Imo a tripple is more practical. Plenty of power if you build low enough (which isn't hard with staples, you just add more ply) and still pocket friendly.

Behommoth I made earlier...
Staggered Ribbon Frame Skip Fused Staggerton...
One half is 4PLY Frames and one Half is 3PLY Frames....I fucked up even using mag goggles..the center was supposed to be 4PLY and the outer frames were supposed to be 3PLY.

Kind of a lame build but I wanted to practice my spacing. While not super difficult it does take some practice to make it somewhat consistent. Also this should have been done in 38g but I had decore left over. Oh well.

Regarding gauging the right "wire" to use on a certain build has there been a discussion on this in the past?

What gauge is the alien you used and why should it had been 38 instead?

Look at it! It looks like it's wearing snow tires!

There is no right gauge. You use what you want but after you've done so much you start getting critical of your builds.
Which is why I spent an hour making these and almost canned them after I coiled it. But the n80 and the SS was gonna color so it maje it farther and farthere and now I've got the first under 100w vape I've had in a long time.

Yeah, it just looks odd. If it wasn't spaced it would look ok. 38g would look better on this but if it were 6 or 8 ply the 36g wouldn't stand out so much.

If it makes you feel any better I spent the morning fucking up 26/38 framed alien staples, fuckin miserable bastards. I walked away and started eating M&Ms, fuck em

How many ply and what decore size?
Odds are you can use the next size up for the decore, understretch and just keep tension on it while you hold the drill wide open. I have an easier time this way.
As you go up in the gauges you can get away with less and less stretch. 36 needs less than 34 and 38 needs less than 36...

I just have a hard time handling 38 decores, 34 & 36 no problems, 38 & 40 big problems, i just dont have the feel for those gauges yet. Theyre getting better, getting 2.5"-3" before I fuck up so another day or so n il have it down. Just not today

I need a better camera! I hate these crappy blurry photos. Anyways, thanks raymo for the tips. I don't have it down yet but I actually have (6) 0.4 ribbon Kan cores (used the VG trick!) stagger wrapped with 34GA Kan, framed in 26GA ni80, fused with 36GA ni80. So I guess I was attempting a staggerton type build but the wire shot is about the only part that turned out. The coil shot is ugly...I know. I couldn't see the damn wires and it gave me a nasty headache trying. I need some mag goggles got sure. Then the frames wanted to roll around the ribbon and make a triangle. It was bad but I won't stop til I get a nice one! I will not be ashamed! I'm gonna mount em up tomorrow and see if they'll color up.20161231_113945.jpg 20161231_114027.jpg

Can someone take a pic of a good hand vise good for building? I seen a few examples on Google but not sure how you can spin a drill with the ones I've seen. Are they big or little? I'm having such a hard time keeping multi wires flat.

Handvise Link this is the only one that fits a drill chuck....there arent too many options, a good set of nylon pliers are also a must

If you have twisting issues just let the wire hand and fuse it with the end floating in the air...pinch it with nylon pliers every inch and go slow and use very little tension and wrap pressure while fusing

Also if you want to take good pics with your phone invest in a Zomei 37mm Macro clip on...makes a world of difference, LINK (Grab Silver or black, not the clip)

Dude you are my f-ing hero! I'm guessing that the macro lens will fit on just about any phone and that thing looks boss! I can see why the hand vise is a must have as well. You guys must use a little math to make your core the same width as the frame. On those crappy coils I just posted, the core ribbon was wider than the frames and they wouldn't mount right in the drill chuck. Plus I didn't have the ribbon turned the correct way making it even harder lol. Its a learning process. Dude I want to thank you for the VG tip, that shit worked great! That's the first time I've gotten the ribbon to stay in place while I worked with it and no was on the verge of throwing that shit away and never using it again! I'll try again and keep you posted Jedi master. I can be your padiwan:hug:

Use this as your reference for Ribbon
.3R use 30g Frames, you can also use 28g but the ribbon can turn easier with larger frames.
.4R use 28g Frames
.5R use 26g Frames

When you get your wire all set up in your hand and are about to put it in the chuck you should try having a candle lit or use a hot glue gun and you can glue the end together and have it all setup for the chuck, that way it has a harder time coming apart...

Try using Ribbon Sliders on the rest of the length...Loosely wrap Ribbon wire around the wires and pinch lightly with nylon pliers, these Ribbon sliders will slide up and down the length while giving a rigid structure to your length.

That is freakin genius. My main enemy is the wires not staying in position. I already have the macro lens in my cart and probably going for the hand vise as well. I really appreciate the advise. I never thought building coils would be so fun and now I can't even pick up my guitar without thinking the E-A-D strings would make decent claptons lol

Every time I go to the store I look at everything...to see if I could use it to make building easier...Ive used just about everything in Walmart at some point to help...clothes pins, stereo connectors, potato chip bag clips, key-chain loops, paperclips, hair clips, and thats to see if they would keep cores flat. Its a crafty way of opening your eyes to getting more use out of things and I see it as a specialized skill for if SHTF....everyone could use a Mcgyver.

Ya know that's what I try to tell people that insist on buying prebuillt coil heads. Buy an rda or rta or whatever, build your own coils, and you get a much better vape, with a hundred options, waaaayyy better flavor, more clouds, and honestly if you don't count labor it's much cheaper. I'm a cheapskate, always have been. When I smoked I eventually wound up buying a fancy roller and making my own damn cigs. I could make a carton for a third of the price. I have the same mindset for vaping. I want the best vape for the lowest price. If I have to work a little harder for it then so be it, I'm cool with that. Plus in have a lot of fun building, and mixing, and tinkering. Some people like things easy, I like a challenge! Happy New year bro!

