I don't think white vinegar or grain alcohol is going to hurt anything. In fact, some flavorings contain alcohol.
No, probably not. I'm not sure I want to inhale either of them. I've bought enough ass-juice, don't need to make my own.

Several posts from this thread were moved, Comments are always welcome but the thread doesn't need to be a place for some members to completely derail it and argue, bring in politics Etc. You guys know we have areas to do that all you want, not in a new members thread.
In case you want to continue your arguments and debates you can pick it back up here > http://vapingunderground.com/threads/troll-off-topic-posts.187338/

Building is a better option, but not everybody wants to. Nothing wrong with using prebuilt if that's what people want.

Making DIY juice is stupid easy and cheaper than vendor juice too but lots of people don't want to do it. Posts like the above are like the posts from the DIY's in the juice forum telling everyone to just make their own.

Couldn't agree more, I do make my own coils, and have for years, but my wife still likes using pre-made coils, not everyone wants to build their own coils (or can't), and this isn't what the thread is about, so why people got to try and push for something else?

As you said, no one can start a thread about premade juice, without tons of people jumping in saying to do DIY, again not everyone wants to DIY, I tried it, and was just a PITA for me, and never made anything decent, so wasn't worth the time and hassle for me, but I don't go about preaching not to do it though.

Let people vape how they want, as long as it is safe, not helping them when leading them on a different path than what they want.

Just my 2 cents :)

Okay. But you do realize that every single person that has drank grain alcohol has had alcohol in their lungs. That's what a breathalizer measures. It seems logical that a drunk person would inhale(actually, exhale) much much more alcohol than a person vaping on a coil with a bit of residue. I've never heard of lung problems in an alcoholic.

LOL. Is that a scientific observation?

It is. Small amounts of inhaled Alcohol, especially that which comes from "residue" left from cleaning a coil, won't hurt anyone.

http://themedicinejournal.com/articles/the-truth-behind-vaporizing-and-inhaling-alcohol/

"
While the party-fueled vaporization and inhalation of alcohol is extremely dangerous, there are some real medical benefits when done appropriately. In 1954, Dr.’s Aldo Luisada, Morton Goldmann and Ruth Weyl, used this as a method for treating pulmonary edema, resistant to all other forms of therapy.

The fluid in the lungs, associated with pulmonary edema, contain blood elements that get churned into a froth by the act of breathing. This leaves foam-like bubbles that make it extremely difficult to diffuse oxygen through the capillary beds. By bubbling oxygen through a 50% ethyl alcohol solution, the frothy bubbles collapse making it easier to breath. It’s thought the alcohol alters the surface tension of the bubbles, causing the collapse. The resulting sputum is also more liquid and is much easier to expel from the lungs.

Another well accepted treatment using alcohol inhalation, is in the prevention of alcohol withdrawals post-surgery. As with any physically addictive substance, when you stop using, withdrawals occur. Known as Alcohol Withdrawal Syndrome (AWS), the symptoms can be deadly. In 1908, when hospitalization was uncommon, the mortality rate of AWS was around 37%. Currently, the mortality rate for patients in a hospital is around 6.6%. Since even those addicted to alcohol sometimes need surgery, doctors are left with the problem of preventing AWS while they’re recovering.

Medications, known as benzodiazepines, are commonly used. The intravenous infusion of ethanol is also sometimes administered. The inhalation of alcohol is becoming widely accepted. Some doctors even prefer it, claiming it’s easier to control than ethanol infusion. They also cite the added benefit of increased oxygen levels post-surgery, because oxygen is bubbled through the alcohol.

Whether used for the treatment of pulmonary edema, or AWS, doctors constantly monitor the amount of alcohol inhaled. They also continually monitor the blood alcohol levels, keeping them in a range that is high enough to get the results they want, while low enough not to cause any unwanted problems. "

No one in this thread is demanding or telling them not to, just telling them our own experiences and opinions. But it seems that some get all butt hurt when they don't agree with them and go off on a tirade toddler tantrum when others don't agree.

