Where is the dislike button, dammit?![/QUOT
My brother tends to take most of his selfies in bathroom and a couple were in public ones too, puts em up on fb too. I find it distasteful,:tmi: but I am sure he is just being cheeky. Like when he would crack my bedroom door just to close a fart in my room. There were a lot of dents in that door... LMFAO

Well it's a pleasant day here in the Southland ...no rain, no snow, (lol)
And plenty of sunshine..true, its late fall, but it's a rather pleasant 65° and no wind today, and same predicted for the rest of the week...

Actually wish it would rain, might help turn things green around here again..
P.S.
You couldn't pay me enough live in a state where it snows, especially Ohio, lol

I am in a warm area as well. It is 80F now.

Cold hurts! It hurts to even think about cold and wet...

My husband is from Upstate NY and when I asked about moving there (so beautiful in that area when I visited in the summer), he said "You would die."

I was at a truck stop outside Columbus OH getting fuel..walked inside to pay for it and noticed a whole bunch of people were dressed in black..
Made the mistake of asking one of them if they just attended a funeral... Dude blew up screaming we are Amish, like that means something to me ..I said so
you people believe wearing black will get you into heaven somehow?
He looked like he wanted to take a swing at me but didn't..all of them stormed out into the falling snow..even the little kids wore black..a strange sight indeed at 3 in the morning in a snowstorm.... Lol

I think the Amish have a rule about violence, and are not permitted to do, or wear, or use, just about anything that the rest of us "English" do. If they break the rules, they risk being excommunicated and being shunned by their people. I am sure that many have some pent up anger, maybe in time a poor Amish will explode and open up a real can o' whoopass on someone who makes smart remarks about their faith. Then they will get the boot for it. Who knows?

I am athiest, but wouldn't ask such a question to a faithful person. But then again I know a couple things about many faiths. lol

Sorry you had to find out that way. lol Those types of hardcore faithful probably prefer not to speak to many "Outsiders" unless they are conducting business of some sort. Some might even ignore you and walk away. :teehee: That guy probably was already having a hell of a day. A :bomb: waiting to go off.

I could never live in a place where rain and snow weren't part of the climate. Seems highly boring to me. I prefer a little excitement in the weather.

That's PA for the Amish, and some parts of Appalachia. Grew up attending Summer Bible school lessons for two weeks each Summer for Mennonite faith, until I turned 18. We often helped our Amish 'cousins' with farm tasks as 'good little Mennonite children' to "show respect to our spiritual elders'. Helped with a barn raising near Harrisonburg, VA one week, helped work the forge for an Amish blacksmith the next year. Electric to the Amish is a luxury offered via the advocate (Satan), it's not living in honor of God.

Not part of any religion now, myself. I prefer simply being a spiritual human animal which accepts science but is aware there is still some it cannot define, explain, ... yet.

Yeah the Utah incest bunch are the Mormons... or otherwise known as the something Latter Day Saints or something like that... bunch of freaks.... And I'm saying that in the nicest way possible because not all mormons or whatever believe that way.

Raised Presbyterian in my early years...

I got into trouble in Sunday school for repeatedly questioning the scripture, and finding much illogical. My poor mom.. That shenanigans started when I was 4 or 5.

I say that I am athiest, only because I worship no particular God or human type being that watches, governs, rules or makes decisions in our paths in life at all.
However it is not all science for me. There is definitely a connection to all things here and everywhere...

Dark matter could be fairy dust for all we know, and there is much that just can not and will not be explained by science. I have witnessed much that can not be explained by science or any religion that I know of.

My belief is way to deep to describe ATM. lol

One thing I attempt to stick by, is to treat others as I would like to be treated. I will never call them silly or obtuse, even if they are trying too hard to get me to join their faith, and especially to attend their services and donate money. It doesn't feel right and never will to me.

I don't follow. I will find my way...

Might go somewhere where there is electric and work, do videos. There has been some evolving over the years since I went and helped. Some sects use electric, some don't. I recall the joke around our area back then was Mennonites always drove black cars, wore 'working blues' & 'plain jane' dresses. The Amish of then rode in black horse drawn handsomes, wore homemade, hand me down clothes, of course some of the Mennonites did as well. Been years though for me being 'around' that world. Don't be mistaken either, it is a different world.

