Juice....I have about 10 lbs of Thai coconut meat and juice in the freezer...I'm going to try the coconut water Kefir, after I get more of the kefir grains growing. That would be a fine drink for Hawaii....!

I so rarely drink any form of booze these days... always had a Black Russian or Bicardi & Coke back in the days when I was a dancing fool at the local bars. All the husbands went hunting and it was my personal responsibility to dance all night with 40 wives... :)

I also do my best to stay away from anything fermented because I don't want anything fungal in my system (yeast, mold, etc, can be very sickening).
That fermented bateria is the best thing for anyone. I don't have a gallbladder, it helps with digestion too.

That sounds great - I'll have to check out the kefir starter for water you talked about earlier

I really didn't think anyone was going to show up here tonight...

Temp here was about the same as yesterday, but humidity was higher (thunderstorms lurking on all sides with occasional showers on us), so while I attempted to weed-whack around the house, shop and garage, I had to stop every couple minutes to wipe the sweat off my face and dry off my glasses (couldn't see through the sweat that was dripping on them), so that task took twice as long as it should have.

Can't afford that brand, but my Brand X stuff looks a lot like Carharts.

That's fer sure! However, the next week is projected to be lows 70s or high 60s with this Sunday being the only day without thunderstorms.
I think our forecast is about double what yours is......120-140.....

Actually, anything over 108-110, feels the same, just fucking HOT

I agree, but at least your humidity is significantly lower (by more than half) what ours is and that's the part that kills us at higher temps.

Afternoon sun (both here and there) can be a killer to the 'maters. We put our tubs on the east side of tall lilacs, but given that you didn't actually plant your garden this year, your best bet is likely to pound in some tall stakes and string something opaque (or at least translucent) on the west side of those plants.

I have some shade screen meant for windows, may work, hate to invest in something that came up by itself.....:teehee:

I'm still not sure what kind of melons these are, look like Honeydew, but their bigger than honeydews. Never grew melons in the past.

do watermelons change their skin complexion as they grow?

If you never grew them, chances are this is a seed gift from a neighbor's garden via bird. And yes, watermelons do change color as they grow, but not radically enough to confuse them with Honeydews. They go grayish to light to darker green and higher contrast between light and dark stripes. I don't plant them myself because, even though I enjoy the taste of watermelons, they usually have a bazillion seeds and my dentures hate those (spit spit spit). Grandma always told me that if I swallowed those, I'd grow melons out my ears.

The melons are growing from the compost I been tossing in the garden, hell there are prolly ten melon plants growing, but the first one that came up a couple months ago has what look like honeydews, prolly are, but I don't eat many honeydews, I was hoping for watermelons.

So these might be seeded from the garbage of your meals? Usually, store-bought melon seeds rarely sprout (something about their processing makes the seeds non-viable). But maybe you just got lucky. We just had melons with dinner tonight that Lannie canned last year. Yummy.

Naw, I can't elope; I'm already married. :D Actually, they were squashes (close relative).
Lannie slices and dices and cooks 'em and bottles 'em and we take 'em out and warm 'em up and eat 'em like smashed orange 'taters. Just the right stuff to compliment her meat loaf.

I gotta hit the hay too. Past midnight and my coach is turning into a Honeydew (or honey don't?)... uh, er, pumpkin.

I actually DID can melons once... it didn't work. The seals failed on all the jars after a couple weeks. I figured since there was a "recipe" in the Ball canning book for melons, it should work, but I must have done something wrong. First canning failure I've ever had, and it broke our hearts to have to dump all those melon cubes into the pit. So now I freeze them. Don't have any growing this year because of the late start to the garden. Even when I get stuff started in the house and out in the garden by the first of May, it's iffy whether the melons will be ready by first frost. So I didn't even attempt them this year. Boo. It's about the only sweet fruit we ever get. The chokecherries, pie cherries (not that we get those, the birds eat them all), and wild plums are sour and astringent.

That butternut squash, however, cans beautifully. Last year I let them go too long out in the garden, though, and I couldn't peel them AT ALL, so I baked them whole to soften them up, then took out the pulp, mashed it up and froze it in zip-locks. I have some canned on the shelves, too. :)

Can't really say our weather was much better. Overcast with embedded thunderstorms. High temp was only 58 ºF with winds 30G40 (heat index cancelled by wind, "feel like" 52 ºF) so we were wearing coats to do chores. One giant mutha thunderbumper cruised by barely south of us and it was so black it looked like the end of the world could be any moment. The pouring rain coming out of that wasn't right on us (thank gawd), so we only got small sprinkles blowing onto us from that cloud.

