OK ... So I made up a 10 ml sample with no flavouring. Just 80/20 VG/PG and 3mg nic strength. I shook up the 'working' bottle of nic VERY well before adding it and then shook up the mixture as well. I'm finding it a TAD harsh but not really that bad at all and there's a slight peppery taste but very minimal. I think I'm going to store the working bottle of nic in the fridge for now and do another test against the remaining nic that has been kept in the fridge since I got it. I also added a bit more VG to the last harsh mixtures I made and it seemed to help them a bit.

So now I'm wondering if I just didn't shake the nic up enough before adding it to my mixtures or perhaps some of my flavours are a bit high. I'll be sure to report back after I compare to the nic I've kept in the fridge.
  • Some flavors are known to give the same harsh / peppery hits. Vanilla Bean Ice Cream being one of them. I do not have a full list.
  • Some people are allergic to PG and have to have more VG in their mixes. This *could* cause a harsh taste as well. Move your VG up by 10 at a time to identify what your preference is.
  • Some flavors can cover up the harsh / peppery hit of the oxidized nicotine so that you never notice it.

With this being said... Remember that the more VG you have in your base, the more "cloud" will be produced, and the less flavor your mix will have. PG is a known carrier for flavor / robustness of flavor. VG is known to mute the flavors. Some have said that when you add more VG (when you get to what is called "Max VG") you have to have more flavoring in the mix to be able to get the proper taste that you would have gotten on a 50/50 mix.

I've vaped the store bought stuff from 60 VG all the way up to Max VG and have not noticed any PG problems. My preference is generally around 80/20 so that's what I've been mixing at. I figure that a +-5% variance shouldn't matter too much.

As for the peppery taste isn't that normal for nicotine? I guess I'll have a better understanding when I compare it to the fridge stored nic. ;) I'm thinking that on my next purchase of nic I may try the 50/50 blend. Since my nic is so low I should still be able to run 80/20 for most recipes.

I can easily say NO to this statement. I have tried many different vendors NIC and they are all different.
So far, Vapers Tek and ChemNIC have been 100% no smell, no taste, no harsh throat hit, no peppery taste.
I just got my order of MyFreedomSmokes nicotine in and got it separated last weekend. I will be testing and mixing with it in the next day or two (I hope, been really busy lately).

Disclaimer -- Everyone is different and things effect them differently. These are the Nicotine preferences of myself and my wife.
