Home the ones missing on here tonight are OK.

Well time to sign off and recline a bit and munch of some cashews and sesame sticks with MT Dew.

Little nippy in your neck of the woods, Rich?

Or has that cold blast ventured eastward?
The cold is still here and the 10-day forecast claims it is gonna get even worse (e.g., Thursday's low is likely to be -21 ºF and the probability of wind might make the chill factor -50 to -55 ºF - i.e., exposed flesh, including cow teats, can freeze in 5 minutes). You can believe we are locking everyone inside the barns.

So how in the heck have you been, Rich?....just fighting the elements?
Bet the weekly trip to town will be exciting......:(
Well, I don't really want to discuss "how I've been" on an open forum because there are too many owies in that discussion, so because I don't want to sound like a whining weenie, I'll leave it at "hangin' in there." :)
Weekly trips to town? Oh, you mean my monthly shopping trips. Those seem to involve more owies lately too, but at least I can shift that a day either way so the weather isn't impacting it too much. I have had to cancel all the vet appointments to get the ferals spayed/neutered because the vet is 75 miles (one way) and requires me to show up NLT 8:30 AM and I just cannot make that pressured drive in this weather. Because a couple of the females have come into heat the past couple weeks, I suspect there are some pregnant furries in the garage now (damn it!).

G'nite Dale. I suspect it is time for this old fossil to crawl in the sack too.
Nitey nite to anyone else (Juice?) who might still be conscious and logged on at this hour.

Good evening, Rich, Juice, Don, Bob, et al.......:vino:

Just about had frost on the pumpkin this morning, 38F at 6:00 AM, which is slightly COLD for February.

But I'm sure Juice or Rich could top that previous statement, regarding COLD......

That is pretty cold for the Phoenix area.

Gee, Dale... remember how I said my bod wasn't able to cut firewood this year? Well, we still have none and have been using an electric heater instead of the wood stove. That's a new one for us because we have always, all these years, had the wood stove blazing away, making the house nice and toasty, so we really didn't notice all the cold air that seems to be rushing into the porch because we had a wall of heat before. Now that we have a tiny electric heater running 24/7 (my electric bill this month was $297.42), the wall of cold coming in from the porch is extremely obvious. We hung a queen bed comforter on that doorway in an attempt to block the heat loss. You can see the thing flapping in the wind even though I can find no air leaks other than a bit around the door itself (the rubber foam sticky isn't stopping it). Anyway, Lannie put a thermometer out on the porch on the pantry shelves and it says 32 ºF... Yup, my porch, inside the house, is colder than your garden. Yes, I would love to move to a warmer climate, but I doubt we'll find anyone stupid enough to buy this place.

Damn Rich....I sure wish I could help out in the wood department. That's really fucked up, and I'm sorry to hear this.

Is there anyone selling split seasoned cord wood in your area?
No. There might be some guys harvesting pine out in the Black Hills (75-100 miles from here), and that burns hot and fast, so it is no good for banking the fire to burn all night (oak is best for that in this area, with elm/ash coming in second). The people who live within 50 miles of us are all ranchers and they are too damn busy with their own winter issues to try to run a second business of supplying firewood to old pharts. They have central heating and if they use firewood at all, it is for a mood fireplace. And this place is too old (totally wrong design) to install central heating in, even if we could afford it.

Ahh... kitchen only, meant to look like something turn of the century (19th to 20th), but given that it is Moen, it should work well (or at least they used to).

Yeah my bath has Moen.
worked well for 20 years. But I need to change the cartridge in the tub/shower control as it has started whistling.

Nice faucet, but the soap dispenser is crap. Pita to refill. We had a faucet similar to that, until it started leaking around the base. It lasted 5 years.

Was it a Moen? Just curious.
Yeah most all soap dispensers suck.
I always recommended a snap in plug thing if a SS sink and you had a hose sprayer hole to plug.
Worked for a few years as a Plumbing Pro at Lowes.

It was a Moen. My stepdad was rough on the handle, and caused the leak. After he passed, I replaced the faucet.

Worked on the Balzer today.

No heat! Damn climate control puter seems to have died...
And the heat/ac door is controlled by the puter.
Must remove dash to get to it...
Finally found a schematic on the web and found the wires going to the servo mechanism.
Took a 3 cell 18650 sled and breadboarded up a control mechanism found the wires to the servo, cut them and hooked my little engineered nightmare and ran the servo and opened up the heat door. :bliss:

Been studying the climate control system all computer controlled.
Computer box looks to be a dealer item at over $200.
Can make up an Arduino box to do it all for around $30

Ordered the 6 relay module to control the vacuum solenoids to control all the def, floor, etc flappers. $7
Have a servo control module for the heat/AC blend door servo.
Temp sensors will input to the Arduino...

Should have it all done before AC season...

The hard part was finding a schematic....

My favorite uncle, age 72, told me he is buying a house and moving from his assisted living complex because he does not like being around old people. *sigh*

We persuaded him to move there about a year ago because he is losing his marbles

No spouse or kids of his own to take control here :gaah:

-16 ºF with about 10 mph wind (-36 ºF wind chill). The forecast is still saying we will get down to -21ºF with 30 mph wind (chill factor of -55 ºF). I hope to gawd they are wrong on both temp and wind because it is so fucking nasty out there at the moment I have to wear a face mask, which means I can't wear my glasses, but that's not a big deal because for several days now my vision in my "good" eye has been worse than that of my "bad" eye (i.e., I can't see shit and I am typing this crap with my nose only inches from the screen).

That's in Faith. My reading here at Love Acres is currently -17.8 ºF with 15 mph so the chill factor is -42.2 ºF (pre-2001 calculator would be -55.17 ºF). Either way, it is cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey.

Doubt anyone would recognize the photo now, prolly look like someone took whiteout (or whitewash) to the photos.
At the moment, the only green (as seen from the space photo) is the tippy tops of the pine trees. All the others have no leaves and most of the junipers are covered in white.
Altho it does look like a nice homestead during summer months.
Yeah, we really like it here 6-8 months out of the year.

Replaced all the wicks in the squonkers this evening, my what a lil new rayon will do to improve flavor. Have Butterbeer in two and Scotchcake in the other two............TLC was definitely in-order.

Does the rootbeer seem to fade for you?

It's been sitting for a few weeks since I was away, although it still seemed the RB really faded considerably. I just added a couple more grams, all is well again.

Yes. Over time, the power of the RB to come through fades considerably. It also fades the higher the wattage I use. Seems to be there at 5W but not at 15+. Luckily, for me anyway, it is just a background flavor and it is the Butterscotch I dwell on. Sadly, the last batch Lannie made up for me tasted really nasty. We snooped in all the flavor bottles and found the Flavor West butterscotch smelled like acetone and the taste was heavily metallic. Gonna buy someone else's flavor now and flush that one. Too bad we have to waste that bottle, but I cannot seem to add anything to it to make it acceptable, so it is garbage.

Well, gonna have a few more sucks on my baby istick, then crawl under the covers and hope we do not have that -21 temperature in the morning. Yak at ya tomorrow.

Well, the weather guessers were damn close this morning. They said the low would be -21 ºF and we hit -20 ºF at about 3 AM. I have no way to record the local wind and I wasn't up at that time, but given how close they were on the temperature, I'm gonna give them credit on the wind (30-35 mph), which would make the chill factor approximately -55 ºF. By the time we got our butts outside for morning chores, it was up to -10 ºF with wind 10-15 mph, making the wind chill about -30 ºF, so the face mask was still necessary. Oh well, Spring will be here in... when? A couple years? decades? o_O
