Now I know more about chicken than I ever wanted to. Factory farming turns me off, but I realize the need for it. The population is too large and people eat much more meat than they did in say the 1880’s.

To give you the truth of it, factory farming of chicken is not so much of a necessity as the big corporations running them may lead you to believe. Families can keep their own modest sized free range flocks with a little guidance. You wind up with much better tasting chicken, healthier chicken, better living conditions for the chicken and people too.

Eggs can be sold, or bartered as well as the chicken itself. It genuinely doesn't take much in the way of keeping such a modest flock. You might want to buy 100 lbs bags of cracked corn feed to toss out every now and then to help them along, or some feeders in their coupe. And that crack corn is so damn expensive, last we bought was $12 for 100 lbs.

My aunt used to run grow houses for chicken plants. I think recently her mortgage was paid off, she's stopped raising chickens. Think my cousin runs some cattle and maybe some sheep, not sure on the sheep, but the cattle for sure. He takes care of his mom & the farm like his dad wanted.

I just read something about peak oil and culture reverting to 1880’s tech on Patheos Pagan.

Peak oil happened about ten years ago although no one wants to admit to that. Why do you think they started forcing stuff into the ground to bring up gas, oil if it can be found? It is a process they call fracking and it further destroys the Earth. We had a septic line in our bottom move three feet and split due we figure in large part to some local fracking. I'm hoping we'll have found a new home for ourselves before time comes to go fixing that. Because it'll not only involve the line but the tank as well.

Going back to 1880's? Oh well, that's not so terrible. We can manage. :) Went ten days without electricity save for four hours a day to keep the fridge/freezer safe. Was not an issue really. Sure, no movies, computers but what the hey we survived and will again. And I've learned a few ways to refrigerate without electric since then, as well canning is always an option.

I got Foxfire books, teaches me all kinds of good Appalachian living back from 1880's and earlier. They can at least point me in the right direction. The learning will be the doing, which isn't much of anything really if you keep your mind to you. Ha! Fooled it, my mind done ran off and I'm fine without it. :)

Sheesh, I mixed you up with Crom, I think. Or somebody on VU that reads the bleedin’ Telegraph! :teehee:

Probably not, meaning you didn't mix us up. :) I was just interjecting, sorry.

Let’s hope they don’t eat people.

Um, sorry again. Rats, any rats will indeed eat people. Pigs will too. Rats will also eat feed stores, grain stores set aside by people. They also carry disease, or facilitate it being carried as a vehicle for the fleas carrying it. Bears eat people, pythons will eat people. Sharks generally don't want to eat people but will. Gators can eat people. Ravens can eat people, "lions, tigers, bandits oh my!" :)

People in general need to give critters reason for them to be eaten. Have to consider though, people eat people.

"If I were to tell you our sun could blow up any second of the day, would you be scared?"

I don't get afraid of too much despite being a pussy when it comes to not watching horror movies. Then, I also watched a lot of the classic horror movies as a child. My mom was amazing like that. "You need to learn about this. Watch this movie, see the guy there die. Look at this other movie. See? He didn't really die did he? It's all made up."

Check out Patheos Pagan, you might like it. The blog I was reading was by John Beckett. It’s a pretty cool site for hearing about stuff in the community.

I totally agree about modest farming. I’m buying meat and produce now through local small organic farms.

I like the idea of 1880’s tech, but imagine folks that hang out at the mall. They’d flip. My hubs would say “fuck ‘em” but that’s him! Lol

No, no, no ... you're all wrong lady. It's Lenny Bruce all the way, fuck Carlin. I mean really all he did was rehash what Bruce did right the first time. Not that I particularly dislike George Carlin, think he is a fucking comedic genius but you have to think more long term as well. :) *chuckles*

We watched Good Omens last night. It was hilarious, sad at the same time. I need to scoot along. So guess I'll, ...

I’ve learned to do the acting like you belong thing, except sometimes people judge you by color, and it’s a bit hard to fake that. Not to be too literal...but I used to send the hubs in when we stopped there. He bops into places with his devil may care charm better than I do! Lol

The rally felt rather subdued to me. Perhaps we waited too long to really accomplish anything. I’d like to think not, but it feels bleh.

Hey Cromwell, how’s it going?

Interesting to note. YouTube Television only has the $50 monthly package. They're basing their price on the "average" American household paying $1200 + a year for cable / satellite, working out to $107 monthly. Accordingly then they advertise to be saving this "average" household $600 yearly.

Here's where one learns how much so they fall between the cracks. Their price would not save us a thing, in fact it would be an expense of $600 yearly. They do offer unlimited space DVR, 6 accounts for 1 price though. Another offering is live local television, the only real reason of value to consider using their service.

A free service on Roku exists called StiRR. It offers at least one live local channel. Granted we don't have six accounts, all the local channels, or unlimited DVR. We might pay $72 yearly if we stick with using Prime, not sure we will or not. We make use of a lot of freely available content on Roku.

