Yep, I used to do this regularly when we went to visit the farm. She had a huge garden. But the only things I specifically remember from the garden were the green beans and the peas. We would pick the pea pods and eat them right out there in the garden, they were amazingly sweet.

Precisely why I don't plant peas anymore. I would sit out in the garden and eat them all fresh, like candy. None made it back to the house. Not one.

I remember so many of the things on the previous page, and still HAVE a lot of them, including the needle threader, a seam-ripper, marking chalk, and the tomato pincushion with the little strawberry full of sand to sharpen your needles with. I am so old. I don't remember Charles Chips, but I remember the Frito Bandito, and even the song he sang. Some stuff is actually younger than me, though. Like Snack Pack pudding. I bought that as an adult to take in my lunch to work. Maybe it was around when I was a kid, but if so, mom never bought it. Five kids, you know. ;)

So many memories. The Silly Putty was one of my favorite things. I'd be making backward copies of all the comics in the Sunday paper, for whatever good THAT was. Then smoosh it all up and start over, until the putty got black from the ink, then I'd ask for another egg full. Some of my other favorites were my Easy Bake Oven (bake a cake with a light bulb!) and the Mr. Pretzel maker (same idea, bake pretzels with a light bulb). I was destined to become a chef. My parents were so patient with me. :teehee:

Well, which was it? The crows or Tom and Jerry? I'm confused now.

The paper food stamp coupons, unfortunately I remember them like it was yesterday. Food only, though, no dog or cat food, no alcohol, no cigarettes. But lots of Cheetos and pop. We kids thought it was pretty cool to get so much junk food "for free" that we could never afford before. (We didn't know how it all worked at the time...)

I can remember the good ol days of my childhood summer vacations from school. They included playing in the areas of the old rock quarry that were no longer mined, and nature was rapidly taking over. The endless days of fishing off our pier kept the freezer full, after filling our guts with bluegill fish the size of a man's hand. Riding my bike down unknown roads to look for the next adventure.

Autumn brought on a different type of activity. In Wisconsin, we had apple trees all over the place. That meant the fruit was going to go to waste, because nobody could do anything with all of it. So... we threw it at each other. Nice slimy rotten apples being tossed through the air, and splat. Most of the time, we missed our targets. I got good at headshots.

Being Gen X, we would get yelled at for coming in the house dirty, but not for how we got that way. I didn't care. Everyone in my age range were boys, and I wasn't going to let that cause me to get bored. Dirt washes off, but the memory of the fun lasts a lifetime.

I hated saddle shoes, they felt so clunky. I went to a Catholic grade school, however, and those awful shoes were part of the uniform. But in my "off" time, I wore my Mary Janes (the girl in the front is wearing those). Black patent leather Mary Janes. Wow.

I remember being in kindergarten, and I even remember the teacher's name (Miss Brown), and I remember her lining us up to go outside for recess, and she always referenced "Do Bees" and "Don't Bees" (complete with buzzing sounds, LOL!) when we did something right or wrong, but I never remember taking naps. Maybe because I was asleep! But I really don't remember her ever telling us to lie down and take a nap. I'm sure was too old for naps by then, anyway, ROFL!

I am sure a great many of us got burns like this from the old cigarette lighters that cars used to come equipped with. Since so much of the population no longer smokes, such lighters are a thing of the past, and the port is just a place to plug up electronic accesories. Most new vehicles only have USB ports now.

You know, I never had a Monkees lunch box, but I watched that show religiously when it first ran. My dirty little secret is I STILL watch that stupid show every day (it's on AXS TV). I still love the music, but the plot lines are pretty thin, LOL!

Wow! Working backward...

DooDads! Chex Mix in a box. I loved that.

There's no more stencils? When did those go extinct?

TV dinners. That EXACT ONE was my favorite.

I made paper chains every Christmas with colored construction paper.

And I can't tell you how many goldfish I won at the fairs and carnivals. It was the high point of my day!

There are no more fire drills at school? What happens if there's a fire?

Shoeless dances? Sock-hops. You couldn't wear your shoes because they were always held in the gym.

I always LOOKED for four-leaf clovers. I only ever FOUND one.

A&W used to bring our dinner to the car on a window tray, complete with frosty GLASS mugs of root beer.

Hula hoops! Mine was a Shoop-shoop Hula Hoop (it had beads inside). My record was 600 shoops.

When I was a kid, we lived where there were no street lights, but mom kicked us out of the house in the morning and said to be home by dark. And we always were.

I never caught tadpoles (that was a boy thing), but I oohed and aahed when my brothers came back with some.

Yes, name bracelet. I had one, too, but mine didn't have a stone on it.

Switchblade comb! I didn't have one, but Rich said he did. Actually, he said he saw them for sale on Temu recently, the same exact comb in that same little yellow box. There's nothing new under the sun, they say.

Chinese finger cuffs - I forget what they were called, but yeah, lots of experience. Remember, Data sent a big box of them to the Ferengis one time. I would have loved to have seen that!

And last but not least, I shouldn't know what this is, but I remember seeing them when I was a kid. It was a urinal, when guys used to stand around in a circle to pee. ;)

I think I must be getting pretty old... I remember all of these things except the pop-out comb.

Pretty sure that one is actually a sink. You can even still find ones like that in use, primarily in the restrooms of old factories. Though there are stories of people peeing in these sinks, particularly when they were common in ballparks and stadiums. The multi-person urinals were typically troughs.

A sink? When I saw it, I remembered seeing them, and I asked Rich if it was a urinal (that's what I was thinking it was) and he said yes. So I blame him for bad information. ;) I do remember seeing them, though. And I'm glad to know that places still hold fire drills. I mean, that seems like a pretty basic precaution, doesn't it?
