The issue with pulse/burst power vs continuous is the same that we have with peak power vs rms on speakers... advertising just the peak or pulse or burst is a marketing ploy and doesn't represent the battery ( or speaker ) on a level ground ( so to speak ). In fact, both numbers are important just depending on the application... Saying that the pulse value is the one that is important because that's what vapor's use... ignores that many other people use them in other areas... most notably flashlights as just one example..

I used to install car stereos on and off for 15 years.
Someone would call me and say "I got this 4000 watt amp..." I would think bullshit more like 125 watts X 2 RMS
4000 watts @ 1k with 5% THD LOL

With the cheap ass 12" sub woofers rated at 2000 watts (peak, of course) making noises that sound nothing at all like bass.
More like a crackling popping sound with a foul smell of burning speaker coils! :D

In 1993 I had a 1986 Ford Escort with 4 12" Rockford Fosgate Punch subs hooked to a Kenwood KAC-1021 amplifier.
220 X 2 RMS @ 4 Ohms and 175 X 4 @ 2 Ohms

700 watts of real RMS bass - Shit was REAL!!! This was way back in 1993.
People would turn their heads and look from 5 blocks away:D

What can I say? I was 18 years old:eek:

My friend Bruce had this beat up conversion van with DOUBLE what I had.
8 - 12" Subs and 2 Kenwood 1021's.
He has 4 other amps for mids and highs.
We were in the parking at an IASCA competition showing it off and the people with the company cars an trucks (Kenwood, Orion, Soundstream, etc...) sent someone over to ask us to turn it down so they could sell some of their stuff.
There was about 40 people standing around his beat up van and less and less people were paying attention to the show cars.
It was fun to be young:)

No worries he won't die from a blown off hand, just stop the blood and get to a hospital & you'll be fine:D

If we see him on youtube only using his left hand we will know what happened then:D

I wonder if he adds that warning to the builds he sells on eBay? :D

Those tube amps are rated at 30 watts RMS @ .0000007 THD (total harmonic distortion)
Phoenix Gold Car amps used to be rated like that back in the day.
That's why the guy with a car in the 500 watts and down class can have a louder crisper sounding system that a guy in the 2000 watts and up class.

I knew a guy who was a big time audiophile, built his own speakers and amp/preamps. He built a 5Kw 2 channel tube amp with output tubes from a defunct am radio station, the damn things had water cooling jackets! Great sound, really, really low THD. He had a problem, the only way he could get enough power to the amp was to wire it up 240V 2 phase. When ever he powered the amp up fully the lights would dim in the house for a moment. With Tubes that big, you have to keep them partially powered to keep them warm, or they don't last very long.

In the US we do not call anything two phase unless we are only using two conductors derived from a 3 phase system. It's either single or three phase. ;)

There was a car amplifier company Precision Power and the "PPI" series amplifiers had an optional freon cooling system that could be attached to them.

I would never use a car amp without at least one cooling fan.

The ones without fans would be great in the winter but during the summer they would shut off every half hour.