Stop throwing away burnt coils.

Smart. I remember as some do back when we would clean our atomizers regularly, and even clean our cartomizers. Boiling, pressure rinsing, slinging them dry, on and on. We did what we had to do to vape (even drying them on the ceiling fan). Nothin' wrong with it, but pretty soon the coil gunk won't go away and the cotton used now just becomes burnt. You just can't do a damn thing with it once the cotton burns. Until it don't work for you no more, I say go for it. It does work better for silica wicks than for cotton wicks. With silica we would even do a 'dry burn' of the coil and wick until clean.

As long as alcohol residue is dried good enough that you can stand to vape it, there ain't enough alcohol or denaturing agents to ever cause any harm (remember, we used to smoke cigarettes!). The only way alcohol of any type could ever cause a problem would be if that alcohol was your sole juice!

Actually, the best way I found to dry stuff like this is to use a hair dryer. Put your atties to be dried in a metal pan, and aim the hair dryer straight at them from about 8 to 10 inches away, put on high heat and high air. Leave them that way for about 15 to 20 minutes and they will be dry. They will be very hot, so don't just grab them with your fingers right away. Make sure not to use any plastic container since the hair dryer can get things very hot; no fires please.

I have personally tried the OP's method many, many moon's ago.

Once the offending coil meet's the superheated microwave water, you get lots and lots of very interesting bubbles .

The end results resulted in my going to RBAs to save money.

You don't remember vids of people slinging cartomizers around on a string to dry them out?

Actually when I used to use prebuilt coils I soaked them in 91% Isopropyl alcohol Used a syringe to squirt the alcohol thru the openings and then put them on a paper towell to dry for at least 24 hours.

They used to also do this to their cartos to get more e-liquid into them. Youd fill up the carto, then sling it around with a string, then fill it up more, etc. lol those were the days

Cleaning factory coils is an exercise in futility, cotton breaks down and degrades. I tried this when I first started Vaping, watched tons of YouTube's on cleaning factory coils, tried countless different methods all ended up with shitty coils.

Just do yourself a favor, buy a decent dedicated RTA and learn how to build. Better flavor and options with building your own. Wrapping wire around a jig or screwdriver isn't rocket science, it's pretty damn easy.
I know i have 2 of them i also have 2 tanks and 1 RDA

I know its easy friend asked how do i clean prebuilt coils so decided to show and share with other in case they have pre builts

How do you immediately dry it?
Firstly i get a paper towl then a que tip with cotton rub little, after, i prefer to use a hair dryer. and if im to lazy have a fan running for about an hour

EDIT: heard of people also putting juice of coil and manually drying the water off it.

Buy a RTA/RDA if you want to not spend $$ on coils

trying to revive a $2 coil is a waste of time and effort, you might get an extra day before it tastes like you're vaping cardboard
Not if your replacing them as much as I am. For some reason my coils are not lasting out the day!

Thank you yes!

i would also love to remind people, of course, RBA RTA coils will save you money in the end

im not telling people to get a regular coil for their sub omh because you can magically clean it everytime is close to shitting on you.
I'm trying to explain if you did make the decision to buy a sub ohm tank with coils, that you can add an extra week or two to the burnt coil by simply cleaning it. But one day it'll be forever gone burnt and unfixable to clarify since everyone's freaking out over what people purchase. It's all on preference guys no need to start issues here.

Alcohol is not Alcohol its not just all the same..
Grain alcohol does not equal Isopropyl Alcohol
Nope they are different and 91% isopropyl seems to evaporate away Better than grain alcohol does.
Plus it is lots cheaper.
I still use isopropyl to clean out squonk bottles and atomizers.
It will remove any plastic taste from the squonk bottles as long as you let it dry or a day.
It will also clean out the taste and smell from juice bottles for reuse.

