Yes Nutmeg is a strong sleep aid "IF" you grind it fresh and put it in caps freeze what you don't use for up to 3 weeks, just be careful of the dose it's very potent;)
That is really interesting. I don't believe I've heard anything about nutmeg helping with sleep. Where you you buy your nutmeg, @Jimi ?

Oh I know how important sleep is, lately I been sleeping so-so, but any "natural" help is a good thing. I'll stop at Trader Joes on the way home tomorrow

I get mine at a regular health food store but they have them on Amazon, just be sure to get the whole nut and grind it yourself, it will make you sleep like a baby

I really LOVE the flavor of nutmeg, I put bottled pre-ground nutmeg in my smoothies once in awhile, but I've never seen the whole nuts in the past

Yes, once it's ground it has to be put in caps and put in the freezer. Only grind one nut and then grind the next when you are done with the first nut;).
Got it, thanks for the help

Both of you guys please be really careful with nutmeg. Not only is is hallucinogenic, but if you consume an amount equal to the whole nut at one sitting, you WILL get very dead. If you use it all, use it in very tiny portions. As a spice, it is used only as a few flakes.

Nice and sunny, 61 degrees, but with more of that damn 30-40 mph wind. I really need to change out the window screens for the storm windows, but couldn't chance doing that in this wind. Supposed to be warmer with less wind tomorrow. Then warmer yet the next day. Then below freezing with about 5" of snow. Shiiiitttttt........

Consuming .2 ounces can cause convulsions while eating .3 ounces can stir up hallucinations. For those who feel a bit braver, they can eat a whole nutmeg, but be warned, you'll enter what's called “nutmeg psychosis,” which can lead to death.Dec 5, 2017

It won't be around long...warming again
I am not sure I believe their forecast anyway. Either it won't happen at all or it'll be a whole foot. I mean, think about the typical day when in the morning they say it will be sunny and we are having rain. These bozos don't have a clue what is happening on the same day, much less what will happen three days from now.

Agree.....I was looking at the future forecast like you may, but I don't have any professional knowledge like yourself. I'd bet it doesn't get that cold tho. BUT...It may feel like it if the winds are as strong as they claim

I've put shitloads of nutmeg in say, oatmeal..or similar items, but it was always store bought ground type, which is probably garbage

Think about wind chill factor. It was 61ºF today and with 40 mph wind, that makes it feel like 56 ºF. Not a big difference. But say you have the same wind at 35ºF... then it feels like 20 ºF. The water in the trough doesn't actually freeze, but your skin is getting frost bite anyway.

True, never thought of wind chills in that fashion

The big trick here is fresh versus powdered and dried and stored at room temperature. The stuff you buy in the spice shaker at the store might have a nice flavor, but it has no potency.

Damn near everything you buy in a health food store is that way, and very likely everything on the spice rack in any grocery store. Pay attention to the ingredients label and see if you find the word "silica" anywhere in there. That is another way of saying this product is about half SAND!

As of this morning, the forecast now is for 10 inches, between Wednesday night and Friday noon. And it WILL get that cold, I have no doubt. 10 inches of snow with wind (drifts) and no Bobcat? We are fucked. The pasture grass will be covered, and the round bales are crappy old hay from a couple years ago, and they're almost gone. Our hay guy has our hay for this year cut and baled, but hasn't delivered yet, so pray that this crap melts fast so he can get in here and deliver it fast, or the grazers will be out there shivering with no hay to eat to keep them warm.