On through the cracks we go. We're moving from apartments the end of this month. We had been renting with help from H.U.D. Well it seems H.U.D thinks we can pay more. The reasoning we got involved with H.U.D is because we fall below the Federal Poverty Line. Sure, we can pay more. We don't even afford much in the way of entertainment. Average, us? We might do good to see a fourth of average.

There are also disabled and seniors being put out at the end of the month here. They have no way to pay more either. America, look at your social safety net. It fails. And know that we have paid in during our lives. Our families have paid in. She and I have both worked together and still come out lower yearly than expected. We though we had cleared $13,000 one year only to find we had done $10,000. Not exactly sure how that worked out as we're not frivolous.

I think both of us have accepted that falling through the cracks is our lot in life. We make do without a lot. What aggravates is seeing others likely in worse shape being tossed into the cracks. Much as I'm growing wary of falling between them myself, damn sure sick and tired of seeing those worse off fall through. Then, I have to consider what I can do. Keep racking my mind but coming up short. It leads to feeling helpless, obsolete, hopeless.

So yes, now everyone can know my foul mood from falling through the cracks. Please do offer platitudes such as "life is a bitch, go die in a ditch". Also I welcome anyone to suggest I get a job. That's always quite helpful advice. Care to locate me something to do, that is decent paying, local as in within 30 miles? Got something at least 200 others have not seen posted? I take fits of looking and not looking. It can be depressing to look, or depressing to not look. So yay, I'm fucked either way.

I’m so sorry to hear of all your problems you’re facing right now.

My husband, kids, and I got evicted from our apartment because I had to stay in the hospital for a month and my husband couldn’t afford our bills. We had to move in with my in-laws and save up for a place all over again with the fear of not getting a place with an eviction. So I know where you’re coming from. The system is fucked up. Hope everything turns around for you!

Yeah that's our next step as it seems. We had kind of hoped to have gotten in line to go get a low rate mortgage locked in from the Agriculture dept, or FHA. There's a windfall she has coming due from some employee stock options. That would have been the down payment.

Well the company is jerking her around about getting that released, and it seems likely it'll come due next year, instead of this year when it was allegedly supposed to be due. I'm about peeved enough to think Nitro, WV doesn't exist so I can avoid thinking terrible about the folks in the corporate office there.

So, we decided we'd wait two years here in hopes that would be coming in. We could save money being here even needing to pay rent. That won't happen though now in part because they've jerked her around, in part because H.U.D seems to be lovely too.

What helps matters is her dad knows that if he or my wife ask me to do anything, I'm up, ready to go do, done by the time get around to seeing I do it. Her dad has never once hinted that I'm freeloading off her. We did discuss this recently, me and him. He told me there was no doubt I didn't do that. He also told me the other SIL on the other hand, ...well.

I would be working if I could find it. Funny thing being I tried for disability which one might think I am actually a candidate for having. Filed, went on to arbitration hearing. They denied disability yet give me a whole slew of listed restrictions and then said I could find janitorial work in our area. They defined our area as WV and the eight surrounding states. Go look and see the janitorial listings once. Can almost bet you that at least 200 are in line ahead of anyone.

I'm also looking into other jobs. It comes to the same results. Point blank, it's rough as hell for everyone. "Oh but we've the greatest economy in years!" *coughs, tries not to puke*

If we can get a small modest, $30,000 - $50,000 homestead with maybe five acres we'd be glad. I could manage doing some farming, tend it with some old school husbandry meeting new ways of working smart that are not shortcuts but help one person manage. We might go off grid even. Her grandfather told us a good house could be built for around $25,000. Looking over some of the structures he's built I can believe that.

Here that is not much for a place either. It's not that we want a castle costing millions. Hell no. We can only sleep in one bed anyway. I'm sorry too hearing of what y'all are facing. Damn, we're such a bunch of crack fallers. *chuckles*

People are Stupit!
Just noticed a clickbait thing on a news page.
Titled: Girl found a 700 year old penny.
Has a pic of a girl with a pic of a penny beside her that says United States of America on it...

I wonder why BCF does not carry Cabbage or Turnip flavorings?

LOL They prolly have it somewhere online, though. For some home style type cabbage soup. George Carlin did a good routine about food and the misnomers applied to it.

Traumatic Trump Turnip tariffs?

Say that 3 times fast :)

I’ve managed to not try turnips so far. Not that I bear a grudge against them, I just don’t know how you cook them or what to make with them.

I’d rather have Trump tariff the turnip sales than our vape gear or nic! Why not a Turnip Flavor ban? Lol

Either or all. LOL
I was thinking more about Turnip Tariffs though.

Why is there no turnip ejuice?

How’s about squeezing some turnips and adding that to VG/PG?

Let’s just hope Trump forgets he wanted flavor bans, or decides vapers are the voters he doesn’t want to lose.

Did you see the Vape Meet video about Canada taxing vape products?