ALWAYS let it air dry for 24 hours to be sure it is evaporated away.

with all that said I vape nothing now with factory coils.
Either RDA, RTA or RBA. Much better flavor and performance and LOTS cheaper.

Good afternoon, I've been vaping for around a year to a year and a half. And ill tell you what. I've been through 15 coils. I would say once a month i would have to purchase a $5-$10 coil from the shop. In otherwords i paid $75-150 a year for coils. If you do this, you stopped at the right place. I will now explain how i dont replace my coils for up to 6 months of using them.

Firstly take care of your coils, Always vape at recommended wattage. and always have a full to 3/4 of a tank. Never try to hotbox the shit out of something. (Hitting in 20 times in a minute isnt really good for the coil it gets kinda dry and burnt)

i can go all day on how to take care of coils. Trust me i learned a lot.

Now you happen to f*** up your coil before seeing this thread... now what? go buy a $10 coil. NOPE!

I'll explain how to fix the burnt taste from your ecig/coil and how to fix that!

Firstly take out the coil, now grab a small container and put just enough water for your coil to go into. Now heat the water in microwave (you can also use a pan). carefully take the container of hot water and simply drop your sub omh coil into the water and dump water and put cold water in it to cool down the coil. pick up the coil and spray it out a lot of burnt shit and ejuice should fall out. Now if that doesnt happen kept repeating til it does

The VERY BEST option is like a survivalist. If you have torn or blue jeans with holes take the shredded blue jean material, soak strands in e-juice and use it for wicking. Coils can be made from coat hanger wire. Works awesome!

Use MEK for cleaning, or acetone. LOL DO NOT USE dangerous substances for cleaning prebuilts. Water works great with a cotton swab, if you can get one in there, otherwise stranded cotton does well.
LOL... also remember when you could get Carbon tetrachloride at the hardware store? It was the best dang cleaner known for taking any crud out of things like carburetors on snowmobiles.... Used it all the time.... probably why I'm so goofy now! I bet it would make coils shine like new.... hmmm

Idk I think I'm with r055co on the whole futile efforts. Never did the whole subohm coil thing but I remember trying to make the high resistance pen coils last longer. They were every bit as expensive as subohm coils, $13 for a 5pk and trying to change juice flavors dicked them up in a hurry. Got some thin 1.5mm silica wick or whatever the hell it was, taped the end super tight with plumbing tape to feed it through the tiny ass 2.4 ohm coil. Only did that a few times before I said fuck it and moved to rta's.

Granted an rta/rda isn't as simple as swapping a factory subohm coil but compared to threading silica through those stupid small coils it's a godsend. lol

So soaking my old coils in Dawn dish soap then rinsing after a day and half with water. Then air drying for another day.....probably a bad idea?! Idk I'm relatively new to vaping...I still have plenty of new coils but I wanted to try and get more out of the coils I've used up. I use a Halo Reactor Mega and bought 4 batteries and 2 tanks along with 10 extra karthan coils. I wanna quit smoking....I'm ok with a little work. I'm gonna assume I should toss my Dawn dish soap soaked coils away...(I really wasn't sure how to clean them...many websites say to not even try.) I haven't touched them since. I don't want to go into the full rebuild set up. But I don't see why everything these days must be thrown away... Maybe... I'm just old...lol. I'm sure I'mma go ahead and use one or all of those "Dawn" coils....it is a food grade cleanser......it's also pretty cheap and goes away with water.....a month of air drying should be fine. If I die from it I'll make sure to post :).

Dawn a really, really bad idea. As I've stated before cleaning old factory coils is an exercise in futility. Cotton breaks down, it's shot. Just get an RTA and build, wrapping wire around a jig (or screwdriver) then poking cotton through it isn't rocket science. All it takes is a bit of practice.