At one time I was being groomed as a 'brother'. I went and served in the military. That broke my Mennonite oath and vow to God, I was to be fully pacifist and not ever serve in the military. Everyone still welcomed me, still shared fellowship, except when the alter was brought out. I had to leave the room where the alter was displayed. I'm not clean enough by my broken oath to be in the presence of God, the alter. To be a 'brother' is to genuinely belong fully to your Mennonite church, you can then be a missionary, go to seminary for being a priest, or being a helper/teacher in the church.

Wow! Sounds kind of familiar. * chuckles * I too kind of now lean toward atheism, yet to me that isn't a religion as some seem keen to make it out to be. Also started asking questions about scriptures. The Mennonite 'father' told me one day, "I don't know but you keep asking, you might find out. One thing I do know is I cannot say you're being blasphemous, no, God made you what you are, he made you ask." That was the hardest answer he ever gave a six year old boy, I reckon.

Like The Golden Rule as well. :) I might 'entertain' or 'research' what you're doing just to see if it makes sense to me. Do not expect though I'll come join your herd or drink your kool aid ( pardon the Jonestown reference ). Like Camus says, 'walk beside me and be my friend'. :)

I occasionally saw some Mennonites in Englewood, TN when I went to town ( had to be informed that they were not Amish. They were of the variety that were in horse drawn carriages, not all wore black. They seemed less strict than the Amish I have only heard about and actually waved and smiled sometimes when my young daughter waved. lol

I thought the children cute and so well behaved. I actually threatened to send my daughter to work with them when she was being a total brat and didn't even want to do her reading homework. hehe

It is true that I follow no faith at all. I can not completely agree with any human I have ever met. Athiesm as a faith or fellowship of any kind rubs me the wrong way. Anyone who preaches their thing for a following seems to have an ulterior motive that smells like just another kind of bullshit way to gain something besides enlightenment, which I am also in no hurry to attain. There are so many atheists that are very rude and disrespectful to any other type of believer to the point that I really can't see the point besides their huge egos and feelings of superiority. Sound familiar? It is like extremists of any faith, "If you don't follow and believe all our rules, you are wrong, stupid, or bad!" LMFAO

I am content in knowing that I don't know, and probably never will. We are alive, nature and technology are beautiful and ugly, There is no positive without the negative and it is a beautiful thing. I just wan't to enjoy my life while I can, while doing the least harm to anyone or anything else, and helping when I can.

So tired now ... :goodnight:

You're crazy!

I love SNOW!! :bliss:
I'll trade ya! We've had it on and off for weeks

The following not related to hucks post I'm just not awake yet
I lived near a large community of Amish for ten years. They for the most part are very friendly and willing to answer questions about their lifestyle, unless they're approached rudely (surprise, I know. You mean they're just people? )

The communities vary widely in how strict they are and what they will and won't use from the modern world. Some will use gas powered generators and power tools, some will not use anything powered by anything other than their own hands and animals. Some places do have inbred children because the communities are getting smaller, some believe incest is a terrible sin.

Perhaps educating yourself about ANY group of people before spouting off about how terrible they are could get you a lot farther in life. Then again, you have shown time and time again that your opinion is the only correct opinion and I don't know why I'm bothering

Well, that would fix the brat. :) The Mennonite have an almost seductive method of 'recruiting'. They very much prefer to be given children. Then, children are taught about how "Jesus" came to the "brothers" on the shores, fishing. "Jesus" says to them, "follow me, I'll make you fishers of men." That is the foundation of the Mennonite, 'fishers of men'.

Children get taught the parables regarding 'two brothers together can move a mountain', 'with many grapes the vineyard master creates a fine bottle of wine'. It is taught this is the way of God, unifying people to a cause. I recall we learned some basic German as children, the goal being we'd return to Germany as adults to study with the ones even more elder than the Amish here.

Now, as an adult with hindsight, memories of time in their world seem interestingly odd. Hope you slept well. I was up too late from a spasming back. Finally did enjoy about four to six hours of 'power' sleeping. Finding this 'getting old' crap isn't as worthy as the adults made it seem when we were kids. :)
