That's what I can't figure. I also can't figure these people whose spouses have this irrational hatred of vaping, have swallowed the media BS hook, line, and sinker. I could never marry anyone that stupid in the first place, nevermind STAY married to them, and if my husband says something that's blatantly wrong, I certainly don't let it pass -- that's what wives are for, right? To keep their husbands from being wrong so often? ;)

Well, women are always right, for one thing. After I switched from coffin nails to vaping, I got my mother to switch, and then my husband.
If anything, he whines when I get attys that don't require factory coils. It'll be his ass when he can't buy his factory coils anymore.

Our biggest single problem is no long term view.
We are a I want MINE now country.

Children inherit what their parents spent a lifetime building and squander it in short order on cars, boats, etc...

Not all of us do that. When we had our backs up against the wall and were soon probably going to be homeless, we found that the only way we could escape that fate was: BUY A HOUSE! The only way we could conceivably do that was to pay off a few thousand in debt to raise my husband's credit score so that he could capitalize on his VA loan bennies -- to that end, my parents went into their savings and gave us $6k, which they said would be deducted from our inheritance -- it was barely enough, but somehow we made it happen... we closed, from contract signing to contract closing, on a VA loan, in 26 days.

Since then, we've further extricated ourselves from the debt quicksand -- we still have debt, but it's all current, "pays as agreed", and compared to most others in the US, it's actually not a huge amount. I was just glad that before my mom died, she saw how we had managed to turn things around, strictly with the help she and my stepdad were willing, and able, to offer. There was still a lot of work and scrimping to be done, but buying the house, in the fall of 2011, was exactly the right thing at the right time.

When we got this house, we bought it directly from the seller in payments. For a run down fixer upper, we paid out 12K in 4 years, and fixed it up. I just got down putting new siding, and just need to put up some more new trim. We even did our own add-ons ourselves.
I got nothing but grief from my adoptive parents, and my biological mother is dirt poor. There was no asking for money.
We never had credit cards. We could not build credit, but we could not build debt either. We just live within our means. If we cannot afford something, we just do without it.

@AndriaD I love the Kindle app. I have read more in the past couple of years than in the dozen years before that. So nice for traveling, too, that you can take however many books with you, and choose later what you want to read.

That's more or less why I was interested in looking in to ebooks; when I graduated from HS, I was all, oh good, no more armfuls of books, they weigh a fucking TON -- yet decades later, there I was tromping in and out the library with arms full of heavy books. I wasn't sure I would like ebooks, because I really enjoyed the whole "book" experience -- the tactile object, waiting patiently for you to pick it up again, and the libraries, oh lordy how I love libraries! And still do, and the library system in Gwinnett county is VAST, and has a fair amount online too -- and I discovered that this ebook biz is right up my damn alley! I think I have something over 500+ now in my Kindle cloud. Many of them I already read, and it's in the cloud, not cluttering up my phone, so I just leave 'em in there. There are also many hundred I haven't read, because I keep getting sidetracked, get started on a series and can't quit it till the author does. :D I'm going BANANAS waiting for the next Outlander! But currently on the 4th book of a fucking hilarious series about an immortal man who's really just in it to drink a lot and pick up chicks, but idiots keep trying to either kill him or harvest his immortality for themselves. IT'S A RIOT!!! :giggle: :giggle: :giggle:

Congratulations, @AndriaD !

Good evening Pharts. How's everyone?
Tired...
Started cleaning up burned down workshop building.
Got about 1/3 of the metal roofing drug out and flattened enough to haul off.
Dumped about 10 wheelbarrow loads of cinders over the hillside.
Gathered and piled up about a pickup load of charred timbers...
Just getting started.

Was a nice day for it though. Sunny and around 50 deg. 1-4 inches of snow tomorrow night though....

Yes, that's nice weather if you have to be working outdoors. Sounds like a very strenuous day. Bet you'll sleep well tonight.

Speaking of sleep, I'm going there. Night all.

Busy day, Crom, and no doubt extremely tiring, but Conga Rats on getting so much done. We got up to 37 degrees (momentarily - it is 22 now) and I did, after much battery charging and spraying ether on the air cleaner, get old Bob started, then I pulled it out of the garage to clean off all my paths and ,,, yup, it started snowing. Luckily, there was very little accumulation, but we have snow in the forecast for several more days. I wonder if Spring is ever going to happen here, or if we'll just wake up in May to full Summer.

I would appreciate it if all posters in this thread would please review the addendum edited into the end of the opening post in this thread.

No fingers are being pointed. A few of us (self included) had drifted in directions of discussion that I never intended this thread to go.
Well yes pointing finger at self.
And my apologies to all.

Does that mean I can put the biscuits away?

You're always throwing those licked biscuits at me Robert
Well I know that bears will eat about anything.
Me? I like the jam better than the biscuit but it does not throw worth a darn without the biscuit.

I think I'll just stay in the fugee thread. Only rules there are the regular VU rules, and GFY. I really hate rules, and abide by the VU rules only because I like VU enough to stick around and not get evicted. Anymore rules than those set by VU, are just too damn many rules.

Andria will miss out on the biscuits I guess.

Different threads for different things and folks.
VU has pretty much a place for everyone.
