In western Europe, Italian is my second favorite cuisine to French. Germany, Switzerland, and northwards, have soggy dumplings and bland meats. England has mushy peas and bland everything. Eastern Europe, been to Czech Republic, Hungary and Austria, more soggy dumplings and bland meats, though Prague had good continental food in restaurants (and cheap!!). Scandinavia might be better, dunno, haven't been there.

Spain and Portugal are pretty good too, with lots of fresh produce and seafood, but after France, I'll take Italy any day, with happy food: pasta, pizza, Tuscan steak, ice cream.

I'll concede that I'm way too fond of having opinions, and of expressing them. Sorry.
and a bucket! fummy enough there have been somany english chefs that have been voted worlds best, just i could not find them lol portugal, spain and yugoslavia are good. i als ways insist on trying the countries traditional dish twice iwas so so sorry i did!!1

same as easiest job in the world would be an italian chef, no matter what you put on the plate all you can taste is 5 kilos of tomato! given they use that on everything they musy be crap chefs! its meant to give a little taste to a meal not drown it!
Ya know I do agree 100% buddy

Omygosh, you two have not had enough Italian food. Even though our grocery stores have row after row of jar tomato (marinara) sauce, that is only one of maybe 50 things you can put on pasta. Fresh herbs and olive oil. Rich Alfredo sauce. Mushroom and garlic saute. Shrimp and lemon butter. Chicken and peas. Cream cheese and peas with red pepper flakes. I could really go on and on. Pasta is a blank canvas, like bread, for other things to go onto.

Okay I read, very recently, but I don't remember which religion, but one of the religions wrote in their rules that you must not eat a part of an animal and then let it live. You know that had to be because people were doing that, cutting off a cutlet or a roast piece, maybe bandaging the wound (maybe not) and letting the animal go free.

My best friend from middle school until now, is from a big Italian family, second generation. Their parents were born here, the grandparents came here from Italy. I think she has a total of eight brothers and sisters. They all are among the most beautiful people you'll ever see, and very intelligent.

No, not the Catholics. I tried to look it up, can't find it now. Sometimes I wish that when I read something strange like that, or heard something unusual in a podcast, I had a file to bookmark it.

The Italians were never big on conquering and creating foreign colonies, and even now not much for corporate colonizing. Even Christopher Columbus worked for Spain, not his native Italy.

Judaism. They consider it a basic law binding on all humanity, given by God via Noah.
'Then God blessed Noah and his sons, saying to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth. The fear and dread of you will fall on all the beasts of the earth, and on all the birds in the sky, on every creature that moves along the ground, and on all the fish in the sea; they are given into your hands. Everything that lives and moves about will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything. But you must not eat meat that has its lifeblood still in it."' (Genesis, Ch. 9)

Also, they are not allowed or shouldn't eat anything unclean, only clean. Unclean would be lobster, shrimp, stuff like catfish anything that is bottom feed, pig, rabbit and more. They are able to eat clean salmon, tuna, bass, cow, lamb, chicken, deer and more.

May be an image of digital watch and text that says 'Does this watch remind you of anyone?''Does this watch remind you of anyone?'
Yup, still have my grandmothers watch. No need for batteries or sunlight to charge. Just wind and it works :) Don't wear it too often just enough to make sure it still works.
Here is hers

Thank you Freyja. I've been researching a lot since Walton made that comment about eating frogs legs so the frogs can't run away, looking for that again. I thought this: "...you must not eat meat that has its lifeblood still in it..." was about making sure to drain all of the blood out of meat, which everybody knows about, but apparently, in days of old (way old) before refrigeration, when you couldn't store meat, it was a very common practice to cut the leg off an animal, to eat now, then let the animal live to have more eaten another day.

Anyway, since researching more, I also found this:

But I still think the first time I read about it, before we had this discussion in this thread, it was about some other religion, not Judaism, Islam or Christianity. But given how common the practice probably was, it makes sense that it would have become prohibited in many faiths, and have been written into their dietary laws too. I have since found out that Muslim "halal" also prohibits it.

I've always understood a lot of that. Even now, a lot of shellfish is a filter for ocean pollution, taking it all in. But I have never understood about rabbits, commonly consumed in many parts of the world, plentiful little rascals the way they reproduce, but obviously there would have been diseases in days of old, that we don't know anything about anymore.

Hmm, interesting. That's a long distance, from near the top of the boot to near the ankle of the boot, but I've been thinking I have to recognize that not everyone is as much into food as I am, and they're lucky for that. Food as fuel, nothing more.

As I understand it, the dietary restrictions of any religion aren't about physical health so much as about self-discipline, compassion, and/or spiritual well-being.

true words even though from my past and my beliefs, religion is the largest falacy ever written and its a story of ficticious people doing impossile things to appease others that are weakand scared. nothing about it is true and it is the biggest criminal story in the world.
for those who believe i wish you well, just keep your toys to yourselves.

I think it's a combination of both spiritual values/compassion, and health, across all religions that have dietary laws.

For example, pigs eat shit, literally. Joel Salatin calls them "pigerators" because they nose through manure to find and eat undigested corn. Shellfish colonies near the shore are pollution filters. So I understand those things. And yes, definitely, not cutting the limb off a living animal, then letting it live, is about preventing animal suffering, about co-creating a Kingdom of God where that is not allowed. To prevent the animal dying they probably used a torch to cauterize the stump too. When I read Jewish dietary law it appears that even branding with an iron is not Kosher now, in contemporary times.

Which brings me back to wondering about rabbits. They're clean, vegetarian, and small enough to make a meal, without, in days of old, having to lop off something and leave it to live in suffering. Rabbits chew the cud, but they don't have split hooves, which is what puts them in the off limits category.

When I have asked Jewish friends questions about dietary law, they have all said, all of them, "we don't know why, but it's forbidden, so it's off limits".

When people cite things going on in the world today, and say "we were told about this in the book of Revelation", I don't argue with them. I let them have their beliefs, but I think those are stories that have been repeated among many peoples over many eons. Noah's flood story too. The Noah's Ark children's toys are, to me, a bit revolting actually.

Lately I'm pretty intrigued that the bible and many other ancient scriptures may actually be stories of alien contact. Paul Wallis, an Australian clergyman, has a very interesting YouTube channel all about it. Zechariah Sitchin was the first to suggest it, and like anybody with a good theory who dies, when they die the academic world rushes out to trash them. Sitchin may not have gotten every detail right, but he was probably the first to recognize the possibility that we were messed with by off planet entities.

i have been to a lot of countries but not for example russia. but iknow i can buy a ticket and go there. that is whats called a provable fact. in all the years of the so called book, there is not one shed of prove to it, the shroud if turin,,,total fake, noah arc...total rubbish. in 1964 the catholic church got rid of some of their saints as the priests themselves said there were toomany. church kicked out st christopher afer looking at his case. who the hell could speak to them about him! latest is that moses did not exist. yeard ago the pope was to take a world tour, the church for the firsttime permitted 3 doctors from outside the church to examine him. all said hes fine. next dat the pope admitted that the church should look at contreception! big mistakeas the next dathe died of heart failure? coincidence? yeah right. the bible was made up from a lot of books, the catholic church decided to get rid of a couple! at the time of their so called master only 1% of people could read or write. that alone is proof that the entire novel was written due to word of mouth. and yes there is not one person alive that can say theysaw anything! no proof, no facts pure heresay, congrats to the person who made it up!!
