off hawks), but they didn't see him in the tree. The Guineas rarely ever miss any predator.