I heard falling into the sun would be a "dry heat" too, but I don't think I want to try it.

Anyway, we received the kratom order today, so I spent quite a while stuffing capsules, because Lannie had just run out of the "sample" stuff and she's really liking this stuff.

I've got to try that some day, Rich let me know how it works for you buddy
I am not using it yet. Lannie is using it and she no longer needs the hydrocodone or Advil or any of that stuff. This stuff ain't cheap, but as long as it is working so well for her, I am willing to pay the price --- kratom+shipping+00 capsules, not including my labor to stuff them, is about $110 for a three month supply at her current consumption rate. Because I get my hydrocodone from the VA at only $8/month, I am gonna stay on that shit until I win the lottery. :)

I guess so and this boat sucks:( yeah this is gonna take some getting use to:gaah:
Yeah, I know. It is no fun being almost blind in one eye (and that was my sighting eye). Add almost deaf even with two hearing aides... but never mind my bitches. I know you will find a way to handle it because of all the other crap in your life that you are staying one step ahead of. You are strong. You will beat this.

Regarding the kratom (by the way, thank you VERY much, Dale!), I take two capsules four times a day, which is less than a minimum dose, according to what I've read. The only really bad pain I have is my knees, especially the right one, because of stretching or tearing the ligaments because I'm clumsy and I trip and fall down on frozen cow plops and stairs and dead branches and stuff. I can't even remember all the times I've blown out my knees... The rest of my "aches and pains" are just normal everyday strains and sore muscles from working, but they still add up to a big hurt. This stuff doesn't completely get rid of the pain in my right knee (at the dose I'm taking it), but it makes it so that it's not that noticeable, and the rest of me feels great.

I spend most of my day walking around the back yard with one or the other of the house dogs, in addition to morning and evening chores, and most days being on my feet in the kitchen all day, so being able to get up and down from sitting without any stabbing knife-in-my-knee pain, and being able to walk around outside for hours a day is NICE. And that's not all, there's a LOT of walking, bending, chasing, darting, spinning, and dodging when you have a farm and lots of critters (including two naughty teenage heifers and their mothers). It ALL adds up, and I'm not twenty years old anymore. ;)

I don't know how much Rich would need to take for all of his various pains, but I'm pretty sure it would be a lot more than what I'm taking. So, Jimi, depending on your level of pain, and the amount of money in your wallet every month, this might work for you, or it might be prohibitively expensive. I know it would be too expensive for us if Rich was taking it, too. I read in my herb encyclopedia that it and hydrocodone type products cancel each other out, so neither one will work as effectively if you take them concurrently. So basically, you choose one or the other. I like the kratom because it works much better for me, but I still take a couple of Advil before bed if my knee is complaining because I don't want the kratom late in the day. It kind of acts like too much coffee or nic after a couple doses, and I don't want to stay awake all night. I also don't want to stay awake trying to find a comfortable position for my aching knee, either, so if I'm feeling that at all, I'll take a couple Advil before bed and then I can sleep. Trying to tromp through shin-high mud puts a lot of strain on my bad knee, so it's been howling at me a lot lately, but the kratom keeps it down to a dull roar. :)

I'm extremely happy with it, and so glad we got to try some. I wouldn't have gotten it (at the price it goes for) if I hadn't already known how well it works for me. Now I hope I never run out! :D

Thank you Lannie for all the information, I currently take hydrocodone for many many years for my knees, both are bone on bone, and just want something to manage the pain naturally. I think I am going to save up and give some a try, where are you ordering from if you don't mind me asking?
Thanks again for all your input, it's much appreciated:)

I get my Kratom from here: https://mitragaia.com/
I think Dale gets his from another place. He says higher quality, but the price is higher too.
trying several ones. fav so far is the Red Bali.
Green Borneo is good too.

Does not work as good as prescription pain pills for me.

Ohh and Jimi, btw.
The names like Red, green, white, etc on the Kratom mean nothing as far as appearance goes.
It is all green in color and tastes like rabbit food.