Magikal, Congrats on quitting smoking and welcome to the world of vaping. This forum will be a great place for you to gain info and support with it's many knowledgeable and friendly members. That said, I started much the same way you have with store bought coils (most all of us did to be candid) and wasn't sure I wanted to try rebuilding. Sounds kind of daunting when you say it.... Rebuilding.... but I finally gave in due to the high cost of coil replacements. Through the many posts on this site I decided to try it out and what I learned was, It's easier than I imagined. You stated that you don't mind a little work and obviously if you're willing to attempt "cleaning with dawn and air dry for a month" then you're in for a treat. Get yourself a good single coil RDTA or RTA and then buy a few pre-made coils (2 or 3 in a pack and I like .32 - .36 ohm) and some cotton. The coils last literally forever and with the new cotton that has the shoe-string ends they're easy to install and cheap by the package... (like $6 for a years supply) It's so easy that you'll be like I was... .and wondered what took me so long to wake up!! haha Now I have about a dozen tanks and many more RDA's using squonks and all manner of devices just because I got hooked on it... but I STILL love the first single coil rebuildable tanks and use them every day. I have the Pharaoh which I love and is one of the easiest to re-wick and the Zeus SINGLE coil that I also love but it's a little tricker to wick... (not that tricky but for a first time unit it might try your patience) Both give GREAT flavor and are easy to wick and use. The flavor will be way better than your store bought tank coils and you can change the cotton in less than 5 mins. The coil stays and you just insert new cotton. Way less time than cleaning your store bought coils and no soap taste!! Good luck.

i get 175 hours of heavy use from a coil that costs $2.40.
the actual cost isn't much.
i did try cleaning coils but had no luck.
now, i just toss them n forget about it.

I'm on with my factory coils...I just not getting enough work so I thought I'd try to reuse some...I've never "burnt" a coil. I use relatively low wattage (no higher then 20) and though I tend to puff a few times to build up vape in my mouth then Inhale it's an entirely different experience from smoking...I direct inhale cigarettes ....ultralights....but always did the heavier ones. Have yet to be able to just breath it in instead of "french inhale" lol.

I figure my old coils are lost and I've got a few extras to keep going but damnit I just wanna vape like I've always smoked! Aaaannnnndddd not have to spend out the wazzoo!!! Lol. I could get into vaping as a hobby...I've read up on all the fancy coils and how to make em lol. Idk I'd rather buy premade or I'd go nuts just trying to perfect a Clapton...let alone any others...don't make enough to justify making vaping a hobby...I just need it to shit can cigarettes....be 40yrs old next month...28 years of cigarettes....I wish they never existed....just wanna be in control as much as possible I guess....any advice there is appreciated.

You can buy premade coils.
Then all you have to do is screw them down once every few months then install and change the wick every week to two weeks.

I didn't want to hear that answer at first either but buying four packs of coils every one to two weeks for $12 a pack was getting out of hand.

There are plenty of youtube videos on how to wick an RTA (rebuildable tank atomizer)

There is also a coil called an RBA Coil that you can get for some but not all of the popular tanks (the Smok Baby Beast comes to mind) and the coil itself is rebuildable.
Something like that would be good so you can still buy regular coils for your tank while you get the hang of it.

I used to save the old coils after I was done in the last tank I used (The Crown V1) so I counted a huge bag of them one day then realized I just spent over $150 on coils in less than four months.

A $10 100ft roll of wire and $10 bag of cotton will last multiple years.

Of coarse not. Never said that they are the same.
Propanol butanol methanol ethanol ect ect...... Are all different, all poison, and all have low boiling points and fast rates of evaporation. Isopropyl alcohol can be used just fine. It's used to clean open wounds. Did you know the cure for methanol poisoning is ethanol? Just saying isopropyl alcohol is safe as long as you don't put flavors and nic in it then try to vape it.

<joking>Damn, too late!</joking>

some probably use it on this forum like
Rayon users.

I could resemble that remark but don't, except for occasionally using rayon. Careful don't make me take the crayons away. :p Silly wax eaters always saying they can show us how to make rainbows, bah!

I'll have to try this out. I just ran out of juice in my tank (didn't realize, stupid Nord) and took 2 nasty burnt hits