Dude you should consider entering Coil Wars for real. I watch Ohm Boy Josh a lot on YouTube and he puts on a coil building competition. They've only had one Done at and the next one is gearing up. I firmly believe you could win it. Don't get me wrong, the people last year were great builders, really great, but what I've seen from you has blown my mind. I'm not trying to toot your whistle or kiss ass, I've just been amazed at the coils I've seen! They have different rounds with different types of coils and you can win the title and some pretty badass prizes. They should see what you got

Oh yea I remember the bridge coil, and I'm how you lost that round. Turned out pretty badass imo but it's up to the judges. Seems like they should let the viewers choose. Most people watching coil wars are either new builders or seasoned ones so votes would mean something. What's up with ghost vapor? I seen a couple of his vids but lost attention quick.

That build in the pharaoh is sick...good teamate for sure! Looks like 15 different coils all mashed into one massive hybrid

I tried giving him tips on his builds on youtube and he either misunderstood or took it as me picking on him....he responded with unkind words and blocked me from his channel....that was a few months before coilwars. I did mention when I found out he would be judging that I knew I would loose that round...was kinda hoping he would judge the builds rather then personal issues but Im unsure if it was due to personal problems with me or did he really feel mine was the worse build up there....who knows.

On a brighter note, this is something I made tonight but I think Im going to try it again tomorrow...I got enough made for a couple wraps but I wanted 4 perfectly done wraps so it will just be wire porn for now.

All .4R and 46g....46g Stagger and Fuse, a nightmare...even with my new lighting and 8x magnification...

One Skip Fused and another Full Fused

Yea ghost guy probably didn't understand you lol he can hardly speak English himself. I hate that all went down like that but it is what it is.
I was looking at some mag glasses on eBay earlier that have round things that fit right onto each eye rather than a single piece that sits far away. Then, on each little eye piece it has an led light that's angled to the center. It looks pretty good and not bad for $12. http://m.ebay.com/itm?itemId=331567620960 I think I'll check em out. Hell I found out the other night that with those small wires like 36GA and up, or trying to stagger wires, you need goggles unless your a damn eagle or superman or some crap.

Just ventured into ribbon wire. Had to make something with it off the bat. Like a kid at Christmas. Gotta play with new toys right away. 26g K claptoned with 36g 316L and spaced wrap of .4 K.

Simple. But effective. Super aggressive on the cricket. Have a similar build on another deck (26k wrapped with 32k) This one is violent by comparison. Maybe just a bit too aggressive. Hits like a train. Firing it without the cap off was impressive. Cranks some serious steam. Much more productive that I thought it would be.

That's a good thought...never crossed my mind about the weight of it. I like the form factor, and they look like they fold up nice and small for storing, but none of that matters if you can't keep them on or get a massive migrane from the weight. Another con might be that you can't just tilt your head back and see with your regular eyes. Too much to consider lol

Yes it is sir. Those reds nearly match identically. An agressive looking setup for an aggressive vape

I like it. Has become my daily carry for work. And anywhere I can set it somewhere safe (and not in my pocket.)

Only downside is no lock, so on-the-go anywhere, gotta take a regulated. Plus method of removing batteries and amount of cleaning required kinda sucks. But gotta pay to play. Worth it.

Would be way cooler if it held a 24mm atty too. Pretty limited with a 22. Just too small to get most fused claptons into. Kinda a catch-22. Need a good amount of wire, but need to build comparatively high. And tough to stuff enough wraps of 28g fused in there neatly.

You said it bro. Idk how some people can build to a .25 and safely enjoy the NC. If I carry around my NC I usually turn the fire button upside down but it's a pain to flip back over and vape. I preordered the nc-2 from China back in Sept (yea I know I'm a fucking idiot) and I still haven't got it in the mail. What's cool about the new NC is it's made for 24mm attys, you can easily lock it, spring loaded 510, and parallel mode. If I ever get it in the mail I'll let you know if its worth using.

Damn i want an engine so bad. Its definitely the next thing on my most wanted list. I was tore between the Merlin mini, limitless classic rdta, and the engine. I got the other two and put the engine on the wish list. Btw, whered you get your goon clone from? I usually get my clone rda's from efun.top. I like to get a clone before I buy the real deal and the ones on get from them are so good I don't even get the authentic. No bull they are impressive, even the packaging. Nice aliens by the way. I like the extra little space on the goon build. Its cool to see the 3 core wires peeking out.

The engine gets awful hot with more than about 70w cranking through it. I think mostly due to only having the top airflow. Not "amazing" flavor, but better than limitless. And absolutely no possibility of leaking other than through the fill port on top. And even then you would probably have to try to make it leak. Good "on the go" tank for activities. Set it and forget it. But this tank is why I finally decided to get an ultrasonic cleaner. Wierd taste even after manual cleaning until i put it in the ultrasonic.

Got the goon clone on ebay from seller Hoshik87. Still have not wicked and ripped it yet, but looks good and quick shipping from USA. Filed down the bottom side of the top clamp to be more like the authentic's bevel, as recommended by @raymo2u in another thread.

As far as the spacing on the aliens, I am just getting my feet wet making the aliens, so any spacing (or tight wraps) is purely coincidental.
